How do we know this? This post, written during our offseason “Smack Talk Week,” has just become BroncoTalk’s all-time most-viewed post. As the season’s gone along, more and more people searching for “Chargers suck” have come across our little corner of the web. Before, our discussion of the missing home field advantage in 2007 was the most-viewed post all time.

BroncoTalk: Not only a source of Broncos news, but a source of Chargers suckage all season long.

Ian Henson is the lastest guest blogger for BroncoTalk; he’s helping us wrap up Smack Talk Week by looking at the AFC West. You can check out his work at his Broncos Denver Broncos Blog, Enjoy!

So Kyle did it, he effectively sat the rest of the AFC West down after attentive back slaps to their collective faces. We may have had a bad year or two, but we’re still the best. The Chargers might be good now, but in reality, we’ve been doing it for years. Don’t forget it San Diego. Phillip Rivers can lead you to the door, but he hasn’t a clue how to get you in.

But I’m onto a bigger lily pad, I keep hearing the national media skimming over the AFC West, referring to us as: Weak, formerly strong, once great… It goes on and on. It made me think take a step out and look at the entire division… REALLY? The only reason we looked week in the last couple of years is because we’ve had to play each other for half of our schedule. Right?

Let’s look at it like this. If we were to have an all star game, yet it was a divisional all star game. Let’s just call it a Pro Bowl, but a pro bowl that featured just the individual conferences. We have the AFC West, the AFC North, AFC South, AFC East and the NFC West, et cetera… Who’s going to compete with us? A healthy Larry Johnson and LaDanian Tomlinson? Featuring a line that is made up of Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs and Raiders? Quarterbacked by Jay Cutler (sorry Phyllis, it may be Monday, but you still suck), Receivers like Javon Walker (sorry guys a broken jaw doesn’t affect your hands/leg work), Brandon Marshall, Chris Chambers and Dwayne Bowe. Don’t get me started on the Tight Ends, would we even need receivers? Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates, with Tony Scheffler as a THIRD STRINGER?

That’s just the offensive side, we’d run a 3-4 because the Chargers do and they have two All Pros on the defensive line, but we’d top that off with Elvis Dumervil at the other end. Derrick Johnson, Shawn Merriman, DJ Williams and maybe another Chargers inside linebacker somewhere in there (just because Niko hasn’t started yet). OH! And Champ Bailey and Nnamdi Asomugha, with Dre Bly and DeAngelo Hall backing up! Are you kidding?!?

So let’s move on, who’s topping that? AFC East? It would literally be the Patriots with maybe a couple Bills, Jets and Jason Taylor. NFC East? hmmm TO and Plaxico vs. Champ and Nnamdi, Jessica Simpson’s boyfriend wouldn’t be able to find someone within the three seconds he had to throw it to them, dump it off to Brian Westbrook in time to get smacked sideways by Merriman. Really, who else is there? AFC South, AKA the Colts would lose based on the fact that the Chargers helmets on the defense would make them choke.

So what do you say NATIONAL media? Want to give our division a little credit? Maybe with the fact that our division pulled the AFC East and NFC South this year we can show you. It’s still the toughest division to beat in football. It’s still the most competitive and you’re still going to respect us.

Smack Talk Week on BroncoTalk continues, celebrating the inefficiencies and inferior qualities of everything non-Broncos in the AFC West. Remember it’s all in the name of good, clean fun, and you can dish it in the comments.

Of course we saved the most bitter of rivals for last. We’ve already ripped into the Chiefs this week, a mere day after leaving the Chargers black and blue. Now it’s time to switch our focus to the Bastards by the Bay, the Oakland Raiders.

Hatred between the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders is as pure and white hot as it gets in the NFL. Here are five reasons the Raiders suck, in case you’ve been sleeping under a rock for the past 40 years.

The Crypt Keeper – How old, old, old man Al Davis still manages to run a successful NFL franchise is beyond me. Wait, did I just say successful?

So Close to Twenty – Over the past five years, the Raiders have gone under an unprecedented struggle for their franchise. During that time span, they have won a grand total of 19 games. If it wasn’t for those pesky four other years, the Raiders would have had a perfect season!

Coach Em Up – First, it was Mike Shanahan‘s departure that ultimately led to him wiping the floor with the Raiders as Broncos Head Coach for 13 years now. Then it was John Gruden being traded for a plethora of picks, then going on the very next year to beat the Raiders in the Super Bowl. Both vocalized their concern with the ownership having too much control. No wonder nobody wants to be their coach.

Get Me Outta Here – The recent exodus of Raiders has led to a bit of dirty laundry airing, with former players such as Warren Sapp and Dominic Rhodes voicing their concerns in different public forums. Much like the previously mentioned coaches Shanahan and Gruden, it’s apparent most people can’t wait to escape the jaws of this franchise. Who can blame them?

Can’t Buy Championships – $250 million in one offseason. The Raiders must have forgotten that they already sucked the life out of one incredible player in the NFL. Has anything reeked more of desperation?

When 1-800-THE-LOST got in touch with us about a dire case of a person missing for some 12 years, we were happy to help. Apparently, a picture of the lost person was seen on our web site, and the folks there asked for our help to put the pieces together.

Here is the picture the organization has had on file for over a decade now:

It’s simply tragic that it took this long for a reunion. The picture, along with the description of a flamboyant poser who isn’t all there, led us to only one possibility. We can proudly say we’re sure we got the guy.

A special thanks to reader Kerry N., without whom this news would not have been possible.

Smack Talk Week continues on BroncoTalk, celebrating the inefficiencies and inferior qualities of everythiing non-Broncos in the AFC West. Remember it’s all in the name of good, clean fun, no personal attacks, and you can dish it in the comments.

Today we’re exploring why the Kansas City Chiefs suck, and there’s just oh-so many reasons. It was hard to narrow it down to five, but I did my best. Enjoy.

One trophy forty years ago aint so hot, either – Yesterday I made sure to rub it in to Chargers fans that their team is the only Lombardi trophy-less squad in the division. Well, the Chiefs aren’t doing too much better, winning their only trophy in Super Bowl IV in 1969. They haven’t even returned to the Super Bowl since. Just shy of forty years without a Super Bowl berth… that’s a long, proud history of mediocrity right there.

You Play To Win The Playoffs – Super Bowls aside, the Chiefs are a proud franchise. This brave organization must have at least a few playoff victories to show for its merits, right? Wrong. Since winning Super Bowl Numero Quatro, the Chiefs have a won a grand total of three playoff games. In 38 years. All three occurred during the three year span of 1991-1993. The Chiefs have been one-and-done in the playoffs in their five playoff berths since.

Embrace the Rebuilding – I still have no idea how any coach, player, or fan can really appreciate the fact that this team has decided to rebuild. They’ve gone public with it. They’ve told the media, “This is a rebuilding team.” TRANSLATION: We suck. Seriously. I’m sure there a few football coaches out there. I was a volunteer assistant coach for a few years. How do you go up to a football player of any age and say, “Try really hard, but if we don’t win, aw shucks, it’s okay, we’re just rebuilding.” ??? Please fill me in here people. I cannot possibly understand how the Chiefs coaching staff expects their players to give anything near 100%. Once word got out that the team needed to rebuild last year, they packed it in, losing 9 straight to close the season! Brilliant move, fellas.

OMG Our Draft Ruled!!1! – You guys keep celebrating your April victory, which wasn’t the good anyway. Meanwhile we’ll focus on winning something during the only part of the year that means something: September through February.

Shrewd Lessons in Quarterbackery – When your division rival’s quarterback has won more games in your home stadium than your quarterback has (Jay Cutler 1, Brodie Croyle 0), you know you’re in trouble. What’s even funnier? You’re giving him another chance! It seems in their hurry to rebuild the team, they forgot about the most important position, and will go another season with Croyle and backup Damon Huard duking it out. Should be fun.

It’s Smack Talk Week at BroncoTalk, celebrating the inefficiencies and inferior qualities of everything non-Broncos in the AFC West.

Just a quick reminder – this is all in the name of good, clean fun – no personal, individual attacks on each other and you can have at it in the comments.

Today I’m breaking down the San Diego Chargers, giving you five reasons – in no particular order – why they are pretty much the trash of the National Football League. Enjoy!

Look at all the trophies – The Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, and, more recently, the Denver Broncos all have a bit of bling to boast in their trophy cases. The Lombardi Trophy is proudly displayed in each city, a mark of championship teams past, and proud symbol for each organization’s history. For all the wins the San Diego Chargers have earned in the past few years, it means NOTHING – I repeat, NOTHING – compared to a hard-earned NFL Championship.

Tainted supplements my ass – Suspended for four games after a tainted supplement left you testing positive for steriods, eh Shawne Merriman? Last season, the photo comparison on the right gained notoriety, showing how athletic Merriman is without chemical enhancements. The results were noticed on the field too – the video has been taken down, but we showed the brutal block that Jaguars tiny RB Maurice Jones-Drew executed against Merriman that left his ass on the floor. Let’s see how well you do for a few seasons, “supplement” free, before we anoint you the next Lawrence Taylor.

UPDATE: Apparently the top photo was doctored (actually the body of Jamal Williams). Still, just look at the neck (not photoshopped). And the working YouTube can be found here.

Grouchy, grouchy, grouchy – Are there bigger crybabies in the NFL? Every time they lose, all you see are pictures like this – Ladainian Tomlinson giving his quarterback an odd, frustrated look. Way to facilitate team unity, LDT. Even your own fans (see sig) are tired of your whiny antics.

A Team to Win Now – Time is running out, Chargers fans. Last year San Diego decided to keep Michael Turner on their roster, believing it was a team ready to “win now.” Well they didn’t. They were rumored to have declined a first round pick, and Turner is now elsewhere. Because they wanted to “win now.” Meanwhile, they overcompensated to pull off a trade for Chris Chambers last season the day of the trade deadline, giving up a 2nd round pick. Because they wanted to “win now.” Well, “now” is over, that season has gone and past, and the Chargers have to be left thinking that if they don’t make a run this season, their chance to win their first Lombardi trophy is likely over. They have an overrated QB, a getting-older RB coming off injury, and an offensive line that didn’t show enough consistency to make me believe they can get the job done.

In conclusion, winning a Super Bowl is tough enough… most teams most overcome injury, weather, bad luck, and, of course, the best opponents in the NFL to taste the Lombardi trophy. Unfortunately for the San Diego Chargers, most teams don’t have to overcome this as well:

Norv Turner. Enough said.

The offseason doesn’t get any deeper than this. We’re four weeks away from training camp, the first real signs of a football pulse for the 2008 season, which is still just shy of two months away from the first snap of the regular season. It can be a mind-numbing experience, waiting for football to return again.

To spice things up a bit this offseason, we’re introducing Smack Talk Week, celebrating the inefficiencies and inferior qualities of everything non-Broncos in the AFC West. Once or twice a day this week, we’ll be exploring the seemingly infinite amount of reasons why the Kansas City Chiefs, the Oakland Raiders, and the San Diego Chargers brutally suck. Pretty plain and simple.

We’d like to analogize it this way: Do you have any friends that happen to be fans of another team? Do you and your friend ever engage in mild to moderate other-team bashing around the water cooler? Of course you do! Consider this a lot like that, except with a water cooler the size of a lake and an audience of several thousand.

It’s all in the name of good clean fun, fortifying a healthy rivalry between the Broncos and their AFC West competitors. Keep it relatively clean in the comments, and you’re more than welcome to dish it out, Broncos fans or otherwise.

Of course, if you have something you’d love to add to this week, drop us a line at broncotalk@gmail.com and we’d love to post your thoughts or article. The series should run through Friday, right before Kyle heads off to his annual summer vacation for just over a week. More on that later.

We hope you enjoy Smack Talk Week… and to get things started:

Oakland, please keep leaking internal memos asking for your Head Coach to resign. We almost forgot how incompetent you really are. Thank you.

It’s been brought to our attention that there is no professional football in May. Or June for that matter. Some would call this the “off” season. While this might be true for the sport itself, and our Denver Broncos, it most certainly is not the case for this blog.

Do you stop being a fan during these months? No, you say? Is this a fan-driven web site? Why, yes it is! The news front may be quieter this time of year, but we’re going to continue to work just as hard to deliver the best possible material to Denver Broncos fans.

Here’s a lineup of things to come:

Features

Training Camp Preview – This year, just as so many other years, the Broncos will use training camp to determine who starts and who sits at various positions. We’ve got a lot of murky clouds to navigate through this time around – wide receiver, running back, offensive line, defensive line, and safety positions all require deep analysis, and we’ll be breaking it down for your viewing pleasure. Who’s the incumbent? Which rookies could play prominent roles? Who do YOU want to see start? These should be the meatiest features of the next two months.

Interviews – We’re working hard to land interviews with players and personnel, and are hoping to get in touch with some of the local writers who cover the Broncos, too.

Player Bios – Sometimes short, sometimes long, by the time training camp rolls around we hope to have just about everybody.

Cool Weeks

Smack Talk Week – We break down the AFC West for an entire week (and maybe the Colts/Patriots too just for kicks) and tell you why they suck. Badly. Starts Monday May 26th (two weeks from now).

Tradition Week – Celebrating Denver Broncos history. Coming second week of June.

Reader Week – The readers take over! You can submit your posts now via e-mail to broncotalk@gmail.com. Just put “Reader Week” in the subject line and we’ll publish the best! First week of July.

As always…

Breaking news, buzz, rumors, and opinions abound, with a healthy dose of Daily Links each weekday! We’ve got QB camp, mini camp, and any new signings (you know there will be a few) to cover.

Finally, a burning question… What do you want out of this site? Give us a good idea for a segment, feature, or even a Cool Week and we’re generally happy to comply. Drop them in the comments.
