Orlando Franklin — Denver Broncos BT Profile

College: Miami (Fl.)

Orlando Franklin was selected in the second round (45th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos after a decorated collegiate career in Miami.  Starting in all sixteen games last season, Franklin helped send running back Willis McGahee to the Pro Bowl after Denver’s offensive line helped the Broncos rush for a franchise record 2,632 yards on the ground.  Franklin proved to be a run-blocking machine but struggled at times in pass protection.

2011 Analysis: Franklin started in all sixteen games and blocked particularly well on running downs, but allowed eight sacks and was penalized five times on passing plays.  Overall, Franklin played well for a rookie.

Contract Status: Signed through 2014; Free agent 2015.

2012 Outlook:  Franklin will be the returning right tackle next season across from Ryan Clady on Denver’s offensive line.  With great size and smarts, Franklin has the potential to stick around in Denver for a long time.

    I love me some Orlando Franklin.
    Man, the sky is the limit for this guy. I have no doubts in my mind that if teams had a crystal ball to see how he’d do his rookie year with no offseason, he would have been taken in the 1st round.

     I disagree with him being first round pick worthy, I think he was at the perfect value in the second round  He is a heck of a run blocker, but he is still really slow to get out of his stance on passing plays.    I think he would be better suited playing guard where he doesn’t have to worry about someone blowing past him.  Zane Beadles did play tackle in college (left tackle though) and it would be interesting to see if he could be a better pass blocker than Franklin.  It would also be interesting to see Clady and Franklin run blocking next to each other.

    Good point Jim, his slow feet show up time and again on film and certainly from his college film.  I like his run blocking because he is fierce, however, the statement saying he is “smart”…c’mon, he went to Miami, the Ivy League of illiteracy.
