As draft day approaches, BroncoTalk will be giving you game tape highlights of some of the bigger (and smaller) names around the draft. Today’s installment: Earl Bennett, wide receiver out of Vanderbilt and former teammate of Jay Cutler.

Second video – after the jump – shows Cutler and Bennett connecting on multiple attempts as the Commodores drive for a touchdown.

Thanks Josh for helping me out with these…

Bennett is an obvious homer choice with the Jay Cutler connection, but I don’t mind. I’d like to see that second video’s drive repeated over and over, in Broncos unis of course.

I can’t say I’m all that enamored with Bennett. I think he’s a bit overvalued by Broncos fans because of his connection with Cutler. Bennett seems like a blue collar type player with good skills, but where does he fit into this offense? He seems like he blossoms into a possession receiver who plays out of the slot, at best. What we really need is someone to stretch the field and take some pressure off Marshall–who is arguably the best possession receiver in the NFL whose initials aren’t T.O.

I was thinking about that last night, Michael. Should we be moving Bennett higher up our board because of a Cutler connection? No. Take the better talent, period.

The only way we take Bennett is if he tops our board at any specific pick… and he’s not an upper second round grade.
