Peyton Manning working out in Denver on March 26, 2012

Peyton Manning working out in Denver on March 26, 2012 (John Leyba/Denver Post).

New Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is wasting no time getting to work in Denver — even if the newest NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement complicates matters.

Manning just-so-happened to be spotted working out at a high school in Highlands Ranch today by Denver Post photographer John Leyba (curious indeed. Was the Post tipped to his workout? Could be). Leyba captured Manning’s solo workout in this slideshow on the Post’s website.

Manning threw to Broncos teammates Julius Thomas and Eric Decker, according to Lindsay Jones. Center J.D. Walton was also there.

Manning can work out with teammates until April 16, as long is it is outside Broncos facilities, the Denver Post reported over the weekend. “I’m going to have to get up to speed on the (offseason workout) rules,” Manning said. “I know we don’t have nearly as much time as we used to.”

Clearly that’s a lesson Manning has already taken to heart.

(This post was twice updated with more accurate information regarding the players present at Manning’s workout).

So a post photographer happened to spot Manning!

This sort of thing reminds me of that classic bit in the west wing where Bartlet “accidentally” meets some foreign dignitary and says “Fancy meeting you in place they told you were going to be”

Just surprised they didn’t get any pics of DT/ED/JDW. If you’re gonna stalk PM like paparazzi you gotta go all in!!

I think you missed something here– all the reports are saying JULIUS Thomas was there, not Demaryius!

That second photo looks like Manning’s arm is about to snap in two. Yikes!  lol  Glad the chemistry is getting a early start though!

This is why Elway replaced Tebow. I love Tebow, and think some day, he’ll be great, but look at that picture. Do you notice anything in it that has been lacking from Tebow, and is probably the reason Manning is so successful? It isn’t mechanics, it’s far more simple than that. What I see here is our QB PRACTICING with teammates in the offseason. I don’t see Manning beating tires with sledge hammers. I don’t see Manning chopping down trees. I don’t see Manning pushing suvs up hill. I see Manning throwing to teammates. I see Manning practicing play action. I see Manning developing a rapport with his WRs/TEs.

This is what Tebow needed to be doing last year and this year. Yes, I know he flew Lloyd to Jax to work out a few days, but other than that, last year he spent his time doing book tours, talk shows, doing pushups, etc… This year, he was at superbowl parties, academy awards shows, other events. Basically, Tebow spends his offseasons doing everything NOT football related, whereas Manning does everything that IS football related. Yes, I know he “works out every day”, and I truly believe that. However, those workouts won’t do anything to make him a better QB. Nobody will ever convince me that by doing pushups, or swinging a sledge hammer, you’ll become a better QB. Throwing to your teammates will make you better. Studying the playbook and then going out to a football field to practice the plays will make you a better QB. Swinging an axe and bench pressing won’t make you any better. Yes, I know that Tebow met with a QB coach in california for a few weeks, but then what? What has he done besides that? Manning has been working out daily just like Tebow, but you know the difference? Manning is actually involving his teammates and developing timing with them, whereas Tebow isn’t/wasn’t.
I love Tebow, but man, that dude needs to focus his workouts towards activities that will make him a better QB, instead of activities that will simply make him more muscular.

I caught that too. Good catch.

    ahhh!! Thank you!! Fixing…

I’m almost surprised that the whole o-line didn’t make it out there.  Maybe Stokely too!

All kidding aside, that’s a great sign for things to come.  I would like both Thomases to get some informal reps with the Manning.  The sooner PM understands them, the faster our O can redevelop.

I do believe that if Timmy dropped about 10 or 15 pounds of muscle, he might very well turn into a much better QB.  That and also practicing with other WR’s.

    You forgot the underwear commercials.

Wow, so that’s how a real QB goes through his trowing motion?!?!? Haven’t seen that in a while…

    Awesome!

  • Hansen

Yes! This is what a focused, professional NFL QB does.

Nah…we need a guy with terrible footwork and a glacial throwing motion who sprays his passes around like a high schooler.

    Hurr durr…Tebow Forever!!!!

I thought for a second those were “camo” shorts and I was wondering how the Post Paparazzo saw him at all.

“Is that a telephoto lens in your pants, or are you just happy to find me”?

Oh, sorry!  I thought this was “Create-a-Caption”.

Uhh… don’t me wrong, I love Manning. But, Tebow flew his receivers to Florida last offseason to practice with them. Tebow also worked out with Von Miller almost basically after he was drafted.

So that’s not right at all.

Manning looks more like a beer drinking redneck than a NFL QB with his skinny chest, fat ponch belly and stringy arms.

I hope he hit the weights and had a protein shake after that picture was taken lol

  • Don Speer

Manning has always looked like that. Didn’t you see him in all those Saturday Night Live skits?

I know he flew Lloyd, and possibly Decker to florida for I think 2 or 3 days? After that… nothing. But I already mentioned that in my post.

Also, I said that I have no doubt he works out every day, but his workouts aren’t of the variety that will translate into being a better QB. I loved that when Miller was drafted, Tebow bought him the gear and worked out with him, but ultimately, that didn’t make him a better QB, because lifting weights and doing cardio with our LB isn’t exactly building timing with the starting WRs and TEs. That’s where Manning is different from Tebow. Instead of doing things that don’t translate into better QB play, Manning instead goes over the plays with his WRs, TEs, OL and practices timing. That is a workout that directly translates into being a better QB, not lifting weights and doing wind sprints with the LBs.

Please, I hope nobody thinks I’m anti-Tebow, because anyone who has been here for any length of time knows that I love Tebow and wish we could have kept him. But at the same time, I don’t let my love of him blind me to his deficiencies.

    I’m not saying you’re anti-Tebow.

I’m just saying what you were saying was wrong.

Also, there was a lockout last summer that really hindered team activities.

  • MightyMike

Too much macaroni & cheese? Maybe PM hasn’t been working out much lately.

In all fairness though, we are used to seeing the most muscular QB in the NFL in a Bronco uniform. Those days are gone though……

PM is a beast, as gd as he is he strives 2 be better, he could role wit all the hype & let he teammates get on page wit him , but he does the opposite & get on page with them. He is everything u can ask from your QB. I understand humility but Tebow shows y he isn’t our QB by saying he play wherever the Jets need him 2 help the team, name 1 other top QB 2 say that if your a QB then this who u are nothing else just become a better QB to help your team win. Thats what PM is doing.

I agree with your Peyton Manning compliment’s. But please if your going to post opinions and responses don’t treat the thread like a text message and structure logical sentences. I had to read this 4 times to figure out what you were attempting to say, and the only reason I got that was from context clues. Don’t make yourself sound like an idiot.
