There’s more drama on the Broncos quarterback front.  According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins may still deal for Denver quarterback Kyle Orton.

Let me follow that good news with great news: Despite numerous believable national and local reports that Miami’s attempt to trade for Denver quarterback Kyle Orton is over, I am told exactly the opposite is true.

The Dolphins have not abandoned the possibility of getting Orton despite not really making progress in negotiations Thursday and apparently walking away from talks altogether early Friday. …

This negotiation has been a poker game and everyone is holding great cards while bluffing at the same time. It seemed like the Dolphins folded early Friday. So why has no one truly walked away from the table?

It’s not over.

Salguero went on to note that the reports stating Miami was no longer interested in Orton because they had acquired quarterback Matt Moore from Carolina mean nothing.  According to the Herald, the deal is not dead.

Now we play the wait and see game, stay tuned.

Yet another example of how the media wants to misconstrue or create drama when all we need is consistent leadership.  Get used to the fact that KO will be at the helm for another year till he jumps ship and we start this process all over again next season.

One can only hope this is true.

The better QB, CLEARLY, is Kyle. And this his 3rd yr, he shoould do even better.
Personally, more concern should be about the cap, the Dline and running game.

La Canfora reported this yesterday, saying it( signing the other qb) might just be a poker play. While I believe that Orton is the better QB short term, it seems that the team needs to ,move him  1: for cap room, 2: for an end to the drama and 3: they can't wait a year to see if TT can do the job.  I have to say that KO has handled this well at least publicly as has TT.   If the broncos can deal with this, there are worse things than having them both on the team.  The question for me would be is it worth winning a few more games with KO and starting over next year, or taking your chances with TT.
So much can be said about all this when I have so little information! I think it might be a bit harder if I had real $$$ involved.  I doubt they will cut KO now, or they would have done that before the $1.5 roster bonus.

Any one that thinks that Tebow is going to perform better then Orton this season is strait up delusional. The best news so far from FA is that Orton is staying at least one more year with us. With both of them on the field this team can score in many ways. Lets fix that D!

  • Gamesmasterz

Ortons not a winner…Tebow is.  I didnt like his team in college but no matter where he is he wins……Orton doesnt.  Hes a journeyman qb. period.

    bring marshall back to denver

if orton had a front line  like brady does in new england denver would be a force however, thats not the case. defence is a major concern again cant stop the run at all..  and corners are getting old also they get burned to much   another tough yr for the broncos im afraid

Based on what, Tebow's one win?  Ever read stats?

  • Ginodm67

Mountaindave:  The 1.5 million paid to KO counts against his maximum salary of close to 9 mil.  If we do trade KO to Miami or any other team we would be reimbursed the 1.5 mil by that team.  Michael Lombardi also believes we will eventually trade KO to Miami and that the Broncos/Dolphins are playing a game of Chicken.  Lombardi also states that the Dolphins need Orton more desperately than we need to get rid of him and that's why we see Orton taking 1st string snaps; to show Miami that we'll just keep him and they just play chicken with Dolphins' owner for their jobs.  Go to Miami's site and read the blogs from Dolphins fans from a few days ago-they are livid and fit to be tied they are so p.o'ed.  Let's have patience and see what happens.  I hope Lombardi is correct.

Orton is a good guy but not a great quarterback. Watch the replays of his 1st three games last season and count how many times the ball passed through the defenders hands from Kyle. Tebow is the future and deserves his shot now. If we have an 8 – 8 season It will be a successful season. If Tebow is the QB that's frosting on that cake.

  • King

Yep, and what doesn't show up in the stats is that Orton is a choke factory when games are on the line.

“There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.

If you think Orton will perform well for Denver at all, you're delusional.  The dude is a practice stud, but folds under pressure.  I'm surprised Miami really wants him, but I hope they take him.  Denver could use the cap space and getting SOMETHING out of him other than pathetic performances would be nice.  They sure won't get anything from Orton when he becomes a free agent in 2012, might as well grab while the grabbin's good for all parties.  Tebow, on the other hand, seems to perform better under pressure (thus the better game performance than practice performance) … it's not like the Broncos are even thinking postseason this year.  Might as well get a real evaluation of Tim while the team rebuilds.

  • Jackson3793

You mean the same stats that show that Tebow is a lot harder to sack, only a little less accurate than Orton, and has a better win-loss ratio (1-2 > 3-10).  Oh, and the stat that counts the most, getting into the red zone … Orton hasn't had much success with that last one considering how much he's been “the guy.”  Besides, his yardage is way overblown because Denver had no running game and the defense got worn out every game because they were on the field for 40 minutes … so of course the Broncos would be pass-happy, and yeah, Orton could move it between the 20s, but cap a drive off?  A rare thing for him.  Stupid padded stats are what has Orton thinking he's worth Manning / Brady / Brees money now and why it's so damn hard to trade him …

  • Jackson3793

I'd be pissed off too if my team just signed Matt Moore.  It's a game of chicken all right, and hopefully both sides come to their senses soon and realize that it's in everyone's best interests to get a deal done sooner rather than later.  Orton taking first team snaps in Denver doesn't help him adapt to playing for Miami, nor does it help Denver make sure Tebow is as ready as possible.

I really do hope Orton goes to Miami and does well for them.  He deserves to go to a place where he's actually wanted, and with their Nolan-run defense, the Dolphins could really do well with Orton I think.  Definitely better than with Henne or Moore. He's just not a good fit for Denver for a number of reasons, the primary one being that the fans never really wanted Orton, always saw him as a concession prize for losing Cutler, and are tired of seeing him fold up under pressure.  Though that last bit isn't his fault.  Without a running game and a defense, there's not much Orton could do, but still, I'd rather see him in Miami.

  • Jackson3793

Heck, if the Broncos have a 5-11 season, that's improvement all around!  I just want to see the Broncos be competitive both offensively and defensively in 2011.  Don't really care what the schedule is.  Tebow may be 1-2 as a starter, but all three games were sure fun to watch because he kept it close and mounted a few comeback drives (but only one for the win).

Besides, I think Orton deserves to go and play for someone that actually wants him.  I kinda feel sorry for the guy seeing as he has to know that 90% of Broncos fans don't want him to start next year (not necessarily that they want Tebow, they just don't want Orton) … but then I remember that he just got paid $1.5M last week just for still being a Bronco, and I can't feel sorry for him any more.
