Former Philadelphia Eagles great Brian Westbrook is scheduled to visit the Denver Broncos on Thursday.

The running back visited former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan in Washington, D.C. yesterday. Though it looks like that was more of a visit out of courtesy as Westbrook was scheduled to appear with Redskins general manager Dan Snyder at an NFL High School charity event.

The news broke via Adam Schefter on Twitter, who stated that the Redskins do in fact have interest, as do the St. Louis Rams. He expressed Denver was being, “Serious.”

Although the Broncos are a bit full in the backfield at the moment with sophomore Knowshon Moreno, former Eagle Correll Buckhalter, J.J. Arrington and Lance Ball currently on the roster amongst others. Westbrook would fit right in with his former teammates (Buckhalter and Brian Dawkins) given Josh McDaniels apparent love for all things former Eagles (and with good reason).

I've actually had a feeling that Westbrook might come to Denver ever since the Eagles released him. He just seems to have the qualities that McD looks for in a back and he is a good goal line back. I think this would be a solid pick-up at the right price.

  • dogheadbrew

I doubt it'll work out, but I can't think of a better back for Knowshon to learn from and emulate.

Westbrook's career may almost be over. He'll be 31, He's a concussion or two from being finished. Last year he missed two games after his first one, then five more after his second. Concussions add up, the more you have the more prone you are to get them. I think I would rather develop Ball, Baker, or Hall.

Completely agree with you. Moreno holds the same raw skill set that Westbrook does, it just isn't polished yet. Westbrook is phenomenal in pass protection, screens, short out routes, dumps over the middle, great vision between the tackles and a very solid goal line back.

Much like Moreno, his on field speed is much better than his 40 time of 4.57 too. I expect KnoMo to be a much improved player this year anyway but the addition of Westbrook could really speed the whole process up and give him a lot of great insight to what he should be seeing/doing on the field.

Plus he is a great locker guy and he is old so the signing will piss Kerry off and that is always a bonus.

  • Hope is for sissies

    I like your low IQ…eat a D.

  • flbronc

if he'll sign cheap, i am all for it. we wont end up using arrington at all, so we can ditch him. if nothing else, i agree that he can be a great mentor to moreno. unfortunately i dont think he'll end up singing here because if shanny wants him in washington, snyder will toss more cash at him then we are willing to spend.

  • anthony33

If Shanny wanted him in DC he would already be there.

Agree with the statement that he would be a good addition if the price is right. He can't possibly do any worse at the goal line than our backs did last year. If that's the only place you use him, then go get him. Would have worth about 40 more points last year.

  • mokptt

I don't see this helping out inability to run between the tackles on short yardage.

  • dogheadbrew

I hadn't thought about that last bit. Good point.

I thought that it was a pretty obvious move. I don't see how as a coach you like Correll Buckhalter and not make a move for Brian Dawkins if he's available.

He's a back that can run, block and catch the ball. I'm surprised he's not a Patriot already.

  • kerry

alright!! an old RB who is one concussion away from being unemployed. Welcome to the retirement community known as the Denver Broncos. all old injury prone players welcome. may your first meal of Prunes and warm milk be a hearty one. (who the fuck drinks milk warm anyway?!)

  • iskabibble

    You were right about Kerry…what a D-bag!

  • merc22

Kerry are you a broncos fan, because i'm confused with the comments you leave here?

  • herc_rock

He's always banged up and he's on the wrong side of 30. I don't see much of a benefit here.

  • flbronc
