Last week John Fox announced that Kyle Orton is currently the starter of the Denver Broncos. Unsurprisingly, the caused a bit of a shock to some fans of the Bronco nation. The majority of fans saw this announcement as a strategic move to up Orton’s stock for a future trade. However, some saw this as the clear and simple truth.

Regardless of the opinion, Denver fans are yet again dealing with an offseason of quarterback controversy (although thankfully this one is quite minor). What do you think Bronco fans? Who will start the 2011 season (if there is one)?

Which QB should start the 2011 season?

Am I the only one who doesn't see this QB controversy as minor?

  • Cyberspread

Whoever wins the competition. I'm leaning towards Orton though…

  • MrEast

I really mean in comparison to McJaygate.

  • mikebirty

i voted for Brady Quinn because i thought he'd be lonely

  • http://6webdesign.com/ Tim Norton

    I'm with you.

  • Chowdors

Gotta be Kyle cuz he's on pace for another record setting season
and on pace to surpass all passing records with only one
game victory for the whole year! Who woudn't want to see that?
1-15 would be great for kyle's stats comeon!

  • Danno

Our horrible defense is no reason to not start Kyle. Tebow is way to green to start. Give me a break.

  • flbronc

if orton is on our roster in may, he starts next season.

  • http://twitter.com/DantePakistan Michael Land

    Has to be Orton

  • NWBroncfan

Orton had a great season last year. He was able to win games in spite of our defense.
I like Tebow, but I would love to see him get another season under his belt. His time will come.

  • Keith

This is a great article but what needs to be talked about is our piss poor defense, I don't know about the rest of the readers but i think the QB position is the least of our worries right now.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

    Critical thinking. I like it.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

From a roster standpoint our starting QB next year is very likely on our roster. In that sense, no, it's not a need. But it's not clear who will start.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Tim Tebow is running away with this in the poll, but I really don't understand why people have so much faith in him over Orton. I don't see what Tim's done to deserve the nod.

  • Cyberspread

Tim's done nothing but bring some excitement to the last 3 games of the year. Its always exciting to see something new though. So, even though I want him to start eventually, Orton should be at the helm this year…

  • The Mascot Army

    Orton = red zone disaster

Tebow played with the same horrible defense and had us in it for 2 of 3 games. One game came down to two Hail Mary attempts against the best offense and defense in the league.

Watching from the bench does nothing for a QB's maturation process.

  • Tdbrigade

I prefer Tebow over Orton. When the 4th quarter comes, you can't trust Orton to win a game. I would rather we find out if Tebow can do the job over the whole season. If not, they have a chance at Luck next year. If he can, then the Broncos are set at that position.

  • Matt Diz

Easy question! TIM TEBOW.. It seems when Tebow plays he makes everyone a little better. Our line seems to want to protect Tim rather then Orton.

Thats why we TRADE KYLE ORTON for a 2nd and 3rd round pick. We need to get rid of him while he is still worth value.

Elway will trade this guy for 10m a year to act sad on the bench…

  • areferee

Mr. East asks a legitimate question, one that garners most of the interest surrounding the upcoming season. I chose whoever wins the competition during training camp, (if any), and here's why:

The single greatest impact that the new staff can have on this team is to quickly build a defense that gives up no more than 16 points in every game. If we had that performance last season, we would have ended at 10-5-1, with the San Francisco game being a potential overtime victory to end at 11-5 and AFC West champions and in the playoffs.

Orton would have finished 7-5-1, (or 8-5) and Tebow at 3-0, all things being the same on offense. Holding teams to 16 or fewer points is not an insurmountable goal for any season.

The point, as I see it, is that we can win with either Orton or Tebow if we have an (orange) crushing defense. But in all honesty, a Tebow led offense will be a helluva lot more exciting…and that's important, as well.

In the long term, I see Orton as a quality backup quarterback, to a young and talented starter, like Tebow. I'm equally sure Orton himself has no such plans. Realistically, the Broncos may not intend to have such an expensive bench warmer, as Kyle Orton either.

The focus must remain on the defense, and the QB situation will work itself out. But with the reality of the CBA stalemate, now is not the time to make any permanent decisions with the three QB “amigos”.

Fox is being sly like his namesake by holding the status quo. We have everything to gain by that tactic, and nothing to lose but a little sleep by the Tebow fans fretting over his playing time.

  • Paradisimo

Absolutely Tebow. We know what we have with Orton and it sucks. There's virtually no chance that we will win the Super Bowl next year with either QB so we might as well see what we have in Tebow. Worst case scenario Tebow loses a bunch of games and we're in position to grab Luck next year.

  • Nisse

probobly his great accuracy, ability to read defenses and not being the fan favorit to win the job.

people seem to not look past those things when voting on polls

  • http://twitter.com/NotBradyQuinn Brady Quinn

    Thank you.

Yo Kyle, follow me at twitter.com/NotBradyQuinn. PLEASE!!!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/dxmanning Joshua Manning

I'll say Andrew Luck…. I mean Tim Tebow. If Orton start next year then we WILL get Andrew Luck in the 2012 draft. BET ON THAT!!!

  • Guest

    Bwahhhhahahahahahahahaahahahahahaa

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Lol. It took me 3 seconds, but lol.

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Orton had us “in it” in several games as well.

  • roshon2411

I only voted for Tebow, because I didn't see an option: “Anyone but Orton, because I've seen Jr. High players with better pocket presence”

  • herc_rock

Tebow is who we thought he is!

  • Mockfan

I think its should be Jason Campbell

  • td30ismvp

Does not matter whoever the poor soul is that starts will have to deal with the little girls in here who will never be happy with them. 2 years ago, “Orton sucks he can't throw the deep ball only screens and check downs, we need a deep game….waaaaaahhhh”, so for part of the year he leads the league in passing and YPA and guess what…”Orton sucks he gets sacked if someone comes near him….waaaaahhhhh” so guess what why explain that you have to take more sacks for a long ball offense, or that the line wasn't doing their part or the defense (yes with an “s”) couldn't stop the run or the pass, it is all Orton's fault. If Tebow gets in it will be the same old tune from the other side, “Tebow sucks….waaaaahhhh”. We get nowhere without a stout running game and an adequate defense. Let the winner of the competition start and stick with them and duck cause the armchair geniuses will be throwing bricks.

  • TheTroglodyte

I don't think it is as much about what Tebow has done vs what Orton can't do.

  • TheTroglodyte

    Not against SD

  • TheTroglodyte

“We have everything to gain by that tactic, and nothing to lose but a little sleep by the Tebow fans fretting over his playing time.”

Yeah and the Orton haters freaking out over another possible season with that noodle armed having, no mobility club footed, fall down if he gets stared at hard, phantom sack taking dude behind center.

  • TheTroglodyte

I'm not claiming to be one of those guys mind you. I think Orton, if given ample time, a new hair do, a heftier football IQ, a shot of courage and bionic legs could be a fine QB!

  • stav

Agreed – We have yet to see Orton play with a real running game and defense, except for the first six games of 2009 when our D was stout. As much as I'm a Tebow fan, he needs another year to marinate and work on his throwing mechanics. The guy has a good arm but needs to make his motion a little bit more efficient, accurate, and quicker. I have no problem with Orton starting next year, but with that said, IF THERE'S A CAMP TO GO INTO, whoever performs better in camp/preseason, that's the starter I support unless they play themselves out of the starting spot.

Here's my question, let's say Orton gets the nod, we win 7 to 9 games, he throws for 25+ td's, 3600+ yds, 60%+ comp, and a 90+ rating (quite possible), what do we do then? You're not getting that out of Tebow next year. Do you let a guy with those stats walk? Orton holds the key to his own future, but if Tebow comes into camp sharp? Tough call, let them fight over the starting spot in camp.

  • NMBronc

I was going to comment, but you nailed it and put to rest yet another blah, blah, blah, Orton post on BT.

  • The Mascot Army

Hey McShay, you know that he played three solid NFL games since those pre-draft day cliches were born, and he pretty much showed he was at least in line with most NFL QBs not named Manning or Brady, and definitely with other rookie QBs.
    But hilarious/original joke nonetheless.

  • denverfanindallas

i have no deep argument, but i am one of the millions who bought a tebow jersey…did anyone buy an orton jersey? did they sell an orton jersey?

btw how about signing champ and portis in the same year… would that not be ironic?

  • Adrenaline

Not sure its faith, I think the fans are just more excited to see Tebow. Orton is good, but I don't ever see him taking us far, Tebow has alot of upside and people want to see him. They also want to sell tickets and I believe Orton will not be on the Roster anyways. Plummer got everyone excited in Denver at the QB position, but came up short. Tebow that person that everyone seems to be getting really excited about win or lose.

Im just amazed how many comments we get about the qb's. It wont matter. We should be talking about the GM. How did we get here? Brian Xanders set this team back 10 years. Cutler,Marshall, ans Hillis gone. What did we get in return? Orton and Quinn. Too many draft mistakes. Moreno,Ayers,Thomas,Tebow, and Albozo Smith. What Gm has done this much damage in so little time? In any sport? Think about it.

  • go broncos

orton hade us in several games
    ya a whole four games.lol
he sucks when in red zone and also with ANY sort of pressure he goes down without being touched! Not tebow.

  • 5280

Stav i love youranalogy! your quite right. i think we can all agree that while Ortons the starter now he better bust his ass in camp/off season because we all know Tebow comin for that ass. The Kids Got heart and work ethic and if Orton isn't on his game Tebow will snatch his spot. I think both of them hold the card to their own future. This off season will be the most competitive QB dual in recent memory for Denver. If Orton did what he did last year, in '11, but with a better supporting cast we can really go places. it's all about who deserves it more when its all said and done.

  • anthony33

It;s easy. Everyone knows Orton is not the long term answer. There is too much invested in Tebow to draft another QB this year. So… if have to start Tebow if you can this year to detemine what you do in next years draft because if Tebow is not the long term answer then we MUST draft a QB next year. The only way you find out is to play him.

  • flbronc

i tend to agree with you here. tebow is certainly more fun to watch with his firey approach to the game than orton's businesslike, yet brutally efficient style. i think that fans want that fire… especially when the team is losing. the loss isnt as bad if the players look pumped and you can tell they are trying to win the game (in no way am i suggesting that orton didnt try to win games- but there is no denying the demeanor between the two qb's is night and day).

it's generally considered fact that mcdaniels was in complete control of personnel decisions, and hence most of the moves you mentioned were his. i believe i even heard that he didnt even know about the hillis deal until it was already done.

i am willing to at least give him a shot.

  • Triston27

    I vote for Elway.
