Shannon Sharpe (SI.com)

Denver Broncos all-time great tight end Shannon Sharpe has been voted a finalist for the 2009 Class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the NFL announced today. Sharpe is among 17 finalists that includes three other first-year eligible players.

Running back Terrell Davis, who was among the semi-finalists announced earlier in the season, was not nominated a finalist. Sharpe is the only Bronco nominated.

Sharpe played 12 seasons with the Broncos and 2 with the Baltimore Ravens, ultimately winning three Super Bowls between the clubs. He retired with NFL tight end records in receptions (815), receiving yards (1,060), and touchdowns (62).

There’s no doubt Sharpe deserves to get in the Hall of Fame, this year. Don’t blow it, HOF voters. The full list of candidates is after the jump.

Great, but I have to say this. First of all nothing against LT, he is a great RB but how many times do I have to watch SD games and hear how great LT is and he is a sure fire HOF. Then I see TD get snubbed time after time. LT is not any better than TD and how many times do I have to watch SD in the playoffs with LT on the sideline because of some injury. Look what TD did in the post season and compare it to LT’s postseason and LT gets totally demolished. Compare what TD did to most any other RB and he did in just a few short years what most can’t do in a long career. He holds post season records for a rb, one right after another. TD getting snubbed by the HOF just makes the HOF lose it credibility in my opinion.

sharpe , woodson and carter should be in the H.O.F. Cris Carter should of been in from last year

  • Danish Denver-fan!

Shannon is a lock, i think.

Does Grimm get a boost from his (great) coaching-performances?

  • orange and blue forever

There’s some great names here, but it would be a crime not to give it to Shannon. Go #84!

I guess we have to ask. If he is voted in, he will go in as a Bronco right? I would hope so.

Yeah I’m pretty sure he’d be a Bronco since he spent all but one year there.

My favorite Bronco of all time…he had better get in, it should be a crime for him not to get in! One of the best TE to ever play the game!!

My best memory of Shannon is on the sideline wearing an actual bronco looking hat and doing that dance. He was one of our best.
