I debated titling this post A Few Seconds of Panic, but the name was already taken.

Tonight Louisiana State University’s phenomenal cornerback/punt returner Patrick Peterson will be dining with the Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera.

As a matter of fact John Elway, Brian Xanders and John Fox were not even in attendance at LSU’s Pro Day.

They did however see Marcell Dareus, Von Miller and Nick Fairley.

Here’s the good news, Peterson is scheduled to visit Denver soon (he will also visit three other NFL cities). The 2011 Chuck Bednarik Award winner also did not run at his Pro Day, so there may not have been much for the three decision makers from Denver to see in the first place.

i hope they're already sold on picking him and that's why they decided not to go…

I'll get a little more into this soon, but Peterson, Von Miller and Marcell Dareus are the only three I can endorse for the Broncos at #2 (and in that order, though I know it won't be a popular one).

  • WhidbeyBronco

    agreed!
    maybe I'd switch 2 and three…

  • anthony33

Agree with the switch and I would be happy with any of the three. I do think you have to take Peterson at 2 if he is there. If it comes down to Dareus or Miller then I think you go with Dareus although you could easily build a case for Miller. High class problem.

yea, wouldnt be upset with any of those guys… miller would be my least favorite pick of the three though.

we've seen this before… although with a different front office and coach… anyone remember we didnt even interview jay cutler, much less work him out?

i think with a guy like peterson, you see it all on tape. he did everything at the combine, so you have your stats from there- and i believe we interviewed him there. no real reason to go to the pro day other than to be a cheerleader. hopefully we spent the day looking at some prospects deeper in the draft.

Where do you think Miller would fit in the defense? Would he play Mike linebacker? I don't know too much about the different systems, but wouldn't the Mike make the best use of his pass rushing skills in the 4-3?

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

I'd want him opposite Elvis Dumervil, in Robery Ayers spot. Ayers could compete, shift to lb or backup at de.

We are in a great position this year to get an impact player at 2 or if we trade back to 5. I think we will get one of the 5 top defensive prospects (Peterson, Miller, Dareus, Fairly, or Bowers) if we trade back to 5 and get an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick. If they are sold on one of them being the slam dunk 2nd overall pick then stay where they are but if one is not a step above then get another pick.

I think Miller might be to light to line up at 4-3 DE at the next level, but I think at weakside linebacker behind ayers would be awsome. Then we would have Ayers and Miller on one side and Doom and Haggan on the other. That would be quite the pass rush and I think Miller can cover pretty well because he has good speed and agility. Also if we can draft Martez Wilson in the second round to play ROLB we will be wreaking havoc on QB's. I also think Miller might be the better pick at 2 IF Peterson is gone because the Dline prospects are pretty deep. I mean we can grab Paea, Austin, and many more. I think Paea and Austin would be a nice duo in the middle. I think any of the three prospects Ian mentioned I would be happy with.

Agree with you on the depth at defensive line in the draft, that's why I am okay with Peterson or Miller at #2.

However Miller is only two pounds lighter than Dumervil (at least with what Miller weighed in at his Pro Day). I'd like him at DE. You wouldn't want Martez Wilson at Mike? I did a three round mock with a bunch of other bloggers two weeks ago and was able to get Peterson, Wilson and Paea.

I would not touch Von Miller with a 10 foot pole. He hasn't even been drafted yet and he is named in the lawsuit against the NFL. Obviously someone that can be manipulated so easily has no character. Pass on this guy.

  • flbronc

i'd rather not have to pick a guy we have to 'transition' at the 2 spot…
