Broncos Open Contract Talks with Knowshon Moreno

ProFootballTalk is reporting that the Denver Broncos and first-round draft pick Knowshon Moreno have begun contract negotiations.

Historically, the Broncos (like most NFL teams) don’t get their first-round draft picks signed until the eve or day of training camp. With two first-round picks to sign before camp breaks, the new regime is getting a head-start, although beginning talks early doesn’t necessarily guarantee a contract much sooner.

Last year’s first round draft pick, Ryan Clady, signed in the early morning hours of the first day of training camp. Clady’s contract entitled the offensive tackle to $14.75 million over six seasons, including $11.4M guaranteed. Expect Moreno, also the 12th pick, to rake in a bit more than that.

To date, seventh round pick C Blake Schlueter is the only 2009 Denver Broncos draft pick to sign with the club. Expect that to change – furiously – over the next few weeks.

    Just hoping that the bronco coaching staff still understands the
    O-line contracts is what matters most in Denver. Its all about the system and one cut, down hill running (Hills comes to mind).

    Granted we can use Hills in a number of different rolls, pay him less money and build Moreono to be some kind of Barry Sanders. Will this help the broncos win more Super Bowls, or drag us into the depths of the Lions?

    I say give Hills the big contract, who has proven more to me than Moreno. He has shown he is a force to be delt with in the NFL and has shown he should at least get a shot as the starting featured back.

    So I have a new prediction for brandon Marshall. He will be traded to the ravens because of derrick mason retiring. I predict that this will happen soon. They need a reciever and we have an idiot coach. Who thinks the same?

    Ehh – i don;t know, but now there’s some leverage in Denver’s favor if the come asking. Remember there’s always the potential jailbird Plaxico stil out there.

    I definitely think that Moreno will earn the starting role. They should keep Hillis at fullback. We should definitly use both of them because I think the two of them will be the best runners in the league this year. And I really hope B. Marshall learns that Denver is truly his home and stays and comes out this year and shows everyone why hes a Bronco!
