Tim Tebow v Kansas City Chiefs

If at first you don’t succeed, run, run again.

That’s the Denver Broncos‘ new offensive philosophy with QB Tim Tebow at the helm.

The Denver Broncos are going to run the football on first down. They’re going to run it on second down. They’re going to run it on third down. They’re going to run it eight straight times to open the game with a touchdown, and they’re going to keep running it until they’re utterly convinced their opponent can stop them.

And if the last two games are any indication, teams haven’t been able to stop them.

It had been four full quarters of football — the middle of the third quarter in Oakland to late in the third quarter today in Kansas City — since the Broncos and Tim Tebow had even completed a pass, but it didn’t matter. The Broncos lost both of their starting running backs Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno in the first quarter, but it didn’t matter. They ran the football down the Chiefs’ throats, gaining 244 en route to a rare 17-10 Arrowhead victory in Week 10 NFL action.

The Broncos’ defense was dominant in pursuit of QB Matt Cassel, who was sacked twice and hurried on at least a half dozen other occasions. The Chiefs were held without points until the third quarter.

Only at one point was the game beginning to look grim for the Broncos. Up 10-7 in the third quarter, the Broncos’ running game had finally slowed, and the passing game was non-existent. Tebow had completed only one pass out of six attempts. The momentum was in Kansas City’s favor.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Tebow launched a perfectly thrown football to Eric Decker 56 yards downfield. Decker caught the pass in stride for a Broncos touchdown.

It was as if three quarters of running had all setup that one beautiful Tebow pass. “We’ve got ’em right where we want ’em.

With the win, the Broncos (4-5) enter a three-way tie in the AFC West for second place, behind only one game to the Oakland Raiders (5-4).

This was another solid team win by the Broncos. They played smart, mostly-penalty-free football. The defense was fantastic, particularly Ryan McBean and Chris Harris. The offensive line did a huge job blocking and sealing up the likes of Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson. They never got into unmanageable 3rd and long’s. Just a great win by what is becoming a good team. Onto the New York Jets on Thursday night.

fox has to love this.  i am pretty sure he hates the forward pass altogether anyway.  we’re piling up the yards on the ground which is what his teams have always done, and what he loves to see from his offense.  the way we’re doing it isn’t exactly traditional, but so far it’s been effective.  hell, we plugged in the third string back and he still rushed for 96 yards.  yesterday was the ideal foxball score… take a 10 point lead into the last 5 min of a game, grind it out, and come out with the win.

since we put this offense in in earnest, against oakland, it has been effective.  i am one to believe in the fact that when something works, stick with it until someone can consistently stop it.  our defense has to play well in order for it to work.  we do need tebow to have a higher completion percentage to help in play action.  we are also going to have to go to no huddle against better defenses to keep them from rotating in fresh linemen.

the jets come in with a pretty good defense, but a shaky offense.  they gave up 5 sacks and 2 int’s against the patriots- who have a way worse defense than us.  and they were at home.  new england isnt a great running team, but they were held to 2.1 yds per carry.  it’s a winnable game at home, especially with the jets coming off a pounding.

3-1–this is the NFL…  And if I recall the Raiders and Chiefs had better records than us.  Crawl back under your rock and do something useful like examine your own navel, because the irrational hate doesn’t play here!

  • Anonymous

Maybe thats what it means to you!!! Talk about incriminating your self…lol. Your one of those that are around when they win calling names when some one talks reality, never here with the same BS when they loose. But at least you give me a good laugh.

  • Anonymous

Gotcha Trog… If nothing else I for sure like the way everyone has come together a bit. Thing that has me a tad edgy is that it can all fall apart as quick as it came together. After that first loss with TT the locker room was ready to fold (or so it was said in the media) but its far from that now and thats great…

Why not put Orton back in?  Aside from the fact that you and the rest were blaming everything on Orton and when Tebow proves he cannot throw in the NFL your blaming the rest of the team and apologizing because the front office and coaching staff don’t want your messiah to be successful.

  • Anonymous

Did I or have “I” ever said they should throw it 50 times. Like how you read into things or put words in others mouth. Do you really think that they 100% game planned it to happen like that? The game plan was to run the ball and stick to it, that I for sure give you, but I promise you that had you asked them BEFORE the game if they could complete 2 passes and win Mikie would have him self said no, or at best you’d gotten a “maybe”. And I’d bet they didn’t go into it knowing that they would only “try” to throw a low 8 times… It panned out that way.

What panned out was what we could do and what they couldnt… Calling your game plan and calling what is presented in front of you isn’t always what happens.

None-the-less it came out a win and that is awesome. Just as is the discussion about it is. The “freekin kidding” me part was said with much humor intended so if you didn’t read it that way and were in-fact offended I apologize as that was not intended.

Your statement as well as your lack of spelling abilities show your immaturity, but you are a good for a laugh any way. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love it when people show their ignorance here…lol.

Oh and NO, I’m not laughing with you…lol.

Good post… They probably did for this last game! They just didn’t seem to need it. Even with a some-what weak run D as the Jets have they are still way better than the Chefs so there prolly will be a bit more pass attempts.

The Jets are ranked 15th (Broncos 16th) so thats not real weak and not great either, middle of the pack is a fair bit better than the Chefs at 25th.

  • Anonymous

    Hater!!!!

  • Anonymous

The Jets run defense is far better than the chefs or the fakers.

  • Anonymous

I think they’ve already gotten the meds.

  • Anonymous

    Twice!

  • Anonymous

It was the Tebow game plan.  Fox and McCoy “figured” out exactly what Tebow is capable of doing.
If Tebow was an NFL caliber QB the chefs would have been blown out at home.

  • Anonymous

Why do you cultists always refer back to terms like “leader” when you are forced to avoid the obvious.  Tebow was exposed against the Lions and had Fox and McCoy not given up on Tebow being able to throw the ball he would have been further exposed by the fakers.

  • flbronc

the only thing i would amend in your statement, is NFL caliber ‘passer’.  he’s got everything down except for that… (kinda a big part of the package though)

  • Anonymous

    Good post fl!

The Pats are weak against the pass ranked dead last but are ranked 8th against the run, so prolly good we are not playing them…lol. We don’t have to worry about them for a few more weeks.

The Jets are 15th against the run and 8th against the pass with an over all 8th place ranking (weird I know but true). I don’t think their D is a push over but for sure not impenetrable either.

Offensively they are 20th passing, 23rd rushing and 22nd overall. We (the Broncos ;-)) are 2nd to last passing (31st), 3rd rushing and 21st over all. So while “shaky” They are right there with us overall. However I like your thoughts on the Jets coming off a pounding and agree its a very winnable game. I think its a better match up for us than some think as well!

With the rest of the schedule not super easy and not super hard it doesn’t look as bleak as it did earlier in the year for sure. We have some tough games coming up but at least we get the Bears and Pats at home.

  • anthony33

My only point is at least they are smart enough to change direction and are figuring out how to win with the current situation.  Best the heck out of 13 sacks in the first two starts.

Can they do it long term? How knows.  My guess is if they really had to balls to committ to it, which I don’t think they (or anyone else in the NFL) will, then yes, I think it could work.

Can you imagine a LaMichael James back there running with this group??

  • Anonymous

What limited chances?  The Broncos had the ball for close to 7 minutes longer than the chefs.  Or maybe you’re referring to the reality that Tebow cannot throw at the NFL level.

  • Anonymous

    Awesome!!! lmao

  • Anonymous

    The rest of the year…lol.

  • Anonymous

    I agree!

Shoot I can imagine a number of guys back there ;-). I love running the ball. When I coached I always said that if I could Rush an entire game and win with out passing I’d do it over and over again. I just don’t think it can work in the NFL consistantly. But I’ll tell you for sure that is the closest I’ve ever seen and was seriously laughing at how the Chefs were stacking 8 in there and cheating another and still couldn’t stop it. I was astounded at that for sure…

  • Anonymous

Completely giving up on the passing game doesn’t do Tebow any favors down the road.   Sure, you can get a few wins here and there against bad teams like Miami and KC or against teams that are insanely undisciplined and stupid like oakland, but I dont see this working out long term.  The real test is Thu.

  • jagbronc

Great points.  Football is the ultimate team game.  One person can’t win by himself, it takes a team.  The bronco are playing as a team, if they can stay that way, they can go far.

  • Anonymous

I can see where you are coming from with a lot of your points.  But I think a lot of people here are just tired of yours and other commenters pessimistic views.  I  do not understand why people think that this offense will not work out the kinks with the passing game.  Our offense could not run in the beginning of the year and look at them now.  I think the passing game will continue to get better throughout the year.
Tebow is a young QB who did not have many 1st team snaps to start off the year.  You can diss his mechanics and his accuracy all you want, but this kid has proven to the college football world that he can throw.  I already know you are going to say “the NFL aint the same as college” which I agree.  My point is that in college, Tebow has show he can throw the ball accurately, he just needs more time to figure out the NFL game.  This team has good WR’s, the o-line is giving Tebow time to throw now, and now he just needs a gameplan that reflects his strengths as a passer.  For you to give up all hope in Tebow to ever be a great QB says something about your outlook in humanity.  You must think that people are unable to change or grow into better people.

Just for the record, I am not a Tebow jock sniffer.  I was not a fan of his in college, was not pleased they drafted him in the first, and I am not a Christian.  So even though I have no affiliation with this young man, I have  seen something in him that gives me hope for my team…the Denver Broncos.  I’m not saying you should join the Tebow bandwagon, and start start planning for the playoffs, but maybe you could stop pissing on the dreams of people who have nothing else to hope for right now.  Doom is a good name for you, cause you bring it

  • King

Don’t you mean, “pathetic” and not “pathedic”.  lmao

  • King

Tebow wasn’t exposed.  Our O-line was exposed, again.  They are playing harder the last few games.

A blind man can see that.

  • King

Making excuses for Oakland?  Really?  I’ve heard it all now, rock.

What makes Ortonites like you angry is knowing our record would be 2-7 right now with Orton starting.  Or worse.

  • kerry

um no no a Jets a fan. just of a fan of reality. for some reason that realm doesnt exsist here.

  • kerry

yes against the Chiefs in the worst division in football. talk to me if we beat the Jets and Patriots. think we will win with 2 completions?

  • Anonymous

How exactly is calling oakland stupid and undiscplined “making excuses for them”?  Explain that.

  • kerry

did more in what limited chances? completed two passes?? are you kidding me? hell Orton could have completed more. and really Tebow doesnt “just find a way to win” we won DESPITE him, not because of him.  and if you really think this read option offense grabage is gonna work towards a SB win then you need serious mental help. there is a reason why the option offense isnt run by ANYONE in the NFL. because it doesnt work. you seriously think that a QB like Tebow is so good when a coach has to dumb down and simplify the offense so he can have some chance to play?! you should have a little more sense then that.

a nobody named John Skelton who didnt win the Hesiman and wasnt drafted in the first round had a better day then Tebow did. a dumbed down college offense will NEVER work for a SB title. running the ball 55 times and completeing 2 passes wont win a SB. Tebow has NOT improved but regressed and his coaches has to dial back his pass attempts knowing full well he cant complete passes when needed. see i wanna see another SB title in Denver, i dont support a player because i think he will “be fine” or because he is a nice guy or a good christian. if a guy cant get the job done then he has to go and Tebow isnt getting the job done. beating 3 lousy teams while having to dumb down your offense isnt a SB recipe. you think Elway was so happy Tebow completed 2 passes yesterday despite the fact we won?? hahahahaha. I dont think so. Elway looked almost dead with boredom and exasperation in seeing Tebow not getting better. and dont worry, i dont despair, because unless we make the playoffs and win the SB, Tebow wont be the starter next year. Elway isnt gonna suffer this option gimmick shit for another year, especially when there is a good crop of QB’s coming out who play in a pro-style offense.

  • kerry

Really? i didnt realize i had to blindlly support one player in order to be a fan.

  • Anonymous

Ha ha.  I love grammar mistakes in comments pointing out other people’s grammar mistakes.

  • kerry

yeah that same San Diego we lost to. so whats your point? and the Raiders are leading by default. nobody in this division is any good. kinda like the NFC west of last year.

  • kerry

neither doesnt irrational blindness. oh wait yeah it does!

  • kerry

oh your hypocrisy is showing. Tebow does bad and its all the O-lines fault. Orotn does bad and its because Orton is a bum? yep its showing alright.

  • kerry

so then answer me this Tebowite, if our record at the end of the year is 6-10 with Tebow finishing the season, then whats the difference if it had been 6-10 with Orton finishing the season? do we get the Lombardi trophy for finishing 6-10 with Tebow VS Orton or even Brady Quinn? do we suddenly win the SB because Tebow finishes the season and not Orton? got an answer?

let me help you, the answer is nothing. there is no difference. only a higher draft pick.

It doesn’t exist inside that guy’s head, that’s for sure.

He only hears what he wants to hear or what supports his TT worship.

  • Anonymous

    Now you’re on the trolley!

  • Anonymous

You have a bad habit of reading people wrong… Do you assimilate anything as you read? Perhaps a few re-reads before you respond…lol.

  • Anonymous

Dude you seriously need a hug! lol

  • King

Nice try.  Even King and Florio have mentioned the entire team is playing harder the last few games.

  • King

Think about it.  We have already won the same amount of games that we did ALL LAST SEASON !  With essentially a rookie QB.  This is what you Ortonites can’t deal with.

No one is saying we’re good enough to win a SB this year.  But we are an improved team with Tebow on the field.

You guys are so full of hatred for the man (even though you would never admit it) that you can’t even see the facts.  Numbers (W-L) don’t lie.  lmao

  • King

Follow your own advice, perhaps?  ;)

  • Anonymous

    You’re funny…lol.

  • Anonymous

You do realize don’t you that Tebow is making this running game possible? Without the threat of him taking off when there is a blitz or when the defense is too focused on the RB, the running game wouldn’t be having near as much success.

  • Anonymous

Personally, I liked the game plan. How PO’d must Chef fans be after watching their team get smashmouthed again and again and again, then look up at the final scoreboard and see that you lost when your opponent only completed 2 passes? They couldn’t stop it even though they knew it was coming. Top 2 RBs go out, they still can’t stop it. What a way to stick it to a divisional rival! I’d love to see the Statics taken down the same exact way in 2 weeks!

  • Anonymous

    GOSPEL!

  • King

I hope you’re not talking about Luck.  Saw him play for the first time against the Ducks this past weekend.  He looked bad.

If he were in the SEC, he would be lost.

  • King

I made a punctuation mistake, not a grammar mistake.  ;)
