Down 17-0 in the third quarter to the Houston Texans, there were worried murmurings of the Denver Broncos suffering the first home shutout in their history.

Tim Tebow had other ideas.

In his home debut, the rookie quarterback seemed to channel the great John Elway, rallying the Broncos to a 24-23 victory over the Texans that — at least temporarily — did much to silence his numerous critics.

Tebow eluded sacks. Tebow escaped the pocket, gained first downs, and ran out of bounds when it precluded him to. Tebow completed passes of 21, 24, and 50 yards.

More impressively, Tebow shook off his first quarter mistakes and delivered a winning performance. Most impressively, Tebow executed a 74-yard fourth quarter drive, climaxed with a six-yard touchdown run, to give the Broncos their first lead of the game late in the fourth quarter.

Then Syd’Quan Thompson intercepted a tipped Matt Schaub pass, and the Broncos went on to win in Week 16 NFL action.

The win eliminates any talk of the Broncos claiming the #1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, but the need to draft Andrew Luck there seems to have disappeared. Broncos faithful just got their first true look at what could become of the Tim Tebow Era. It was a promising look, indeed.

On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me — A TIM TEBOW WIN FOR THE BRONCOS!!!!!!!

  • Crwolff

Wow that was exciting. Tebow just might be the real deal after all!!

  • alfred18

Tim Tebow is the real deal. Sign Champ and bring in Nick Fairley

  • http://ehalseymiles.com E. Halsey Miles

On the 12th day of Christmas, Tim Tebow gave to me:
    12 bubble scre-ens
    11 right guard rushes
    10 QB draws
    9 incompletions
    8 sacks avoided
    7 Lloyd receptions
    6 Lance Ball touches
    5 Mis-thrown baaaaaaaaaalls
    4 First down scrambles
    3 touch downs
    2 scary plays
    …and a badly ne-eded vic-tor-y!!!!!!

(Ok so the numbers don't really match up to anything)

  • http://ehalseymiles.com E. Halsey Miles

Swapping 12 and 4 will scan better.

  • kerry

yes! ive changed my mind about Tebow. he is the greatest ever!! better then Elway. he just single handedly destroyed the worst secondary in football while saving a burning orphanage!! he is amazing!!

PFFFTTT. Promising look my ass. Orton could have passed all over Houston's pathetic secondary. this doesnt end ANY talk about Denver getting a new QB. new coach has ZERO loyalty to Tebow. we will have a shot at Luck or Mallet.

  • BroncoMan24

Feels good to win a game. Go Broncos!!!

  • TheTroglodyte

    lol that was awesome

  • TheTroglodyte

I love you Kerry, and so does Tebow and God. Hug it out?

  • dogheadbrew

Tebow helping beat a bad no-luck team, is promising, but does not really cement him as the QB of the future. He definitely looked like a rookie QB with a lot of athletic talent taking his second or third start. Which is good, since that is exactly what he is.

What I don't see as a fluke is that all three phases of the game looked more energized and motivated than I have seen all season. When Tebow started getting in rhythm the whole team looked like they believed it. I really do like Orton as a person and a player, but I had forgotten what it was like to have a real leader behind center.

  • crazykid

It sucks to be Orton right now…

Did anyone notice the other punters Adidas Adizero cleats with the pink laces? haha

  • The Mascot Army

Yeah, that's exactly what you anti-Tebow robots have been saying since the draft, that “he's no elway.” (sarcasm)

No, you have been saying that he isnt even worthy of being in the NFL (especially as a QB).
You clowns all keep raising the bar every time he surpasses the limitations you are so sure about.

The good news is that it is you and not Tebow who looks sillier each week.

  • areferee

You REALLY should check for polyps while your head is up there.

  • vince_mairne

    Well done!

  • vince_mairne

The talk is over….get over it! Tebow is going to be the QB! Besides we need defense not another QB! Haven't you learned anything?

  • vince_mairne

That's what Tebow brings to the team…energy and leadership. Players want to follow him and he is a winner.

  • MiKey55

Can't denie that he played a good game thats for sure obviously nice to win the game in an exciting way. we are 4-11 are we good, no, do we have a long way to go, yes, did tebow play well today, yes! I know he still has tons of questions blah blah blah but come on if he passes for 300 yards and directs a game winning drive you can't hate the guy. I'm not saying he is the savior but next weeks game will be a good game love to see tebow against some more formidable defenses to see how he handles it. new coach needs to go defense defense defense!!!! our D is so pourous we have to get better a return of dumervil will help but thats not enough youth youth youth! best D player available at all picks unless the other guy is legitamatly too good to be true!

  • anthony33

Very clever… well stated my friend.

  • anthony33

Anyone that was on the live blog knows how elated I was over Tebow's performance. Now that I have had a chance to settle down here is a little more objective point of view.

    What I liked:
    – Broncos scored on four consecutive possesions… when was the last time that happened?
    – Tebow's leadership and apparent ability to elevate everyone around him.
    – His ability to extend plays, while not all had a good ending, he was able to salvage the chance to make a play.
    – His ability to run and pick up first downs.
    – His occasional very good throws.
    – Seemed to read the defense fairly well and found the open guy.
    – More the anything though, I really liked the look in his eyes on teh sideline after scoring the go ahead touchdown. It wasn't a look of elation, but rather the look of a WARRIOR. He was ready to go right back out there.

    What I didn't like:
    – He has a long way to go before being able to beat teams with his arm, but hopefully that will get better.
    – First pick was a God awful throw.
    – No touch for red zone end zone passes.

Overall you gotta feel good even though it was against a defense that might be as bad as ours.

It is interesting to read the comments about Tim Tebow. I watched every single game that he played at Florida. The guy is a special human being. If everyone is playing 100%, then he plays 105%, just enough to carry the day. That IS the Tebow factor. Players rally around him because he is a true winner and a believer. And he makes everyone around him a believer. Think Elway, Marino, Montana, Brady, Vick, Brees, Manning, they all have that one special personality “intangible” that makes them great. Tim has that. At 23 years old, he has grown men rallying around him and fighting for him. Just wait, this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship if you're smart enough to keep him!

  • TheTroglodyte

Did anyone else notice that after Tebow scored the game leading TD in the 4th, Bailey ran over to congratulate him? I don't remember Bailey every running over to Plummer or Cutler or Orton. That really says something about the passion Tebow seems to have sparked in the team.

  • BroncoMan24

I hope you don't mind me posting this in here, but thought it was a good read.

  • JT

Very, very, true. Just watching him play (good or bad), you can just feel that he has what they call “it”.

  • Bboop

I'm an 83 yr. old great grandma with 32 grandkids and 25 great gr.kids. I fell in love with Tebow while in FL. and watching him win the Title game for the Gators. I was so impressed by his wonderful play that night, that I didn't get to bed until 1 AM. I try to watch him every chance I get, and I read and clip all of his press releases. Being from MN, I was hoping that he would replace Farve. I would like to think there is still a chance! I'll keep praying………

  • crazykid

the funniest part of this is how he “liked” his own comment…

  • Vince_marine

Ma'am, sorry to tell you, but the Bronco nation has been praying for a QB ever since John Elway left. I'm not sure he is a John Elway just yet, but he sure has the leadership and intangiables to be. It's time our prayers were answered and we'd like to keep him here in Denver. :)

  • The Mascot Army

Steve Beuerlein was so anti-Tebow in the beginning of the game, saying the same things the echo chamber says about Tebow (bad passer, not used to NFL speed/strength, etc…), and it was driving me nuts.
But as the game went on, Beuerlein began to change, first becoming more even-handed, and then finally slightly pro-Tebow.
    It was like Rocky IV!

  • TheTroglodyte

    hahaha!

  • TheTroglodyte

    haha

  • Doom92

I always stick up for people speaking there mind here, and it being allowed is the best part… Even I have to admit the kerry is a total Ass Clown…lmao

  • Doom92

Something that people seem to be missing a bit is that even the WORST D in the league is better than the BEST collage D. Even our D would woopass against a collage D. Tebow with some average NFL players and what I think are excellent receivers beat the other team in the NFL. Worst D or not its still the NFL…

For sure something nice to build on. During the last drive I said to my GF, “even if he doesn't pull it off he has played well and no one can say he wasn't opened up a bit”, he was and he did pull it off…

  • Doom92

And I just have to say it… KnowSHOW strikes again. I think there are really only 2 Glaring holes in our offense. RB and TE…

I really liked the way Daniel Gram protected Tebow though, that was awesome!!! It was alluded to earlier in the thread… Tebow has veterans ready to go to battle for him, thats pretty damn cool…

  • mikebirty

I was impressed, I'm not converted 100% to a T2 lover but I was impressed enough to think the kid deserves more chances. Some of the throws and reads were great.

Bring on the playoff-less Chargers and cry baby rivers.

  • http://twitter.com/DantePakistan Michael Land

You and I seem to be the only ones not drinking the Tebow koolaid. He had an ok game but it was nothing special and he did nothing amazing. His throwing motion still sucks, he is incredibly inaccurate, his reads were awful, and the majority of his yardage came from great blocking by the WRs on the 80 screen passes that were called. Orton is still by far a better QB than him but we need Luck, Tebow will never “lead” us to anything significant.

  • http://twitter.com/DantePakistan Michael Land

Yeah, I'm sure that's what it is.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PAXI7GNSPONL3YIFKHEGXRAJ64 Robert

You need to give the guy a chance to show what he can do, not much of a football fan, but I think Tim could do the job if given the chance. You can't prove yourself sitting on the bench. I do believe that he has the respect of all of his teammates, seems that's an important factor.
    Cut him a break!!!!!!!

  • anthony33

    Doom
agree with you on Moreno. Buck was as good as he's been since arriving last year. I have liked Ball since preseason and believe he is our best back. Add a 3rd or 4th rounder there.

TE is a mess. They will need to acquire one through free agency or have to use a draft pick. I would go FA because of all the needs they have on defense.

  • anthony33

What becomes even more interesting now is what the thinking will be in hiring the new HC. Do you get a defensive minded guy and keep B McD and maybe McCoy to continue on with this offense? Do you bring in a whole new staff and start over or do you bring in a staff that knows the spread offense and tweak what we are doing.

If you bring in an offensive minded coach will he buy into Tebow or will he pull a McD and want to change everything.

Don't know if you heard Cowhers comments after the games yesterday, but he denies saying anything about preferences (I believe him since it didn't come from Shefty) and he was gushing about Tebow.

    Maybe, just maybe.

  • http://www.broncotalk.net Josh Temple

No problem, I like to think we have a good relationship with all of the Broncos blogs. I re-tweet IAOFM all the time.

  • Nisse

yeah, and brian cushing was ivan drago!

  • The Mascot Army

How exactly did his throwing motion impact the game? I missed the dozens of strips that were predicted. I did see him avoid what would have been surefire Orton sacks a few times though, as well as extend dead plays a lot longer than orton would have.
I also missed the “incredible” inaccuracy on his 50 yard bomb.
“awful reads” is a joke critique, so vague and desperately hinting at a deep understanding of football, when it is really just repeating what you heard from McShay before the draft.
His past game press conference sure looked like he knows what he is doing.

It shouldnt surprise me when you jokers keep doubling down on your tebow predictions, while raising the bar of expectations. You might want to hold off on the “I am sure as sh*t” pose, because you look people who repeat what they see on TV from people who didnt have time to watch more than 30 minutes of tebow film.

You should do what Buerlein did during the game, namely, go from cliche hurling skeptic to believer.

  • broncoinva9986

I like all of my comments

  • robtink242

I'm not sipping any kool-aid.. but that was a good performance by the rookie.. Honestly i don't think Kyle Orton could of done that.. I'm not putting Tebow amongst the greats but he's not our starting QB because he's handsome.. He's clearly better than the lifeless Orton.. Granted your right his loyalty is not with our new coach.. but coming back down 17-0 is pretty impressive don't believe that your just a hater and not a realist.

  • NMBronc

This is pretty spot on. I would add two things; He actually seemed to have improved in a week and his throws were tighter and more accurate.
He does need to work on touch throws.

Overall, it was a solid performance by a rookie in his 2nd start. I am excited to see how he progresses.

One other item. I rather enjoyed the play calling as well. McCoy may be a keeper.

  • NMBronc

By 'sack' do you mean where Orton screams like a little girl and collapses to avoid getting hit? Yes he did avoid several of those.

  • Vince_marine

Well said. A lot of people who critique in have never even played the game of football. He is using words and phrases he has only heard from TV. Besides, how would he even know the reads unless he was Tebow himself or a coach with a playbook. Just another hater!

One thing that I would like to add to your argument is that he is a proven winner and leader. He will always find a way to win a game no matter what.

  • Vince_marine

    Yup, I think he did….lol!

  • Vince_marine

Don't forget Lendale White…he was doing pretty good in the preseason till he got hurt.

  • robtink242

Okay if everyone is gonna give their prediction of this teams future heres my view. My personal choice for head coach is Jon Gruden.. If we don't get him Ron Rivera is an excellent choice.. I can see Kubiak at OC or Jeremy Bates. DC will be Singletary or Rivera..

We really should continue the 3-4 defense with a healthier team next year.. I really hope we draft a pass rushing OLB.. Ayers is a solid run stopper and a better 3-4 DE than LB.. who ever do comes in they have be creative and fix that gaping hole in the middle of our defense..

I know this is kind of off topic but, did anyone notice how horrible Woodyard was in coverage.. Wow i mean DJ alright in coverage, Haggan is so so at best.. But Woodyard was just horrendous out there!

  • flbronc

rivera isnt a bad hc choice after you get a no thanks from some of the higher profile candidates. unfortunately i dont think that rivera would make a lateral move to be a dc here. he currently has a better situation in sd. not sold on singletary as a dc either- before being promoted to hc, he was never a dc in the nfl, just a linebacker coach. we need a track record of good coaching and defensive playcalling, not a big name hall of fame player imo. i still like fisher if he gets the boot in tenn as a hc paired with someone like kubiak as oc.
