As soon as Peyton Manning officially signs with the Denver Broncos, the team will place fellow quarterback Tim Tebow on the trading block, according to ESPN.  Although the team will try to trade him, it is not guaranteed that they will be able to do so.

ESPN‘s Cecil Lammey says that the team will look for two draft picks in exchange for Tebow, second and fifth round selections.  Lammey also speculates that Denver will be interested in Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart if he hits the trading block, as Carolina just signed free agent running back Mike Tolbert.

There has been heavy speculation that the Broncos will now try to trade in several other free agents for Manning, including tight end Dallas Clark and possibly wide receiver Mike Wallace.  Another option would be former Colts center Jeff Saturday, who would be viewed as an upgrade over Denver’s J.D. Walton.

Tebow, 24, was drafted by the Broncos in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft (25th overall).  After playing in only three games during his rookie season, Tebow played in twelve games last season and lead the Broncos to an 8-8 record and a playoff appearance for the first time since the 2005 season.

Though he has an unconventional throwing motion and often struggles as a passer, Tebow is a phenomenal athlete, teammate and rusher.  After the Broncos were embarrassed by the New England Patriots in the Divisional round of the playoffs last season however, team Owner Pat Bowlen said he wanted to win Championships, not Divisions.

The team is now expected to move on from Tebow, who has 2,383 career passing yards and seventeen touchdowns against nine interceptions.  Though there is still a possibility that he could stay with the Broncos, it appears that Tebow Time will be leaving Denver.

What’s your take on the situation?  Will you root for Tebow if he goes to another team?

Most excellent post Pete. I love your fandom and level of loyalty. Mine is the only I know to be stronger ;-)… (I of course submit to equality there).

I’m hoping the best for Tebow when he moves forward. I really don’t see there being a huge amount of interest but I could be wrong; point is you may get your wish and he may have to stay… Never know.

  • kerry

set him free? how exactly? by letting him not complete more then 7 passes a game? by letting him get sac ked because he holds the ball too long because he cant read a defense? yeah Tebow is a great rah rah guy, but cant throw, cant read a defense, run first throw second QB.

  • kerrry

um no he cant back up PM. no team prepares TWO different offenses for a game. Tebow cant function in a pro-style offense. quit making up non-sense to keep Tebow. he is gone even if Elway gets a ham sandwich for him

  • Erh49gator77

Denver does not deserve Tebow, a winner wherever he has played. Tim is one of the best ball control QBs, ever. Just look at his lifetime turnover to TDs. ratio  Manning couldn’t beat Florida because of his turnovers.

  • kerry

um Denver wouldnt have given up on Elway because Elway wasnt a project QB. he was in fact considered the best QB to come along ever!! Tebow wasnt. Elway never had problems throwing a ball or reading a defense. he only needed time to become accustomed to the game. Tebow is light years behind even the best backup QB’s in the NFL. get over it. a HOF QB VS a project….hmmm what did you think was gonna happen?!

  • Anonymous

I have to come on and say that I was wrong. I really didn’t think he was going to be coming here. I thought for sure he would go to Tennessee and would have bet on it. Glad I didn’t.

With that said I’m stoked to have a player of his caliber but as I’ve mentioned before I am not a huge fan of his on the field. I think he is a bully of sorts and as all Manning’s seem to do he pouts when things don’t go his way (not near as bad as Eli, by a land slide). That irritates me some but he does get results and his team  mates really seem to listen to him.

As for Tebow; I wish him all the luck in the world and hope good things for him. Maybe, as Pete thinks he will pan out to be a franchise guy. I don’t think so but certainly not because he may not deserve it or doesn’t try hard enough. Plenty have ‘maybe’ deserved it or tried hard for it and not made it, Tebow will in know way fall short from lack of effort.

    Lastly…

So is Von playing for free now??? lol

  • kerrry

um college has nothing to do with it. college accomplishments mean jacks**t. and selling merchandise doesnt win SB’s.

  • kerrry

um Tebow did not get them to the playoffs. our defense and running game got us there. is was despite Tebow, not because of him. and if MArion Barber stays in bounds then there is no playoff anything. quit whining. and you have zero idea if Manning is one hit away from being done. and Manning gets rid of the ball so fast that he rarely gets hit solidly.

  • kerrry

true that. points are needed especially if our defense only stays as good as they were last year. which i think they will  be better with a good draft along the DT position.

  • Anonymous

Yes 18 Broncos Jerseys will be popular. I’ll get one for no other reason than the nostalgia value of it ;-).

  • kerrry

yet Manning has a SB ring and is a HOF QB drafted number one overall and was never considered a project QB or a run first QB. MAnning has never had a problem throwing the ball or reading a defense and is in fact one of the greatest QB’s to ever play the game. Tebow wont be top 75 when retires. oh and Florida has nothing to do with who the better NFL QB is. but hey you will always have your Tebow florida blanky to curl up with.

I will follow Tim where ever he goes. I agree with badtrouble 1321 above.

  • Meh

It doesn’t have to automatically be anything.  I just don’t understand all the hateful comments.  Those are all reasons to be happy someone isn’t your QB going forward, but still I don’t understand the hate for success.

  • C enorton

Tim Tebow may not be the a-typical NFL quarterback, but but on TV  Bill Parcels commented to the effect…Tebow might not be my quarterback, but I would want him on my team! Consider how Coach Fox and Manning might utilize his talents on the field.

Ha!  Can you imagine Bunkley getting out of the cab after landing in New Orleans, and saying, what, Manning’s in Denver, see ya!  So long Tebow..I was one of your biggest fans, but you just got Manning-ed in a cut throat game of competition.  I still think we’re going to the Superbowl this year, even more so now…but not with Tebow…let’s hope it’s exciting.  Man…Thomas and Decker have to be stoked…Royal and Lloyd have to be kickin’ themselves for defecting…enjoy Tom pretty boy Brady…LOL

i disagree with your analogy of  Sharpe’s and Atwater’s situation being similar to Tebows.  Sharpe and Atwater were both veterans who left because they wanted more money (and Atwater wanted to play on 3rd downs).  I was pissed at both of them for leaving, not the organization for not signing them. They both left huge holes to be filled within the organization.
I think people do have a legitimate gripe at the organization for how these events played out.  It was handled pretty sloppy.
But I am  friggin pumped we got Manning!  I hope we can keep Tebow too

  • Jeff peterson

I will be rooting for Tim wherever he is he is a class act unlike some other people I know

  • dbroncs24/7

Despite Tebow?? I’m sorry but if he wasn’t in our running game wouldn’t have been as strong. Watch the first games of the season with Orton if you don’t believe. Im glad we got Peyton but we wouldn’t have made it last year w/out Tebow. By the way now you’re commenting again? We get a HOF QB and now you’re a fan again huh?? can you say FAIR WEATHER

  • DoubleR7

I couldn’t have said it better Colorancher. Thanks Tebow, I will support you wherever you end up. I am a Bronco fan & Tebow fan.I think some Tebow fans forget what Tebow is all about. Tebow himself has said that its not just about him. While Tebow helped “right the ship”, Tebow definitely didnt save last season by himself. I think Tebow was complimented by one of the hardest working defenses in the league, and Tebow’s ball control run heavy offense was able to win games. But like Pat Bowlen, I dont want to win Divisions….I want to win Championships. Tebow’s inability to throw just will not win a Super Bowl. So with that said Thanks again Tebow for some great wins and hope you continue to have success throughout your career, but as for now the team & Bronco nation wants to see the former Colt grow into the Bronco he has long to be! Let’s Go Broncos.

  • kerrysucks

    Cough Cough Kerry

Been a Bronco fan for 40 years.  Crap.  We’re trading a young warrior for an aging mechanic.  I will never forget Tim Tebow pulling our team out of the mud.  He’s the toughest SOB on either side of the ball.

  • pey-pey

that is so clever, and funny! did you make that up?  You should be writer or something!

Amen! I’d be glad to be equals.

I’d love if Tebow stayed, but the realist in me says “no way.” There are rumors that Elway told Manning that Tebow would be traded, but again, those are rumors, and look at all the turmoil rumors have caused on these very forums (especially between me and others).

I just don’t think this team needs the distraction. I don’t think the fans want the distraction, and I know the front office won’t allow the distraction that a “Tebow and Manning together on the same team” circumstance would bring. I don’t buy into any of the hype about them having the same agency, because the players ultimately make the decisions, and if Tebow really wanted to sit and learn behind Manning in an attempt to become a better long term QB, he would tell his agent that he isn’t going anywhere. He’d also publicly state that this is a good thing, and that learning behind Manning would make him a better QB. The front office, if Tebow did this, would be compeled to keep Tebow simply because they already paid a boat load of his contract already, so he’s coming cheap. But alas, there is just no way this happens.

I’m not sure what his value is, but I have a feeling that the Broncos will take whatever the best offer is for him within a few days of us officially signing Manning. There are rumors that the Patriots want him (ties to McD), or maybe Miami/Jax, but man, I’m just not sure.

  • DoubleR7

Ummm I bet you think Tim Tebow threw the ball…..ran to catch it….and burned the secondary to score in our last playoff win. No…..I give Tebow credit for a beautiful pass, but surely you know this was also a great effort by DT to get behind the secondary and fight off defenders to score….Thanks Tebow…but can’t wait to see what Peyton Manning will bring to the Broncos. Tebow is definitely a class act and our team will miss your tough running ability and we wish you well in the future. But it’s time to see the former Colt become the Bronco he has longed to be…..Oh and Teresa “Who is to say Tim Tebow wont get hurt….”

I agree with you on Tebow and the fact that we shouldn’t get rid of him, but that is about it.  I think you are underestimating Manning.  He is smart enough to know if he can’t play anymore.  I think if he really couldn’t he would retire.  There have been several reports out that several doctors have said that he is healthy and his nerve damage is healing.  Not to mention the physicals he has received from DEN, TN and SF.  He is not at anymore of a risk then any other player in the league.  So please stop using that excuse (1 and done).  You can say that about any player.  My ideal situation would be to keep both Manning and Tebow, but if I had to choose between the two, I would choose Manning every time.   Even at his age.  I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the fact that you would choose not to follow the Broncos because of the decisions they have made makes me believe that you are not a true Bronco fan.  I bleed orange and blue and whatever decision they make I may piss and moan, but never would stop supporting them.

A question for you….  What happens if Tebow goes to another team and sucks it up?  Let says he ends up being out of the league in a few years.  Are you still going to complain about this?

  • efxdude

yeah, we don’t need them dum TT fans, they don’t agree with EFX like we do. They don’t know football games like we do. Peyton will win us 2-3 superbows just like the experts say he will.

  • Guest

I find the Bronco Nation very narrow minded. Because of Tebow your franchise has attracted worldwide attention, more people watching NFL, buying merchandise etc, even learning that Denver is a mile high etc… and you want to ship us Tebowfans out on a truck… maybe after 5 years of Tebow at Denver I would have become a Bronco fan for life… but now I will just wait to support the team that Tebow is traded to and probably become a lifelong fan, long after Tebow has retired….

  • DoubleR7

I dont think there are alot of ppl who HATE Tim Tebow. He is definitely a class act and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. What’s to hate about him….nothing. I am a Bronco & Tim Tebow fan, but I dont like the fact that the guy just hasn’t showed great promise in be able to throw the football consistently, read defenses well, & deliver on 3rd and long. So I dont understand how some Tebow fans are forgetting what Tebow is all about! Tebow is about the team, and I am sure he understands the Broncos decision and Tebow himself will continue to compete to do whatever any team wants him to do to contribute to their franchise. Why is it considered hate because fans say bring on Manning? Thanks Tebow for some great games and wins. I will continue to support you and wish you much success in the future. But I too, can’t wait to see Peyton throw the ball around.  I am a Bronco fan for life and enjoyed seeing Tebow make some amazing plays, but as a true Bronco fan I didn’t like to see him struggle. Maybe, a Tebow & Manning showdown is to come! Or who knows Tebow may love to challenge Peyton in practice…whatever the outcome Go Broncos!

Tebow better than Manning – here are the stats to prove it http://www.gazette.com/opinion/tebow-135215-nfl-manning.html

Greatest free agency acquisition in the HISTORY of the NFL! This is the consensus of the experts, coaches, players and commentators today after the news broke that PM was coming to Denver.  I am ecstatic as well should all Bronco fans be.  A QB worthy of the Elway mantle and it was Elway that pulled the trick.

As to those Tebow fans that are excoriating Elway and the rest of Bronco management for making the acquisition, I feel sorry for your shortsightedness.  Tebow cannot stay in Denver for his own good.  He cannot back up PM because he cannot throw the precision passes that a PM offense requires.  And if he were to be used in spot duty there would be no surprises as the defense would know what was coming.  When Denver lost with Tebow, they were blown out because the opponents figured the offense out.  Even when they didn’t figure it out, the wins were all close and come-from-behind. Luck had a part but I always say it’s better to be lucky than good. Denver will acquire a quarterback worthy of learning from the master next year and the remaining 3-4 years of Manning’s hall of fame career.

Denver is instantly a super bowl contender.  Free agents will line up to become Broncos and play for Manning.  Ironic that the Colts have provided the two best QBs in Bronco History. And PM will be a Bronco until he retires.  He would have stayed in Indy had he not been run off, so we know he is loyal and likes stability.  My guess is all Bronco fans will be comfortably back in the fold once we easily win the AFC West and go deep into the playoffs.

I do have a suggestion for PM.  Since the No. 18 is a retired Denver No. (Kelly Tripucka), it would be a magnanimous and respectful gesture for him to change his number even though Tripucka has given his blessing for PM to use the number.

  • Jmcglone

Joe Montana failed with the Chiefs coming out of retirement, Brett Farve failed with the Jets and the Vikings coming off injuries late in his career, what makes you guys think Peyton Manning will do any better at this point in his career?

I must start out by acknowledging I thought PM would go to the Titans.  Just glad no one made a bet with me.  Can’t wait to hear what drove his decision to land as a Bronco.

Time will tell if it is a good decision… you know one thing for sure, it took big huevos to do what Elway just did… BIG huevos.Elway and Fox no doubt are convinced TT is not the long term answer and you have to trust that.  Hopefully we land J Saturday and Franklin better learn to pass block in a hurry. We still need a ton of help on defense… and J Mays ain’t the answer! I see us drafting a QB in round 4 or 5… Kellen Moore or Weeden if lasts that long.

  • anthony33

Would love to know what’s going on in the head of Dennis Allen right now…

  • Hansen

AND he kicked butt during the Mos Eisley bar fight!

  • King

Manning didn’t win that ring on his own.  Just as Tebow didn’t win on his own.

That’s basically what you said above.  See your hypocrisy ?

  • kerrry

fair weather? hahaha. because i didnt sit here day in and day out, slobbering over the mediocrity you call greatness in Tim Tebow makes me fair weather? PPFFTTT. not even close. see i know the difference between rooting for a team and rooting for a single player, which you clearly dont. with that being said we had to dumb down the offense and at first defenses werent ready for the totally awesome spread option offense which eventually got shut down like all other gimmicks like the wildcat and the pistol offense. and Tebow held the offense back. yeah thats right held it back with his inablity to make reads and complete passes when needed. and if Tebow was SO great, why is NO team clamoring for his services yet many teams wanted Manning?

  • Anonymous

That just put a huge smile on my face, thanks!

  • kerrry

true but The Colts never would have won it with Tebow at the helm. Tebow will NEVER be a 4 time MVP or throw 50 TD passes. the offense is held back by Tebow but will thrive with Manning. you know a QB that can actually throw the ball and make reads. i mean a QB who isnt a project…………how is this bad?? seriously. Manning has just as much work ethic and commitment as Tebow does. the difference is Manning doesnt need a dumbed down offense and can throw the ball with regularity.

  • Anonymous

LOL. Great question. If he is playing for free can we slide his paycheck into cap money for a couple free agents? LOL

  • Anonymous

He can wear #15. It’ll be available.

  • Anonymous

Mays isn’t the answer but serviceable, so I’m OK with him resigning. I think the starting job is Nate Irving’s to lose at this point. Franklin wasn’t the best pass block on the line but he’ll be OK. Our O-Line is better than anything PM had in Indy (except for Jeff Saturday).

  • Anonymous

He may as well have done it on his own. Did you see what the Colts did without Manning playing? Ugly.

  • colorancher

Manning is neither Joe Montana or Brett Favre. I know he has completed 64% of his passes in his career. He is better than Tebow and that makes the team better.

  • dbroncs24/7

First off I was rooting for the team, since he was our quarterback that means rooting for him. I don’t care what you label the offense the bottom line is we won a playoff game for the first time in years. I never said Tebow was great, but there are 5 teams that are already interested, as usual you shoot your mouth off without any facts.

Peyton Manning may be Elway’s messiah but this fan of more
than 50 years is changing her blue and orange for whatever color Tim Tebow will
be wearing.  The surge in fans since
Tebow joined was no accident.  That young
man has a worldwide following and we will follow him anywhere.  I loathe the Raiders but if Tebow goes west –
I’ll be wearing black and silver.  I
truly regret no longer being a Bronco fan.
Such a shame, guess Elway forget he was a rookie once and someone gave
him a chance.  Go “crush” some oranges
    Elway!
