Brandon Marshall and Adam Jones
Looks like Marshall had no trouble beating Pacman here. (Kyle Sonneman – DenverBroncos.com)

It didn’t take long for the practices between the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos to get ugly. Cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones drew first blood, when asked to compare Broncos WR Brandon Marshall with oft-compared Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens:

“He’s nowhere near T.O. He’s a good athlete, but he ain’t on T.O.’s level. T.O. is 10 times faster and 10 times bigger. I wouldn’t say he’s nowhere near T.O.”

Marshall’s quarterback, Jay Cutler, was quick to defend his #1 target, reminding everyone that they couldn’t care less about Jones’ opinion. “We go against Champ Bailey every day.”

Reportedly Marshall and Cutler got the best of Jones repeatedly in drills this morning – read more about this morning’s practice here. I love Cutler’s response – short and to the point. If Marshall can’t hold a candle to T.O., and Jones can’t cover Marshall for the life of him, what does that say about a guy a lot of Cowboys fans are hoping will become the team’s premiere #2 cornerback this year?

Pacman rips Marshall [CBS4 Denver]

WHy dont you suck it pac-man. Compare yourself to champ bailey. U are an idiot!!!

  • SivNiz

The cool thing about practicing against Dallas the last two years is that we now have a new rivalry if we ever play them in the regular season.

It seems like Marshall can school PacMan in both football and champagne spraying.

  • Brad

    Is Marshall wearing PJ’s???

  • Jason

Looks like it, yep Brandon beat Adam in his PJs. He may even have been sleeping though the reports are unconfirmed. ;-)

  • JC

Cowboy fans aren’t expecting Pacman to become the team’s premiere corner this year. They’ve got a guy you might’ve heard of: Terrence Newman, who’s a pretty damned fine cover corner (one of the best in the NFL, actually). Honestly, all I’m expecting out of Pacman is to replace Anthony Henry as the team’s second corner and to become the kick and punt returner. He does that, and I’m a happy camper.

That being said, he should probably keep his mouth shut until he’s back in game shape and is reinstated.

You’re right JC, Newman sitting out with some injury and Pacman covering BMarsh just kinda led to that sentence coming together I guess. Thanks for the heads up, fixed.

  • Pat

The Dallas morning news claims that the cowboys have manhandled both our offensive and defensive line. It said that are zone blocking scheme is not match for the cowboy’s large defensive lineman. Is that true?

  • http://merlinofchaos.livejournal.com E. Halsey Miles

Pat: That was in one on one drills. One on one drills are not as big a deal for the Broncos lines which are more about team effort and coordination than they are about each individual beating his or her man.

Also, in 9 on 7, our defense was stuffing the run pretty nicely, which is interesting. That said, in 9 on 7 they know a run is coming, so it’s easier to stuff; but even with that, it’s a sign that our d-line is at least improved from last season. That, IMO, is the most important takeaway from all this for me. If our d-line comes up to being just average–say we are 17th in the league at stopping the run — and our offense cleans up the red zone problems, we are a playoff caliber team.

If our d-line can move up towards the top 10, then we are a superbowl caliber team. I would like to say that last bit is possible, but I feel like we’re still one piece short of that.

  • Trent

“Adam” Jones is a tool. I wish I could have walked up and asked him to put his money where is mouth is.

  • Pat

    Thanks E. Halsey Miles.

  • http://ballhypecowboys tom

Brandon Marshall..He was asked a question and answered it..Sorry you mile high losers think everything is better in Denver..but if you think Marshall is as good as TO..You are high..

  • Riverscanbl&wme

    Dear Tom,

Pacman said Team Obliterator is bigger and faster than Marshall. I don’t know who would win a race, but Marshall is an inch taller and almost twenty pounds heavier than TO. While both are great running after the catch, Marshall has a mean streak he runs with that TO can only dream or run his mouth about. I would also say Marshall is a better blocker from watching him take DE’s last year. Although maybe its a lack of effort on Owens part that makes that statement true.

P.S. No Tom, I am not high and here is a tip from someone who has lived in both Dallas and Colorado. People in Texas are the losers who think everything is bigger and better where they live. The other thing I forgot to mention is that Marshall is this good this young and TO is in the last stage of his career.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Tom – He said he’s “10 times faster and 10 times stronger.” Are you kidding me? How do you expect someone to respond?

  • Person

Adam Jones said he was no longer Pacman. You can take the thug out of the streets but you cant take the street out of the thug. This is no way a squabble between Denver and Dallas but some fans are making it out to be. I don’t dislike Dallas because Pacman (yes he is still Pacman) runs his illiterate mouth, I dislike Pacman.

Tom, you are letting down Dallas as a fan. What gives you the right to come in here and run your mouth just like Pacman? If you were a good person you would agree that Pacman needs to shut up and Marshall is a good receiver. Marshall is not as good as T.O. has been but has the potential to be and faster than T.O. reached it. So please stop looking at the world with such bias and ignorance.

The guys on The Fan said they looked like they were joking around, but still. Pacman is a tard.

  • http://merlinofchaos.livejournal.com E. Halsey Miles

Hey it’s NFL Trash talk. It comes with the territory.

Marshall got a great dig back today.

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

Where does the pacman nickname come from? Is it because he spends all his spare time chewing on little white balls?

  • J-Dizzle

Riverscanbl…There is no way youve been watching NFL football and believe that nonsense.

T.O. is the most dangerous WR after the catch in the NFL because of his physicality. To say he could only dream of being as good as Marshalls “mean streak” when he runs after the catch is a joke. This man has been gone after by the likes of Ray Lewis and John Lynch (Who he knocked out of a game once) and they couldnt do anything with him.

As far as T.O. being in the “last stages of his career” is silly as well if you are making reference to his ability. Check the stats. There is no indication that he is even slowing down. Hell, compare the stats from his early career against Marshalls for the same amount of games they played. T.O.’s stats KILL his.

Marshall has alot of potential, and I like his as one of the top emerging WR’s in the NFL right now, but to compare him to Owens in any way and say Marshall is better is ridiculous

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Actually, those comparisons have been made, and the stats favor Marhall. FYI.

Owens has a nose for the end zone that Marshall doesn’t. Both are fierce after the catch. Marshall has better hands and is a much better blocker down the field. Marshall has the potential to be better than TO, but he’s not there yet.

  • J-Dizzle

The stats favor Marshall in what category? His stats at no point in time look favorable against T.O. And this “much better blocker” stuff is just an opinion. T.O. runs down field and flattens guys on blocks all day. Marshall is a great blocker too. But neither overshadow the other in that category. And it’s easy to say that he has the potential to be better than T.O. but that doesnt mean anything. Both T.O. and Randy Most have had the potential to be better than Jery Rice. NEITHER of them have succeded.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

What you don’t get is that no one is saying Marshall is as good as or better than TO. I said he has potential to be better, that’s all.

All we’re saying is that TO is NOT “10 times” better/faster/stronger. That’s Ashley Lelie territory there.

    Through two seasons:
    (rec – yards – TDs)
    Marshall – 122 – 1634 – 9
    Owens – 95 – 1456 – 12

Marshall has more catches, yards, while Owens, like I said, has a nose for the end zone Marshall simply doesn’t yet.

And I’m sorry, Marshall is a better blocker than TO.

  • J-Dizzle

Maybe you aren’t, but plenty of ther people on this forum are delusional enough to say that.

BTW, T.O. was the 3rd WR with the 49ers his first 2 years splitting time with a game J.J. Stokes who was being groomed as the teams eventual #1 WR as well as the “G.O.A.T” Jerry Rice and still put up those numbers.

Marshall is the #1 option in the Broncos passing game for obvious reasons.

An “Im sorry”, Marshall is NOT a better blocker than T.O.

  • cowboys fan

to is better than marshall will ever be…he has to be double covered and some times triple covered. y do u think witten is always open or the second WR…OWENS is covered more than Marshal… come on! and for saying Marshal is better than TO is pathetic because TO has the muscle of a linebacker and marshall is just tall and fast.
