McDaniels

Josh McDaniels has been fired as head coach of the Denver Broncos, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen confirmed Monday. McDaniels was fired both because of the team’s 3-9 record this season (11-17 in McDaniels’ tenure), as well as the knock on the team’s integrity the Spygate II video scandal stirred across the league.

The Broncos have just announced that  running back’s coach Eric Studesville is in as interim head coach.

Stay tuned, tonight will be very interesting.

I got two words, FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/dxmanning Joshua Manning

What about Tim Tebow??? Who's gonna work with him??? This is not good. Firing McD is not the answer at all.

  • AtomicLeo

Strike up Handel's Halleljuah Chorus….let healing of Bronco Nation begin.

Gte rid of his worthless ass too!!!

  • kerry

fuck Tebow. he will be gone with MCD and A REAL QB can be drafted with our high pick

  • kerry

oh glory days. FINALLY this clown is gone. bye MCD we dont need any press conference with a bullshit tearful goodbye. just pack your shit and get out of Denver.

  • kerry

good we can get a real QB. Andrew Luck and Ryan Mallet are at the top of this draft, just like us. PLEASE bring in Gary Kubiak or Jon Gruden.

  • Ryan K.

I always thought drafting Tebow with the most brilliant job security move that McDaniels ever made. I thought for sure that Bowlen did not have the balls to fire him because it would basically include throwing away a first round pick as well. Whatever McDaniels saw in Tebow, he was one in the minority. I can't think of a name we can bring in that will be excited to stick with Tebow.

At this point tank the season and lets go after Cowher and draft Luck.

  • http://twitter.com/DantePakistan Michael Land

Mallet will be a bust and Luck will go first.

I thought the day my kids were born was the happiest day of my life. i was wrong. today is

  • Wesley

Why is everyone happy? Now the Broncos are gonna be one of those “looking for it's identity for half a decade” teams.

  • http://twitter.com/DantePakistan Michael Land

What was our identity under Josh, being a joke?

  • FloydOtisTerrell

This may be like Shanahan's first head coaching job (with you know who) in some ways. I won't be surprised if he has success as an NFL head coach later on, but I don't think he was ready just yet. Strong, but sometimes maybe too (head) strong. I could never really get over the Hillis move. All we saw when he was on the field was a violent, effective intensity, pure football skills. His success in Cleveland is no surprise.

At this point, I'd love a proven coach. Give me tough defense and a cold-weather, fourth quarter running game. I'd love Cowher in Denver!

  • framey

    luck and harbaugh from stanford!

  • Deuce

    wewe simpl

  • Bgoodradman

    COWHER PLEEEEEEASE!!!!!

  • Ryan K.

I am with you framey, that would be a dream pairing… along with moving Tebow to H-Back.

  • areferee

We are not out of the woods yet, Playoff Hunters. Keep in mind it was Bowlen who started this fiasco not quite two years ago. He must use whatever skills he has left as an owner to finally bring in the right head coach.

We all know the top two names being bandied about, but trust me, Bill Cowher is waiting for the soon to be open position replacing John Fox at Carolina, and Jon Gruden has publicly stated he is not interested.

Yes, I know money can change all that, but I fear Bowlen, who is committed to over $7 Million for 2011 already, may be looking for a bargain. This is no time to scrimp, however. We saw what inexperience can do.

We have taken a good first step, but the drop can be painful if we don't tred carefully. Look for the “Wink” or McCoy to be the interim HC.

I found it interesting that the official announcement stated “Relieved of his duties”, not fired. Could that by some stretch mean they want him to stay on in some other capacity? He's only qualified as a QB coach. His ego would never take the comedown.

Things will get interesting from here.

BTW: Tebow, if given a chance, will show everyone that he may be the ONLY McDaniels decision that was worthy of the Broncos. Don't count him out. He's a winner.

  • cj

    JOhn elway 4 interm coach!

  • vince_mairne

Now we have start rebuilding all over again!!! This team is going to be in a state of flux for another two years!!! What about the GM? I thought he should have went before McD!

  • Whatever

Good BYE MCD. You were a lying, cheating loser. You managed to destroy the offense last year and destroy the defense this year. It to bad the broncos lost alot a talented players under your management style

  • Rob

they need to bring in gruden as coach and wake the players up

  • flbronc

not saying that i doubt you, but when has gruden specifically denied interest in the broncos job? he did specifically say he was committed to espn when offered the hurricanes job- but that was not a categorical denial of coaching jobs elsewhere.

i am in no way petitioning to get him as a coach, i'm not sure he is the man for the job by any means, but he was very high on tebow surrounding the draft and worked with him pre-draft to get him pro-ready.

  • BroncoMan24

WOW… I thought he might be fired, but not till the end of the season. Yeah I know we can't get any worse, but who is going to be the interim coach? I just had someone text me with the news so hadn't had the chance to read around. If Bowlen did this so soon, I am hoping he already has a plan in place. He would almost have to don't you think?

  • iskabibble

I can understand the issues w/ Cutler & Marshall, but when McD traded Hillis (a guy who was a hard-nosed baller by any measure) that's when he lost my support!

  • Deuce

I have been on the MCD train ever since he was hired. Now that he is gone though, i am happy. Simply for the fact that he wrecked this team. He took arguably one of the best offenses in the league and made them worse. Our defense when Shanny left was horrid, the worse D in the league..and MCD makes them even worse?? how does that even happen? I liked McDaniels because i thought he had a lot of upside and knowledge for the game of football. but he completely ruined this organization…I agree with Kerry. I wish we would of hired Kubiak, and Gruden could work with Tebow.

  • Skstamat

Yowzer, we know how to grab some negative headlines. Screw Gruden, #1 and #2 choices – Cowher – give him whatever he wants. IF, IF, Bud Adams is stupid enough to fire him, Jeff Fisher

  • JB

Thank God, and everyone else that took part in firing Belichek Jr. The little lying cheating napolian complex needed to go; 2 years ago. Why was he ever hired in the first place.

  • TheTroglodyte

Bowlen couldn't wait until after the year and still fire McD WITH cause. He just got out of McD's salary requirement for 2011 and opened the door for a solid contract to whomever he chooses to bring in. It was a smart business decision.

It will be interesting to watch how the Broncos perform the rest of the year being that McD was really the O-Coord and QB coach as well. Hopefully Xanders is next on the chopping block.

  • flbronc

while this will appease a portion of the fan base, i dont think it was the right move at this juncture. i think you wait until after the season and make a decision after the season, taking into account the other options available.

cowher isnt coming to denver. get over it. gruden probably isnt either. who does that leave us with- john fox? stellar record with a mediocre carolina program, oh wait… wade phillips? been there done that got the t-shirt (literally, i still have t-shirts from those days). marvin lewis? squeaky clean discipline record there. brad childress? another “offensive wiz” with no people skills- i doubt it.

that leaves us praying that kubiak gets canned in texas. or we take a flier on another unproven assistant.

personally i would rather bowlen have canned the gm and dc (yes can the dc again) and replace both with some experienced guys and let mcd keep the offensive reins. i still hope xanders gets the boot.

i think this move hurts us in the short run, only time will tell in the long run. the only real positive is that the defensive staff will be replaced by whoever comes in.

  • http://nation.theorangepage.com/blog Ian Henson

I felt as though him doing the University of Miami interview was him saying to everyone, “I am interested.”

Don't know that I love Jon Gruden as a head coach in Denver, I personally would die for Bill Cowher. Of course the deepest dark horse is Bill Parcells.

i cant see parcells coaching. i wouldnt be opposed to having him consult though.

  • Scttwns

He has embarrased a very well respected franchise. there is no room for sympathy. Get lost Mcd go flip burgers and mcdonalds prob cant screw that up to bad.

Looks like Studesville (the Running Backs Coach) has been named as the interim coach.

So do all of us life long fans!! ASS CLOWN!!

  • Blessedresistor

You left out Jim Harbaugh from Stanford. I think he would be great.

  • herc_rock

This is not accurate. The team is still on the hook for the rest of his contract.

  • herc_rock

    Yes!

Gruden and Cowher is fantasy-land stuff. Never happen.

  • herc_rock

Didn't Cowher's wife die recently? His impetus for retiring was to spend more time with his family in N. Carolina. Now that his kids are almost out of college and his wife is dead, it might not be “Carolina or nothing” for him anymore. Interesting.
