Montrae Holland Still TFTP

Denver Broncos right guard Montrae Holland finally saw the practice field yesterday afternoon during the team’s 2nd session jog through. Apparently the experience was short-lived: Holland was held out of practice again this morning to work with strength and condition coach Rich Tuten.

His struggles to lose a reported twenty pounds have earned him the unfortunate fan-dubbed nickname “TFTP” on some message boards – Too Fat To Play.

While I’ve heard RT Ryan Harris played a bit better today, and Mike Shanahan was sure to give him some praise, I’d feel a lot more comfortable if I knew that Chris Kuper was there pushing him for reps at RT. Holland’s return would see Kuper slide over to that spot; he can’t return to the field quickly enough.

    bummed about the harris talk, but it occurs to me: where’s erik pears? is it a given that he’s backing up clady, and he gets no shot at retaking his starting RT spot?

    Thats a good point Steve, its easy to forget about Pears. (Maybe its just that most people want to). He really played poorly there last year, worse than his rookie year at LT filling in for the injured Lepsis in 2006.

    It is another option though, just maybe not an appealing one.

    I have only read one blurb about Tyler Polumbus, it was quite positive, and I know he’s had footwork( or lack thereof) issues. But any thoughts on his performance, or is he just a development project for this year?

    Trust me, I really am dying to be at TC myself. I wish I could give you an answer coming from my own two eyes. But looking around the different reports, I’m hearing that Polumbus is a plow in the run game, but is still rough around the edges in pass pro.

    One guy said he’s looked better than Harris and Pears… I’ve said before if Polumbus impresses he could take Pears’ roster spot. Another good train of thought though.

    There seems to be several guys around the league battling weight issues this preseason. Casey Hampton in Pittsburgh apparently has a lot more than 20 lbs to lose.

    Kyle, believe me I understand your frustration with not being able to attend camp. I live in Greenwood Village and haven’t yet been able to cross Arapaho Rd to see the Broncos.
