New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo

New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo

The Denver Broncos have lined up their first set of interviews for the vacated Head Coach position after they let go of Mike Shanahan. New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, “the” hot ticket this coaching season, will hold an informal interview this Saturday. Newly promoted Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris will also be interviewed on Monday.

Spagnuolo’s informal interview will reportedly consist of “dinner with the Broncos brass,” according to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com. Spagnuolo has already set up interviews with all three other teams looking for Head Coaches – the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets.

Meanwhile, interviewing Morris fulfills the Broncos’ obligation to the Rooney Rule, which states that NFL teams must interview minority candidates.

Don’t be surprised if the Broncos settle on either candidate. Both are hot names in the coaching circle. Morris is a bit green (no college head coaching or NFL coordinator experience), but I’ve heard plenty of good things about both guys. I’m also glad the Broncos and owner Pat Bowlen jumped right into the Spags sweepstakes before he committed somewhere else. Bowlen did say he wanted to finish the search as quickly as possible, so perhaps we’ll have a new coach by this time next week.

I don’t know if “spags sweepstakes” is the right way to put it. From all I’ve heard the Broncos job is the only hot girl to take to the dance and all the other jobs are a bunch of Rosie Odonell’s. Spags and all the other candidates should be groveling to get our coaching job.

Steve Spagnuolo seems like the best of what is available right now. Hope whoever comes in will at least consider hiring Jeremy Bates as the OC and keep our offence rolling.

Mile High Report was pretty high on Morris. The link is here:

YES!!!! this is good. very good. this guy can build a REAL defense. and i dont think there is anything to worry about when it comes to our offense. Bowlen already said he wants to keep some coaching personel on the team. and he cant be referring to Slowik or really anyone on the defensive side of the ball.

  • robtink242

Steve Spagnuolo is a good start, yeh even if he jus replace ‘Slow’ik.

  • ssc

as much as i’ll miss shanahan, defense and slowik were his big blind spots — the immediate focus on defensive-minded head coaching prospects is a promising sign and very exciting.

after the head coach figured out, get haynesworth!!!!!

we need spags…and bowlen will keep bates just for cutler lol (bowlen even said he will)

I think Steve Spagnuolo is just what we need

merc22- don’t forget the Bowlen also said Shanny was a “coach for life”. The NFL truly IS a business first.

Spagnuolo would be a great pick. We need a defensive mind like his. The players he has picked and built are the quality defensive manbeasts dominating in the NFL right now. Spags will also cost a pretty penny seeing how he is the highest paid coordinator right now.

Merc22 trust me you don’t want Haynesworth. History has shown that all DTs have monster years before their contracts are up then sign a fat contract, get lazy, and then proceed to suck. He would possibly be the highest paid defensive player in NFL history since he may ask for around 10 million a year. However he seems like he might stay on the titans.

Dear Mr Bowlen We were watching the USC game and we thought ofPete Carroll as a good canidate for the Broncos . I’m not sure if that works for you . But he’s seems to be a good coach Thanks coleen

  • OC Bronco

Kyle- Spagnuolo can not accept a job until the Giants season is over and that won’t happen for at least a couple of weeks and probably longer.

  • jchase8410

He can accept a job before the Giants win the superbowl again, he will just keep working until the season is over…and then make the move

  • Wale

Raheem Morris is what this team needs to be honest…..
