Darrell Jackson

Darrell Jackson
Name: Darrell Jackson
Height, Weight: 5’11”, 210
Position: Wide Receiver
Age, Experience: 29, 9
College: Florida

Darrell Jackson joined the Denver Broncos as an unrestricted free agent in April 2008, signing a one year deal most speculate reflects his intentions to reassert his value on the open market. It could also reflect the team’s hesitance to commit to a long term deal. The Broncos have had success with these deals in the recent past, signing both Montrae Holland and Brandon Stokley to one-year deals in 2007, only to turn around and offer them long term contract extensions before they hit free agency. Providing insurance at a valuable position while trying out a productive veteran, the Broncos and Jackson are both betting on each other to help the other out in 2008.

The Good: Outside of two seasons, Jackson has been a productive wide receiver at the NFL level. 2007 and 2005 saw him fall short of 500 yards (due to poor circumstances and injury, respectively). In his other six seasons in the NFL, Jackson has always put up good numbers, eclipsing 1,000 yards three times. Jackson is a prototypical West Coast Offense receiver – great for the short yardage game and yards after the catch. He has good hands, and many speculate that, with a return to this system (and out of a troubled quarterback situation in San Francisco last year), Jackson can return to being a great wide receiver.

The Bad: Jackson has been hampered with various injuries for much of the past few years – the last time he started or played in 16 games was in 2004. So durability is a concern. Jackson’s hands have always been his strength, even in Seattle (whose wide receivers were a bit notorious for dropping passes). Last year, he had a case of the drops for the Niners. No on’e sure if his best years are behind him or if he’ll return to form.

Status: Competing for starting job. Signed through 2008. The Broncos are hoping Keary Colbert will step into the #2 role, but Jackson can easily prove he’s worthy of the spot in Colbert’s stead. Darrell Jackson was born on Dec. 6, 1978, in Dayton, Ohio.

As always, we invite you, the readers, to partake. Which Darrell Jackson will we get – the disappointment in 2007, or the productive player of yesteryear?

targets, targets, targets…. we need to get jay some good targets. with adding jackson, we have a very strong wr set. i was happy we signed him. if he goes down to injury, we dont resign him. if he plays well along side brandon, we’re in great shape and have good depth behind them.

If we had Alex Smith throwing to us, what kind of year would any of us have? Jackson had good hands, great speed, understands the West Coast Offense. He’s a difference maker and gives us what I like to call “Marshall” protection. Just in case Goodell decides to put Marshall on the pine for a few games.

We need Samie Parker. Again, if you had Huard/Croyle throwing to you, how many passes would any of us pull down? This guy has “World Class Speed”. He’s the fastest player on our team. He’s has true breakaway talent. If he’d been playing with Jay Cutler, I believe he has 1000 yd ability. Couldnt understand why he wasnt being featured. Well, the answer is simple:Tony Gonalez/Dwayne Bowe.

I keep hearing about Colbert, but I sure we give Parker the chance that the chefs would not. Again, world class speed… and not just 1, we have 2 (parker/aldridge) Now that’s a 1st! You simply can’t teach speed, and speed has no slumps…
