After a big run, an interception for a touchdown, and a seventeen play drive, the Kansas City Chiefs were in prime position for a repeat-upset against the Broncos. They were leading 17-7 in the second quarter.

Those were the last points Kansas City would score all game. The Denver Broncos, led by Brandon Marshall and Jay Cutler, scored 17 unanswered points of their own, dominating time of possession and total yardage to defeat the Chiefs 24-17.

Peyton Hillis, who left the game with an injured hamstring in the second quarter (no update available at this time), scored the Broncos’ first touchdown with an impressive 18-yard run. After Hillis went out, the Broncos were forced to become one-dimensional; Cutler and Marshall made sure that one dimension was enough for the victory.

The score doesn’t really tell the tale. Aside from the big drive the Chiefs handed the Broncos to start the second quarter (thanks in large part to a very controversial referee overturn on a challenged interception), the Chiefs were dominated.

The win ends the Broncos three-game losing streak at home, to the delight of Broncos fans everywhere who have been longing for an INVESCO victory since Week 6. It also gives them a three-game lead in the AFC West with three games to play.

The 8-5 Broncos will turn their attention to the 9-3 Carolina Panthers, who play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. Hopefully the Panthers’ short week will even out the edge the Panthers have based on travel alone. Go Broncos!

Very nice game. Thought really there was only one winner in the second half, we dominated the game after their huge drive. Once again our o-line was superb in creating holes for Hillis and sealing the edge for Bell’s big run on the TD drive, as well as (naturally) in pass protection.

On defense, no change in the lack of pressure on the QB, but the linebackers are playing so much better, especially Woodyard, who is fast becoming one of my favourite Broncos.

Also, I’d like to give a shout out to Josh Barrett, he was matched up one on one with Gonzalez most of the game, and restricted him quite well, never allowing a huge play. For a rookie to come off the practice squad and get given that responsibility is big, and he handled it well, giving as good as he got with the physical stuff.

All in all, great job, we’re almost there!!

Nice win. It’s good to see them finally not allow early errors affect. They shrugged them off and played a great comeback game. Really hope Hillis is okay, but that did not look good. And Bly, I wasn’t a fan of his, but he has really impressed me since Champ has been out, and Barret looks pretty promising: hope we finally have a long term Safty again.

  • Travel

Travel hasn’t been a problem this year – we seem to play better. If we don’t turn the ball over, we could well take this one away from the Panthers.

It feels so good. I still want to punch that ref in the face, but i’ll get over it. Bottom line… We’re 8-5 and looking good.

Only bad thing is hillis. I was happy to hear that it was not an ACL or MCL. Although it still sucks. I think he’ll be out 2-4 weeks if it’s bad but you never know. I hope i’m wrong.

    GO BRONCOS

  • T-Money

    I love our ROOKIES.

Left sidebar schedule has finally been updated! (to whomever keeps asking). Sorry for the delay there.

WHAT A GREAT GAME! It’s only the third game we’ve won by more than four points.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

BTW – NFLshop.com has 20% of jerseys today only… getting a RYAN CLADY jersey baby!

  • http://broncos-denver-broncos.blogspot.com/ Ian Henson

Here’s something I will put into an article tomorrow or Tuesday. Hillis is expected out 4-6-weeks.

  • Sam P

Lol, Ryan, is the torch being past from Nalen to Clady for you: he’s your new favorite active Bronco, since Nalen will likely retire?
Any idea where I could find one of those skullcaps from last year, the orange on with a white stripe down the middle?

  • DJQuinn

I’d be sad if Nalen retired… he’s the last remaining link to the superbowl, isn’t he? Oh well, hope Hillis is up and running soon…aweosome game!!! GO BRONCOS!

  • Boisebroncoguy

Hey Kyle, when is create-a-caption coming back?
-Anyways, Thank God we finally won a game we were supposed to. Maybe the Broncos should petition the NFL to play any playoff games on the road. Bummer about Hillis for sure! At least Tatum looks good and Selvin will hopefully be back soon. On to Carolina, Go Broncos! BTW, I am waiting to get a Clady jersey until one of the nicer ones with the stitched on numbers is available.

Man I hope Peyton is okay… that catch was insane! He’s absolutely amazing! I really hope that the offense elimates the turnovers next week against Carolina so we can clinch the division.

  • jchase8410

Defense only allowed 10 points today. Not bad.what was the turnover ratio today. I didn’t get to watch because again, southern Cali doesn’t need to see AFC west matchups. I really need a jersey to wear to the game on the 28th.

  • jcampb72

Great game….i love kc fans…went to kc last year in kc and there really high class fans…same with this year in dtown….8-5 baby! one more we clinch the division!

  • jcampb72

jchase8410 the turnover ratio was -1…pretty sure

  • jcampb72

my fav 5….elway….atwater….davis….wilson….cutler…..newer school for sure.

  • merc22

SO IAN YOU KNOW FOR SURE HE’S OUT 4-6 WEEKS…..CUZ I WAS TALKING TO MY FRIEND WHO IS A PHYSICAL TRAINER AND HE SAW THE VIDEO ON HILLIS AND HE THINKS 3-4 WEEKS

  • jcampb72

oh yeah…dre bly’s tackle at the end of the game was weak, but it was just enough….way to go D!

  • jchase8410

TD as a house out here where I live. I ran into him at Hollywood video not too long ago, and he hangs out at the wineries around here in the off season

  • Dakota fan

Hey jchase8410- if you run into TD again, ask him how his knee is. We might need to sign him.

    Maybe Sammy Winder is available?

    Rob Lytle?

What the heck are we going to do? I have confidence in Tatum, but the law of averages tells me he’ll go down sometime during the Buffalo game. Oh well- we’ll find someone.

Plus- this group of players we have this year is a class act, including the coaching staff. There may have been some teams who have lost a lot of guys to injury, but take away our best defensive player, our starting linebacking corps and five (no wait, six) starting tailbacks this year to injury and we are STILL on the verge of making the playoffs.

Once again, fans of other teams- question my sanity, but never question my loyalty.

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  • T-Money

So now that we are down to are 124th running back….. I bet we dig into the practice squad again.

  • jchase8410

Hey, side note, the Jets lost today, so if the playoffs started right now, Denver is the 3rd seed. Not much hope for a first round bye, but a better seeding.
Another side note…you its now what pissed me off? I was watching the Dallas vs pittsburg game by default, and every time the chiefs scored, they did a game break…but not once when the broncos scored. I love and hate the fact that the broncos are so hated nationwide. I get no highlights, but they stay under the radar.

  • Negative Ron

    Kyle,
I was watching interviews from the locker room and one of the players was talking about a RB that is on our Scout Team that is a lot like Larry Johnson. Do you know his name?

  • Negative Ron

    Kyle,

Never mind. I found out his name. Cory Boyd.

  • Andpark

We are going to be a scary team in the playoffs as long as we can keep some RB’s healthy and stop all these offensive turnovers. Rookies look great so we have a bright future but man we need to have some sort of running game going if we want to make a run!

  • Dakota fan

jchase8410- You just now figured out that the Broncos get no nationwide love? If your team is west of the Mississippi River, you get the same kind of recognition as my local Pop Warner team.

Here in the Dakotas, everyone thinks we’re Vikings fans, so they broadcast every move that bunch of idiots makes. Even Chad Greenway, Vikings LB, said yesterday that people are in “trouble” in this part of the country if they’renot Vikings fans.

Excuse me Mr. Greenway- I root for a team that has actually WON a few Super Bowls and not just makes an appearance at them. And please tell Pat Williams that his “diet pills” don’t look like they’re doing the trick.

SCREW the Vikings and everyone else-

    GO BRONCOS!!!

It was certainly a big game. Seeing Jay sitting on the bench after the pick I could see it in his eyes that he was starting to panic a bit. Whatever was said to him, if anything, must’ve been great advice.
