It looks like Brady Quinn has established himself as the No. 2 quarterback in Denver.

Reports out of Denver indicate Monday’s practice was as clear an indicator as any that the Broncos will be looking for Quinn to backup Kyle Orton, and not Tim Tebow. Quinn’s depth chart shuffle with Tebow that occurred nine days ago, initially announced as a temporary shift, will become permanent once the Broncos release their regular season depth chart next week.

That being said, Tebow continues to get more work as the Broncos develop and evaluate the quarterback. It’s even possible that Tebow will get more snaps than Quinn again Thursday in Arizona as the Broncos continue to evaluate the controversial Florida product.

They seem to know what they have in Quinn.

Quinn’s transformation this offseason has been remarkable; the first round draft pick has looked better than at any other time in his young career. Rather than piling on Tebow we’ll give credit to the hard work and effort Quinn put in this offseason; he’s earned his status in Denver. For Tebow, there’s always next year.

Broncos’ Brady Quinn now clearly Denver’s No. 2 QB, but to what end? [Denver Post]

[UPDATE 08/30/2011 10:51 a.m.] The title of this post was changed from “Brady Quinn locks up No. 2 QB Spot.”

They're trying to boost Quinn's trade value. Moving on..

  • jdkchem

He is in the last year of his contract.  Who is going to give anything up when he can be had when the season is over?

  • King

Yep.  And just how is Tebow, “controversial.”

Looks to me like the media has created that false description of the man.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Tebow himself is not controversial, but controversy about whether he can play in the NFL surrounds the guy. All I meant.

  • Troyn

Has anyone really seen anything from Quinn, that makes you say wow?  For that matter Orton?  Tebow is a project, but the only one of the three with through the roof potential.  I'm an ND fan and really like Brady, but his best game in the pros was his first start against a bad Bronco's D and he still lost.  Really sick of the Tebow criticism that is not based in fact.  Want to judge the kid, judge him between the lines, not for being a good person that makes you feel guilty about how you live your life. CC. Hoge, Boomer, Beuerlein, et al.

Broncs aren't gonna win with Orton or Quinn, unless Fox is the greatest coach in history, everybody knows it. The games will be closer with improved O & D but this is a brutal schedule year.
2-14 maybe 3-13 unless TT plays, then all bets are off.

  • anthony33

    Hummm… something to think about.

    What if:
Tebow is a bust (hope not, but not exactly looking good at the moment)
Orton moves on in free agency (wanted out this year)
Quinn moves on if free agency (Still missing the something)

I am going to watch a lot of college QB's this year.

  • broncodecker87

No big surprise.  Quinn is the second best QB on the team.  The thing most controversial about TT is his mind numbing fans that wont admit that he is not ready to be a starting QB in the NFL.  Keep him on the bench and hope for the best.  Looking forward to seeing BQ on Thursday.  Think EFX will sign either KO or BQ by midseason.

  • WhidbeyBronco

Not to hijack this thread but why isn't anybody talking about Baily moving to safety?

    http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwes

  • dbroncs24/7

…because he isn't, he's playing nickel on third downs

  • WhidbeyBronco

and second downs… With Vaughn matching up with opposing #1WRs?

I think I hate this move.

but i kind of love it….

Wanted this if we would have drafted Peterson or picked up a CB in FA

  • E Train

That is an awesome picture. Tebow standing on the sidelines just barely ahead of Weber, watching Quinn play. Welcome to the NFL Tebow.

  • http://thingsatrexdoes.tumblr.com Mike Birtwistle

From what I saw of the Bills game, Brady Quinn hasn't won the number 2 spot on the roster so much as Tim Tebow has handed it to him on a silver plate with a side of fries and a diet coke.

  • dbroncs24/7

Couldn't agree more, I like what I've seen from Vaughn but him covering # 1 receivers such as Bowe, Megatron, Vincent Jackson, etc. is a question mark. Hopefully he's up to it and the coach's confidence in him isn't a lost cause.

  • Rcsodak

Sureky youbmean the seattle game? Where TT couldn't run the offense, avoid sacks, hold onto the ball, hit open wr's, etc.
Take that catch/run by the rb away and yuck.

Now, that all said, and my postulating on TT=#3, he'll still have pkgs , just as last year.

  • jdkchem

So Tebow's poor play is because everybody feels guilty for something.  Glad you cleared that up.

  • jdkchem

Come on, you're just feeling guilty or something!

  • Troyn

Haven't seen the poor play you are referring to, jdkchem.  I was trying to explain the vitriol coming from detractors such as Hoge and Esiason.  Their opinions are irrational and not based in fact, so something else is going on.  Tebow looks much like any second year QB who played in a spread O in college.  He makes his share of mistakes, only difference is when things break down, he makes good things happen.  To me that is an all-important trait in a quality QB.  A trait that Orton and Quinn don't possess.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

It's when they're playing nickel. Mostly 3rd downs. It's been effective in the preseason so far. Bailey's gotten a few balls targeted at his receiver, and batted them down.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Those news photogs do a great job.

  • rottenappls

I couldn't agree with you more!

  • Kellyleephipps

Just played my first game of Madden 2012!  I started Tebow and he had a 77 yard pass against the Raiders to D. Thomas..LOL  Parrish Cox was the MVP due to an interception he took back to the house!  The defense had Nate Irving in the middle and they had 6 sacks!  Moreno ran for 148 yards and 2 TD's.  Final score 28-3!  LOL

  • Mop

What a bunch of Crap!  At least Tebow got the Broncos into a position to win last week and they won.  I like winning. Last year all of his stat's were better than the other young quarterbacks but (oh yea) they dont get counted because … hmm not sure
Let's let him play and run, he again is proving to be a winner.  If John Fox is not going to let him play and send him to a team that will. I want him to play in Denver but….  instant miracle i dont believe so but neither was Elway.

  • Danno

So when no scramble Orton gets his usual ankle injury by mid-season, Bubble-pass Quinn is going to be the answer? I don't feel it…That is when Tebow will get his next big chance.

  • Jackson3793

What poor play?  How many INTs has Tebow thrown this preseason?  Fumbles lost?  What's it QB rating?  Oh yeah, no INTs, no Fumbles, and a QB rating as good as (or better than) the other two.

Folks who are saying that Tebow can't play might as well say Quinn and Orton can't play either, because Tebow's doing just as good as either of them and the Broncos organization knows it.  They'll be happy to move along with any of them.

  • King

Tebow led the team down for the winning field goal.

In this league, a win is a win.  If only Orton could've learned that in his 7 years as a journeyman QB.

  • King

Just what I was thinking.  I also can't wait for Orton's first 'phantom sack' this year.

    Oh joy.

  • jdkchem

He's led drives totaling a whopping 9 points, (Make that a whopping 12 points) and no TD passes.  Sacked 5 times and his qb rating is not as good as Orton and only slightly better than Quinn who has not been sacked.  Both Orton and Quinn have thrown for 2 TD's.  And the no INT is solely due to a penalty.  He spent his summer making underwear and sports drink commercials and it shows.  There is not one good thing Tebow has made happen on the field in the pre-season, period.

  • jdkchem

He would not have had to “lead” the team down the field for a last second field goal if he had led the team down the field for more than 3 points the other 4 drives.

  • Colorado kuku

The media has made a story out of Tebow, he needs time to develope. He should have been a 3rd round 2nd late round at best, remember it was Josh McDaniels who reached for this pick giving away a 2nd 3rd and 4th and it was only one of his drafting disasters, he gave away lots of picks to move up to pick other players that would have been there if he just stayed put. Whats the hurry he needs time, Rodgers sat for three years in GB. And Tebows numbers aren't against starters.

  • Colorado kuku

Yeah cause Madden 2012 can predict the outcome of games. Cox won't even be on the finale roster. Try playing him against the Jets, GB,SD, Chi,MN,NE, even KC and Det. Tebow need time to develop, he should of been a 3rd round pick. I said it before GB 1st round pick sat for 3 years, how'd that work out?

  • dbroncs24/7

I have no question that Champ will lock down the slot, I'm just worried Qb's will look to test Vaughn bc of that. Like I said I hope he's up for it.

  • jdkchem

I have no problem with Tebow developing over time.  The problem is with the delusional worshipers who need to take a step back.   And Quinns numbers aren't against starters either.

  • jdkchem

The Broncos were already winning when Tebow took over the offense.

  • King

Thank you for confirming what I said.  A win is a win.

  • herc_rock

Still only hearing what you want to hear I see.

  • herc_rock

    No they aren't.

  • herc_rock

“…Tebow's doing just as good as either of them and the Broncos organization knows it.”

No he isn't.  If he was, he'd be starting.

  • herc_rock

    This again?  Really?

    Jealous hatorz!!!1!1

  • Troyn

Yeah, this again, I guess.  I honestly don't understand the irrational opinions directed at Tebow.  Say he's not ready yet, say he needs to sit behind a veteran, OK, those arguments have merit and can be discussed.   Say he can't play QB in the NFL and never will, say he can't throw, BS.  The only reason anyone would make such irrational arguments is they have some other issue with the kid, not related to how he's played.  I have never made an argument that wasn't based on what I've seen on the field, detractors such as Hoge and Esiason can't say that honestly.
