Michael Pittman

Several sources, including ESPN and PFT, are reporting that the Denver Broncos have signed (or will sign) running back Michael Pittman to a one-year deal.  With Travis Henry still on the mend, the signing comes at a time when the Broncos can take a look at Pittman in mini camp and see if he can compete for a roster spot.

The Broncos backfield has become crowded, with Selvin Young, Andre Hall, Mike Bell, and 5th round pick Ryan Torain all expected to compete for a roster spot.

No word yet on whom the Broncos have released to make room on the current 80-man roster limit.

Pittman is 32 years old and brings a physical presence to the running game.  In 2007, Pittman ran for 286 yards on 68 carries (4.2 average) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Things aren’t getting any more clear when it comes to who will run the ball for the Broncos in 2008.  Our poll on the sidebar seems all the more pertinent now.  We’ll keep you posted on how this signing affects the players currently under contract.

Always kinda liked Pittman, but he’s old. I can’t imagine he’s got a better shot than Alexander.

does anyone else read this as showing henry to the door? i’m sure shanny will prove me wrong- but why sign him if travis is going to be on the team… to me it doesnt make all that much sense.

pittman has shown himself as more than capable to play in the nfl, but i think that his best days are behind him. what are the odds of him making the team??

I think somebody else will have 2 find another team, and he’ll make the 53 man cut

I think he has WAY better shot than Shaun.

Pittman? Pittman? What about Jason Talyor?

Reminds me of when I was a young man. I drove an old 65 Ford Falcon. Some days it started and some days it didn’t. I never knew when. But I had to get to work everyday, so I set up a backup to have a coworker pick me up when my car wouldnt start.
If Henry is such a gamble, I see Pittman as a good plan B.

I have always liked Pittman, but Henry is a much better back, plus we all have high hopes on Young and Torain, so I really don’t know what the Broncos are thinking on this signing….it does make it fun to think of what moves are coming down the road for the team though!!
