Mike Bell came on strong for the Denver Broncos in 2006 as an undrafted free agent, running for 677 yards and 8 touchdowns in a part time role behind Tatum Bell. The elder Bell was traded following that season, which looked to open a possible door for Mike to have a bigger impact. Then the Broncos added free agent Travis Henry and undrafted RBs Selvin Young and Andre Hall, both who trumped him on the depth chart.
The Good: 2006. Bell’s high leaping, endzone-finding ability had a lot of fans excited after 2006, although to many it was clear he was not an every down back. He became the fifth undrafted running back in league history to run for over 500 yards in his rookie season.
The Bad: 2007. Bell’s follow up to 2006 saw him carry the football a whopping 6 times, gaining 3 yards and fumbling once. He was declared inactive for much of the season.
Status: Signed through 2008… Bell will have to work hard to earn back a roster spot this year. The Broncos kept all their runners from last year and added draft picks Ryan Torain and Peyton Hillis.
Now we invite you, the reader: Can Mike Bell make a strong return, or are his best days behind him?
We hope you enjoy these posts as BroncoTalk continues to develop the first fan-powered Denver Broncos roster on the web.

I don’t think he has much of a shot at making the roster. Should’ve moved him after ‘06 when he had some trade value.
It’s a shame when you think about it. He’s worthless on the market. Could have gotten a 6th rounder for basically nothing.
You know I’ve never seen anything in Mike that i have particularly liked….i dunno i don’t see him making any impact on our team this year.
i always pulled for the kid. i doubt he makes the team at this point, we have too many other guys- and he is heading the wrong way down the depth chart…
As much as i love his story (life-long Bronco fan) I can’t see him making any kind of impact. He simply CANNOT hold on to a football.
Thats a good point Danish….he does have trouble holding on to the ball….and lets remember thats one of shannys biggest pet pieves.
I agree with Danish. mmmmm danish. Now I’m hungry ;)
Its an absolute shame that he won’t make the roster - but here’s hoping he lands on his feet somewhere.
I personally think Bell was misused at fullback. With a new front line he would preform a lot better as a Tail Back.
gosh, he fumbles his first carry last year, and everybody says “he can’t hold on to the football” that’s dumb! You know in highschool Brandon Marshal started as a RB and his first carry was a fumble. Mike just gots to find out where he should play.
FB is not his thing.
THIS IS FROM denverbroncos.com
Who will lead the Broncos in rushing this season:
» Travis Henry - 38.9%
» Ryan Torain - 10.9%
» Andre Hall - 5%
» Selvin Young - 45.5%
TOTAL VOTES: 1544
Shanahan has kept Mike on the team for a reason, your analysis is faulty, merely because the inside information needed for an accurate rating you are not privy to. It was not the 2 fumbles of his career, and it was not because he was in the “doghouse”, or even his work ethic, it came down to whether he could be counted on. Mike is a talented back, as Shanahan knows, that is the reason he is still with the broncos. They could have got a 6 round pick for him, but the coach felt he was worth more. He has value in the league, and will play a significant roll on an NFL teams this year. I am believing it will be the broncos in ‘08
