Add Rashard Mendenhall to the list of free agent running backs that the Denver Broncos are interested in this offseason.  The team has already been linked to Shonn Greene and Steven Jackson, and is now reportedly interested in Mendenhall.

Per the Denver Post‘s Mike Klis:

Rashard Mendendall, who at 25 years of age and with two 1,000-yard rushing seasons will be one of the youngest and most accomplished running backs to hit the free-agent market Tuesday, has drawn interest from the Broncos.

The level of the Broncos’ interest in Mendenhall is difficult to gauge. They have a menu of 12 to 15 free agent players who they believe could fit their roster under the right circumstances and for the right price. While contacting agents of these free-agent players, the Broncos to date have said little more than they have some interest and they’ll get back to them later.

Other free agents that the team has looked at include Dwight Freeney, Osi Umenyiora and Dunta Robinson.  Denver is also reportedly interested in trading for Darrelle Revis, while attempting to lower Elvis Dumervil‘s salary.

I like the idea of mendenhal the best, if salery is equal. It won’t be equal.

I wanted us to draft Mendenhall bad and was pissed when we passed on him. Too get him now would be awesome. His only down fall seems to be injury’s as well. Buuuut if Knowshow plays like he did at the end of last year these two could swap healthy/Injured times and make one guy ;-).

Saw him play at U of Illinois many times in his season there and he is a beast when healthy. If his knee and his mind about it are healed he would be like a young McGeehee, but I think he is a little shiftier than Willis. And even if McGeehee doesn’t stick we all owe him a lot of gratitude for giving his all when he played and he was a tremedous team player!

Mendenhall would cost too much and would probably not be talked down on pay with his SB ring. He also comes with injuries. Chris Ivory got issued a level 2 tender from the Saints. We’d have to give up a 2nd round pick, but he would cost so much less than Mendenhall. Either way, splitting carries with Hillman should keep any FA running back fresh.

sorry we aren’t giving up a 2nd rounder for Ivory!! That just isn’t gonna happen. He isn’t worth it anyways!!

Oh no. Please no. I haven’t liked any of the Broncos free agency talk for the last week and it’s just getting worse! Why would you get another small back who’s injury prone!? We already have those! I want a big back who’s reliable between the tackles. Maybe Steven Jackson is a stretch, but there are other big backs out there!

No Mendenahll and no Greene. Both players are over rated. I would much rather take a rookie in the 3rd round.
