Franklin, McGahee and Clady

Ladies and gentlemen, your newest Denver Broncos wide receiver: Tim Tebow.

Seriously. The backup QB took several snaps lined up wide Sunday as the Broncos were forced to get creative to deal with a seemingly insurmountable number of injuries.

But they surmounted it (is that a word?).

Brandon Lloyd and Demaryius Thomas were ruled out before kickoff (along with three other Broncos starters), and Eddie Royal went down in the first quarter, leaving the Broncos with only Eric Decker and Matthew Willis at receiver.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. The running game carried the offense, with Willis McGahee eclipsing 100 yards rushing. But the defense won the game. The Cincinnati Bengals had two late fourth quarter drives to make their needed game-winning field goal.

The defense held when it mattered. Jonathan Wilhite and Robert Ayers registered the crucial sack and QB pressure respectively, and the Broncos fought through adversity. The Broncos won. They move to 1-1.

Think about it — months removed from the Josh McDaniels‘ pass-happy era, a running game and defense carried the Broncos to victory. Nice gritty win by the Broncos. Now get healthy and get ready for Tennessee!

    Loved the intense gritty defensive win, but it is so sad to see the normally vaunted and feared Denver offense reduced to its current stature.  It hurts to admit that our offense is horrendous.  Kyle Orton is doing us more harm than good.  We can’t trust our first round pick who has a year to sit and watch…and the Bengal’s QB Dalton comes fresh out of college and rips us apart.  WoW!  Happy to see the Raiders and Chargers and Chiefs all bite the dust…especially the Raiders after last week’s debacle…and they lost it in the last seconds…against Buffalo!  We could be in it this year.  Start Tebow already and let’s get some excitement back in this drab offense…

    IM still not not content with the win db’s looked horrible letting two rookies tear us apart! I also got a good laugh seeing tebow come out at wr my wife and I had the WTF face on haha! Other then that McGee looked great and I think ball is ready for some more carries. Good win broncs on to the next game!!!!

    Gutsy win.  Ran the ball effectively and stopped the run effectively.  Didn’t think I’d ever be saying that!  Looked an awful lot like a Dan Reeves team didn’t it?

    Overall the offense was okay, nothing special and did you notice how Fox basically put it on the defense to win the game by not allowing Orton the chance to do something stupid when it’s first and twenty on you own ten.  Defense stepped up big time.

    Last couple of Ciny drives aside, defensive backfield looked COMPLETELY lost.  A rookie QB put 350, mostly with quick throws.  Goodman is a liability… period.  Vaughn was schooled a bit too, but was at least on the reciever when the ball came his way.  Miller showed flashes, but really couldn’t tell if he had a good or bad game.  Ayers made a couple of nice plays.

    Prater and Colquitt are flat out solid!!

    Not going to talk about the QB play.

    The “Mile High Salute” is back.

    Good karma for a team that needs an homage to the stronger days of the past, and a small step toward the return of Bronco Pride that has too long been absent.  Only a small step, but forward.

    “Orton made us lose.”  “Orton didn’t do enough in the win.”  Seems like the Tebow crowd just can’t find a positive word regardless of the outcome.  Did you notice the receiver situation out there today?  It was unimaginable!  But as long as Orton has to compete against the imaginary game that Tebow might have had, I guess Orton will consistently be a loser for you folks.  Me, I’m enjoying the W, especially given the adverse conditions.  Oh, and by the way, Dalton happens to be good.

  • Vincemarine78

    I think this was a good and much needed win for the Broncos!!!  Agree with most on here.

    1.  DB’s were aweful!  Goodman looks like he could care less about being out there.  I’d like to see Wilhite play over Goodman or Vaughn.

    2.  Orton didn’t play a bad game considering the circumstances.  The O-line is still shaky, and the lack of WR’s.

    3.  I think this game should be a wake up call for the coaches and front office in regards to Moreno.  He is a 3rd down back at best.  There is a lot he wouldn’t have been able to do that McGhaee did today.  Ball and Willis need to be getting the majority of the carries.

    4.  Glad to see the defense come alive when needed.  Much better game from the front four and LB’s, especially Mays.  That guy put some hits on people today!

    GO BRONCOS!

  • Troyn

    Yeah, Dalton is good, Green is very good.  Orton is not good.  The Denver team is mediocre at best.  This game is about winning Superbowls.  KO will not get us there.  Tebow has enough intangibles that he eventually might.  However, until we see him have a chance, we won’t know.  I am enjoying the w, I just want more than a win against the Bungles…

    Amen! *Salute!*

  • Bryansniezek

    While the MaGahee/Ball combo wasn’t dominant, it was more than we’ve ever gotten out of (and will likely ever get from) Moreno. I think his playing time will take a gigantic hit, and can be used only to give Willis or Lance a breather.

    It was awesome to see Tebow on the field..even as a receiver, doing anything he can to help his team. Big up’s Tim!

    Goodman got picked on all day and showed he is a big weakness. Granted, AJ Green is a stud but Goodman and Vaughn really hurt our secondary.

    We gave Cincy way to many chances and they hung around all day and it almost came back to bite us in the rear. In the end its a win, but this game should have been over at half time.

  • Wadezombie

    Your right, Orton has consistantly been a loser! even against Tebow, and always will be.  The broncos love orton so much they almost traded him.  Why play the guy that could be the future?  Oh yeah, Fox is a winner.

  • TedHankey

    I think the final snap of the game shows how much Orton cares and how much he wants to be there. Kneeoed down and ran straight for the locker. didnt even celebrate with his team mates. We may as well give tebow a shot and see if he is any good. Not much point losing 10 or 11 games with orton at qb…total waste of a season. He doesnt want to be here and doesnt care.

  • Anonymous

    Great point.  He wanted a trade in the off season, is a free agent after this year and has said he dosen’t give a flip what the fans think.

    Give someone that was drafted a Bronco, wants to be a Bronco and cares.

    With a chance to put the game a way on two separate drives, Orton failed to get a single first down (Not even counting his very last drive because of the penalty). Thank god it didn’t come down to Cincy leading by a single point with 2 minutes left because it would have been an automatic L.

    Sorry, it’s hard to be enthusiastic about a win when you BARELY squeek by a rookie QB and WR and can’t keep your defense off the field in the 4th quarter.

    1-15 till we ain’t. haha

    The safeties played great covering for terrible corner play.  Vaughn is nowhere near start quality.  This game wouldn’t have been close with Champ playing, I have no doubt.

  • bostonianbronco

    I tried hard to not expect the worst from Kyle. But he does continue to choke away opportunities to put games away. When the bengals scored in the third and cut the broncos lead, I said to my wife, you will probably see orton throw a pick here: instead he got hit fumbled the ball.

    I found myself more nervous when the offense was on the field then the defense. And I agree.. Orton (and the offense) put the defense in some bad situations, again

    The coaching staff held Miller out when we were up by 9 and Cincy had to start throwing.  I was frustrated like no other.  He got hurt on the following series then came back and made his sack.  He’s played better this week, but it’s too easy for them to roll coverage his way with Dumervil out.  I think this will change when we have D.J. back and can use him to blitz as well.

    Yeah… Wasn’t pretty, but I guess a win is a win.  I pretty much have the same complaints that a lot of people on here have.  I don’t see us winning too many games this yr.

    @TN – Loss (I could see them maybe winning, but I don’t think so)
    @GB – Loss
    SD – Loss
    @MIA – Loss
    DET – Loss
    @OAK – Loss
    @KC – Win (I see us winning, but who knows in KC)
    NYJ – Loss
    @SD – Loss
    @MIN – Loss
    CHI – Loss
     NE – Loss
    @BUF – Loss
    KC – Win

    So that leaves us with a 3-13 mark.  Worse than last year.  I can see us maybe pulling out a few more wins again TEN, MIA or MIN (maybe BUF), but not too much else.  Just my thought. I hope I am wrong.

    Orton Is A Good QB But NOT FOR THE DENVER BRONCOS!!! WE GOT TEBOW AND QUINN ON THE BENCH THEY ARE GONNA BE OUR FRANCHISE SO WE MIGHT AS WELL START IT NOW AND GET A RING FOR ELWAY AND FOX AND OUR dEFENSE THAT FIGHTS EXTRA HARD OUT THERE BECAUSE OF ACCIDENTAL FUMBLES AND INT.S AND NOT BEING ABLE TO SHAKE A SACK IN CRUCIAL DOWNS FROM ORTON FOR YEARS NOW LISTEN TO THE FANS ON THIS ONE STRAIGHT UP WE GOT OUT MISSING PIECE ON THE BENCH!!! I MEAN COME ON TEBOW IS PLAYING AS A RECIEVER FOR YOU GUYS OUTTA EVERYONE ELSE ON THE BENCH THAT SHOULd TELL YOU SOMETHING HE S ATHLETIC AND CAN MAKE ANYTHING HAPPEN AT ANYTIME NO ONE KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN AND THATS REAL FOOTBALL RIGHT WE GOT THE PIECES TO WIN!!!

  • dougindenver

    Come on folks. Isn’t anyone paying attention to the WHOLE offensive line? T-bow mania has blindsighted most of you.. Real problem ain’t Orton..it’s that
    we have a very inconsistent bunch of receivers! Plus, a questionable running game! That’s it. Period. The first two games of the season looked like repeats from last year.  We need some consistency with this offense … doesn’t look like we have the necessary horses to pull it off.

    BTW, if you owned this multi-million dollar franchise would you turn it over to a unproven  23 year old? Why do ya think Fox continues with KO, and puts Timbo in as wide receiver?

  • Kellyleephipps

    After the eventual losses stack up, Tebow will get his chance.  Orton is done after the season.  His play makes me sick.  I find myself wanting him to choke so Tebow or Quinn can finally play.  We all know what will happen when Orton gets in a high pressure playoff game…Denver fans don;t need that sinking dagger in the heart feeling.  He is done…he is an imposter on our offense, a poser ready to fail when the game is on the line.  It will be a great day when he is traded, cut, contract expires whatever…then we will begin our meteoric rise…again!

  • Anonymous

    Who cares about Tebow? I’d rather have Ryan Leaf in as QB right now then Orton. Give Quinn a shot. Give Adam Weber a shot. Anyone!!!

  • Nisse

    would tebow care if the fans didnt like him? i dont think so, he aswell as orton only cares what the ppl in the lockerroom think

    Woof

  • King

    I agree.  That type of behavior make me sick.  One of my friends in the room told me, “he thinks he won the Super Bowl!” the way he ran off the field.
