Sports Authority Field at Mile High sign

Crews on Tuesday put up the remaining letters of the stadium name on the south side of Sports Authority Field at Mile High. An official unveiling is tentatively planned for Thursday, in time for the Denver Broncos' first regular-season game on Monday, against the Oakland Raiders. (Helen H. Richardson, The Denver Post)

Red? At Mile High Stadium? Not in this lifetime.

Luckily, the folks at Mile High Stadium’s new corporate namesake agree. Sports Authority listened to Broncos fans’ initial reactions to their red sign and have adjusted accordingly. A more appropriate blue and orange sign (pictured right) will be unofficially unveiled Thursday, days before the Broncos’ regular season opener on Monday Night Football against the rival Raiders.

“The signage we put up we didn’t like,” a company spokesperson told KDVR last week. “We’re fans, too. We’ll put up a new sign next week that’s more representative with the stadium.”

Meanwhile, we’ve heard that the Sports Authority red has been appearing prominently in other places around the stadium. Not sure if this is true, but if it is, we’d encourage Sports Authority to just accept the fact that Broncos fans don’t see red in Mile High Stadium. They’d be better off just changing their corporate color to orange in the 80204 zip code.

Broncos’ Stadium Gets Proper Welcome Mat [Predominantly Orange]

    Still looks red to me…

I saw plenty of red during the Raiders game last year.   Of course that was the aneurysm I had when we went down by 30 pts.

I remember years ago in the very early days of the orange crush they had red pants.  If you can find the book Barely Audible there are a few photos.

I’m not in Denver or I would. If they changed this maybe they’ll change more?

Would really love local fans to give us the scoop on this throughout the season. Thanks for this.

Totally red on all for quadrants of the stadium.  Each section is twice as big as the lame temp sign they put on the east face.  Sad.

g’rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I’m never going to shop at Sports Authority again until they fix this. It is not acceptable.   Boycot Sports Authority, Boycott Sports Authority, Boycot Sports Authority, Boycot Sports Authority, Boycot Sports Authority, Boycot Sports Authority, Boycot Sports Authority, Boycot Sports Authority, Boycot Sports Authority,

This is ridiculous, I am David Campisi, Presedent and CEO of Sports Authority.  I am a real Broncos football fan just like all of you. When I’m not playing golf or flying in my leer jet, I can be found cheering my patooty off every time the Broncos get a homerun.  I bleed blue and red just like all of you.  So please do not support the boycott, instead why don’t you all come into our stores and purchase some of our fine Broncos apparel.  As a olive branch to everyone on the site, I am going to offer 5% off on all Brandon Marshall officially licensed memorabilia.   Just tell the clerk Mr. Campisi said it was cool

Seriously, can we please stop this era of selling the name to the highest bidder? There was absolutely nothing wrong with Mile High.

  • anthony33

If these signs are truly red, and it looks like they are, they should be boycotted.

I mean seriously… how stupid can you be.  You have a chance to do the logical smart thing and you make the signs RED.  Heysus Kristo.

Lol people will bitch about ANYTHING these days. Hmm I may be going out on a limb by saying this, but I believe Sports Authority put red signs up (at least for the aerial view) because their company colors are RED (go fuggin figure right??). If Taco Bell bought a stadium’s naming rights, I’m sure their signs would be Purple, Pink, and Yellow. At least the main sign (most visible sign at Mile High) are Broncos colors.

I’m going to wait for the next big thing for people to complain about and I’m willing to bet this will blow over.

  • John

Why is the grass at Mile High GREEN!!!???? This isn’t Broncos colors!!! That’s it I’m boycotting the grass at Mile High. Unacceptable and now my whole days ruined.

Let’s just rename the team the Sports Authority Broncos and let them pay the bills while we’re at it.

Makes you wonder if the Boise State Broncos came to that same conclusion a few years back…
