Marcus Thomas (RB)

Marcus Thomas the d-lineman, meet Marcus Thomas the running back.

The Denver Broncos on Wednesday added RB Marcus Thomas to the roster.  Thomas was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft.  In just over 16 months, Thomas has had a whirlwind NFL career:

  • He was drafted in April and waived during final cuts by the Chargers.
  • He played in three games for the Detroit Lions last year before being waived in October.
  • The Dallas Cowboys added him to their practice squad at the end of the season
  • The Cleveland Browns signed him to a future contract in January and waived him in June.

That makes the Broncos his fifth NFL team.

Hailing from Texas El-Paso, Thomas enjoyed some success in college, finishing his career as the Miners’ fifth all-time leading rusher (2,615 yards) and third-leading scorer (26 rushing touchdowns) while racking up a school-record seven 100-yard games.

Another running back? They just signed a certain someone to a multi-million dollar deal. With Lamont Jordan temporarily missing time, Thomas’ addition seems just that – temporary. No word on who, if any, was cut or placed on I/R to make room for Thomas. (UPDATE: The Broncos released Ryan Torain to make room for Thomas, trading one AFC West 2008 fifth-round RB for another.) We’ll post the press release on the site when it’s available.

    can he do a backflip?

Maybe Jordan is the odd man out. Personally I’d like to keep Torain, Knowsho, Hillis, and Buck. And maybe keep a few on the practice roster… didnt Lamont sign a 1 year deal?

Nisse that hilarious! I dont no who he is but apparently the chargers the cowboys and the lions all dont see anything

They waived Torain today, and signed this guy. Too bad, I really liked Torain, but his body just won’t give him a break.

na his body gave him to many breaks

from what I was reading, Thomas had a strong pre-season with San Diego in 2008 but was the odd man out at the final cut.. he is roster filler right now.. but with what happened last season, they can never be too short of healthy bodies at RB

Marcus Thomas played in the same high school conference as my son. Thomas’ speed is very deceptive. If you gave him a step he was off to the races, and he has very soft hands out of the back field. He’s willing to go head on with any LB. I believe he rushed for 3500 yards his senior year of HS. Hope the Broncos use him well.
