[Marshall]

The NFL has made it official – Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been suspended for three games for violation of the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. As previously reported, Marshall can agree to undergo counseling and lessen his suspension to two games.

No clue why it took nearly 48 hours from Adam Schefter‘s report stating EXACTLY THIS to the official announcement today. You all know how I feel, so I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments.

(Thanks to everyone for the tips via email and comments… NFL statement after the jump)

Statement by an NFL spokesperson:

Brandon Marshall of the Denver Broncos has been suspended without pay for the team’s first three regular-season games of 2008 for violating the NFL Personal Conduct Policy. If Marshall fully complies with required counseling and other conditions of the suspension, Commissioner Goodell will consider reducing the suspension to two games.

Subject to a potential appeal, Marshall’s three-game suspension would begin on Saturday, August 30 and he would be eligible to return to the Broncos’ active roster on Monday, September 22 following the team’s September 21 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Marshall is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games.

Because Javon “Out of Shape, Might as well retire” Walker is going to tear us a new one, right?

Hate to see us lose him for ANY games, but this is a much better outcome than it could have been. Let’s hope these are the only games Marshall will ever miss for conduct issues.

I won’t argue that Brandon Marshall didn’t deserve SOMETHING to get his attention, but Marshawn Lynch hit a woman with a car for crying out loud and didn’t get suspended for crying out loud! Suspensions without pay should really be the decision of a committee or group rather than one man, even if he is the commissioner.

Brandon Marshall’s lawyer Harvey Steinberg had a lot of interesting things to say. I’m working up a post about it tomorrow, but for the most part he and I share a brain.

I think how Marshall handles this news is going to be a great indicator of what we can expect from him in the future, and just how much he really is listening to Smith. And, I think how Shanahan speaks of this is going to say a lot about just how committed to high character he really is. I hope Marshall, on his induction into the H of F cites this moment as a turning point in his career. Otherwise, he’ll become trade bait like Bobby Humphrey and Clinton Portis.

Why did it take so long to come up with these support programs and policies? Re: Personal Conduct Policy
