Get those last minute Pro Bowl votes in, folks – the fan ballot ends at 10am MST Tuesday!
Here are my top five worthy Broncos Pro Bowlers:
5. Ryan Harris, OT – Right tackles don’t get the limited pub even their left-side counterparts get, but Ryan Harris has been outstanding in his first year as a starter. He’s allowed only one half sack this season while starting all 13 games thus far, one of only three players in the entire NFL that can claim the same or better.
4. Casey Wiegmann, C – Most people know how HUGE of a Tom Nalen fan I am – well, Wiegmann has lessened the blow of Nalen missing his second straight season with injury, and then some. The way he dominated Pro Bowl-bound Kris Jenkins of the Jets alone nearly deserves a trip to Honolulu. What’s more impressive is that Wiegmann has made all the line calls for one of the least-sacked offenses in NFL history, all in his first season with the team. If your’e watching closely, you’ll see the holes he opens up for the running game get bigger and bigger as the year goes on. The veteran deserves a trip overseas.
3. Brandon Marshall, WR – Marshall currently leads the AFC in Pro Bowl voting for wide receivers, and deservedly so. After a bit of a “slump” (if you can call 344 yards in five games a slump), he exploded back with a huge 11-catch, two touchdown game to lead the Broncos to victory against the hated Chiefs.
2. Jay Cutler, QB – Cutler leads the AFC in passing yards and is on track to break Broncos franchise records in passing yards and touchdowns. He’s fallen to #3 in AFC Pro Bowl voting for quarterbacks behind Mr. Unretired (and I’m guessing Peyton Manning). When he’s hot, he’s unstoppable. However, with the good comes the bad – Cutler has 14 interceptions in 13 games. It’s fair to say the Broncos will go as far in the playoffs as Jay Cutler takes them; if J.C. gets hot, the Broncos will surprise a lot of teams in January. If he has just one off game, the Broncos’ trip in the playoffs will be short-lived.
1. Ryan Clady, OT – The reason Clady tops this list is two-fold: for starters, HE NEEDS YOUR VOTES. He’s not even in the top five of AFC Pro Bowl voting, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Second, he totally deserves it. While Cutler has been spectacular at times but struggled at others, Clady has been rock solid and consistent all season long. That makes the difference for me – Clady has been just as impressive, but has yet to have bad game or even a bad play. He’s doing this while lining up at one of the most difficult and demanding positions in the NFL.
You might notice that all these guys line up on offense — with injuries taking some of our best defensive players out of the lineup for good chunks of the season, I couldn’t in good conscience rank the likes of Champ Bailey or D.J. Williams ahead of these guys.
Other Broncos worth mentioning: OG Ben Hamilton, DT Marcus Thomas, WR Eddie Royal, OG Chris Kuper, TE Daniel Graham.
