If you were following Von Miller‘s Twitter feed early Thursday morning you were probably startled.  The Broncos’ second-year linebacker Tweeted the following at approximately 10:34 p.m. (MT):

The Tweet seen above suggests that the team announced via Twitter that Von Miller was going to be traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for defensive tackle Casey Hampton.  This caused many to suspect that the Broncos’ Twitter account was hacked, but that was not the case.

A few keyword searches on Twitter led us to find the original Tweet (ironically from a Steelers’ fan — whose Twitter handle we will not reveal for their own safety), which merely made the comment as if it was a retweet from the team by adding quotation marks before @Denver_Broncos and at the end of the Tweet.

The Broncos had nothing to do with the situation, and their Twitter account was not compromised.  Even so, it gave a fright to some Bronco fans, and Miller was quick to assure that he was staying in Denver.

It’s unclear when Miller realized it, but he ultimately discerned that the Tweet was not real.  Yes, the Pro Bowler will be back in Denver this season.

After seeing Von Miller harass Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the playoffs earlier this year, Steelers fans would probably love to see Miller over in Pittsburgh.  That’s not happening anytime soon, though.  And if Miller has his way, it never will happen.

There is nothing in Twitter that prevents anyone from faking a tweet, even from those accounts that are “Verified.”  All you need to do is add two letters in the beginning of the “tweet”, which are “RT”.

    That’s exactly right.

In this case, a bitter Steelers fan wanted the world to think that Von Miller was being traded to his team.  If nothing else, Miller noticed — I don’t know if that was their goal or what.  Seems pretty pointless to me.

Omar Bolden agreed with Von’s post implying he will too… lets just hope he can make the same kind of impact as Von (or even half the impact would make him a solid corner).

I knew that tweet was false because of an earlier tweet from the real Broncos…Josh McDaniels has been fired.  Zing!

Can we just go ahead and call them the squeelers?
