Tim Tebow probably had no idea that the NFL Combine interview process was over when he walked into Denver’s 104.3 The Fan and Dmac and former Bronco turned radio personality Alfred Williams.

Big Al and Dmac grilled Tebow and when I say grilled, he grilled him.

Tebow kept it moving though and seemed to let the questions slide off of him as well as he could.

Dmac even brought up James Dobson of  Focus On The Family in regards to the Super Bowl Ad as well as Tebow’s assumed overtness in pronouncing his faith towards others and Tebow even had an answer for that.

Tebow wasn’t selling wolf tickets though, when Al brought up beating Philipp Rivers and putting the San Diego Chargers in the number two slot in the AFC West, Tebow kept it classy and said that he’d need to learn the system first.

Be sure to check out the entire interview here.

It’s good to see the young man have such poise (despite the fact that he always seems to be running out of breath), he’ll face much worse than this for the way he’s chose to life his life. I have more respect upon hearing this and seeing the way that he handled it though. What do you think Nation, better or worse after listening to the interview?

  • LB

You all will have to do your homework on Tim. He is extremely poised and is used to being grilled by the media; this was nothing out of the ordinary for him. Google some of his old interviews and you will see, he is unflappable and genuine. By the way, he is not breathless, he is passionate – you will learn that too.

Barack Obama is passionate. He doesn't lose his breath like Tim Tebow =)

  • strawdog111

4th quarter drive, close game, playoffs on the line…he strikes me as a guy I'd like running the huddle.

  • Big_Pete

Big Al wanted us to get Vick in the worst way last year, and probably still does. So why is he so hard on Tebow? Tebow wins big and in big games. Vick does not. Tebow scrambles like Vick. Tebow throws I think better than Vick (accuracy). Tebow is a team first player unlike Vick, and he will never be suspended, unlike Vick…… So how the the world Al is a hater, I'll never know.

  • ryan

Wow Tebow nailed that interview and handled it in an amazing manner. I am on record as not thinking this is a good pick but I am impressed by him here. I wonder why DMac in his two questions had to make them about Tebow's faith and not football. I wonder if our 1st round pick was Muslim if they would face the same line of questioning. Its not like Tebow is an alien or what he believes puts him as an enigma in an NFL locker room. Elam was a devout Christian his entire time with the Broncos, play with Big Al, and his teammates loved him along with the community.

  • ryan

Pete is right about the Vick stuff. Also why is it that with every other QB everyone grants them a year or two to sit the bench no matter how bad the team is, for example Carson Palmer. But with Tebow people are saying this was terrible because he will need time to develop. Outside of Flacco and Ryan there have been virtually zero QB's who have been ready right away.

  • kerry

wow. a guy does an interview and now he is the guy we want in the fourth quarter with the game on the line? he still has to play. he wont be on the field doing an interview, he will be getting chased by monster LB's and DE's. oh and not college DE's, NFL DE's. its laughable how easily the sheep can get sold on a guys interview. kinda like McD. he tells you what you wanna hear and soon you are all following him over the cliff.

  • Andrew E.

Speaking of religion, I'll be praying that Kerry goes away and never comes back.

  • NMBronc

You have quite the man crush going on here, Pete. Perhaps we should get Tim some securtiy and a restraining order.

  • ryan

I like Kerry, he reminds me how horrible life would be if you only ever looked for the negative in everything.

  • NMBronc

If McD is switching to a spread/dink&dunk offense, then this was a very good draft, we are very much in rebuilding mode and McD will get his 3rd even if we lose this year. Which would also mean that Tebow has a shot at starting, Orton is likely on the block and Stater will be shown the door.

If we are not switching to a spread-like off, then this was still a solid draft – the Tebow pick.

  • Big_Pete

I was on record as being an anit-draft-Tebow person. But I must admit, the kid is growing on me in a big way. The more I hear from him, the more I hear for coach, and the more I study his game, the more confident I am in him.

  • Big_Pete

Hate to break it to you, but almost every team in the NFL is a “dink & dunk” offense.
Ever since Weiss/McDaniels made it popular and won 3 super bowls doing it, pretty much every team switched.
So yes, I do see Tebow playing this offense like Beethoven played the piano.

  • dogheadbrew

I heard the interview live, and I was more disappointed with Al than impressed with Tebow. Tebow, nearly verbatim, presented the same interview as he did Thursday when he was picked. It's not a bad interview, but you don't learn much new about him. The onlt thing I know is that he's good at staying on point, and wants to play football.

Al only asked the guy about contract negotiations. I know Al likes to get paid, which is not a bad thing, but it seemed like a random line of questioning for this interview. There are a lot of knocks on Tebow, but his material wants, and me-first attitude leading to a lengthy hold out are not among them. Furthermore, Tebow alluded to his need to adapt and change. I would have love to hear “You have worked on your mechanics for the draft. What other areas have you identified and how are you working on them to make the transition to prototypical NFL QB?” The guy is stoked, as he should be, to be in the NFL and a Bronco. Don't soft ball him, but don't ram your agenda down his throat either.

Dmac's point seemed semi valid to me, but it also came across as piling-on after beating on the guy for a random point.

The good side is, Tebow has had LOTS of media experience, and this one interview probably will not color his idea of all Denver media. And Al is just passionate about his Broncos, and he is upset about the direction they have gone lately. If Tebow turns into the blodied, team-first, “we don't know how he did it, but he willed us to victory,” field general he was in FL, Big Al will gush all over him, AND admit his error.

  • NMBronc

So because I am not riding Tebow like a member of the Ambiguously Gay Duo, I suddenly don't realize that the DinknDunk is an off-shoot of the West Coast offense? I do appreciate you looking out for me, no reason to hate.

It is this simple; if Tebow as an NFL player is as good as Tebow the man, then HOLY SHIT! Unfortunately, it is not that easy and I have my doubts. Time will tell and hopefully you are right, because that means a championship for Denver.

  • Big_Pete

Amen to that! Here's to hoping.

  • dogheadbrew

Elam was and is very low key with his faith. Oh, and a kicker. Tebow is a high profile QB and Christian. I doubt particular faith has as much to do with it and proselytizing does. I think it is a legitimate locker room chemistry question, but the timing is questionable.

  • dogheadbrew

What do you do when the Broncos win a game?

  • NMBronc

    Fingers crossed.

  • kerry

ill make a deal with you, you pray and ill leave the second god shows up ok? let me know when that happens.

  • Big_Pete

That was my impression as well. It seemed like they asked the exact same questions that have been asked to Tebow for the last few months. I want new insights. Al always brings up contracts, it's what he does, and I loved how Tebow said “I'm not into material things” when asked, which means that he won't hold out.
And one thing is for sure about Al. He talks a big game, so from time to time, he is dead wrong, but when he is wrong, he will call himself out about it and admit it. You gotta respect that.

  • Big_Pete

Exactly. And to think, I was a leader of the “Please don't draft Tebow” mob. lol. I'm just trying to strip my emotions away and focus on how he plays, how he acts, and how that translates to what McDaniels is trying to do with the scheme. So far, it all meshes pretty well. So I'm hopeful.

  • vince_mairne

    AMEN TO THAT!!! LOL!!!

  • dogheadbrew

I did like the way Tebow handled himself. And I love the two kiss-offs to Al, the material things and the hope to prove you wrong comment. I like and respect Al too. I guess I just see this a giant make-or-break move for your team and coach (like him or not he is ours). So I'm antsy to know more about what Tebow is actually going to do. The biggest problem is that the radio stations, TV networks and coaches have not acquiesced to just calling me in these situations and just letting me do it my damn self.

In another note, I just had to add “Tebow” to my auto-dictionary. I guess I have to deal with him for a while.

  • ryan

Yeah Al is a tool who only looks at things from a contract and player perspective. The day after we traded Brandon Marshall, Al did not care about the picks we got, how it effected the Broncos or anything on that end. He simply just kept repeating how happy he was for Brandon and him “getting paid.”

Al misses that element of understanding that while we fans care about the players it is in the end always about the franchise for us. We want Super Bowls and greatness.

BTW, since Al thought Clausen would have been the second coming of Elway for us, does he not think he would have needed a year or two also to sit on the bench? What a double standard.

  • kerry

there is no double standard. Clausen was thought to be the most NFL ready QB in this draft. especially if he was drafted by the Broncos due to his familiarity in this system. he ran it under Charlie Weis who also taught McD so he would have some grasp on the system. Clausen isnt a longterm project like Tebow. and if Clausen had Tebows character, Clausen would have been the pick, not Tebow. McD values character over talent. thats been obvious from day one.

  • Big_Pete

    Agreed.
I know I've posted elsewhere about the “he won't be ready for 2-3 years” comments.
NO SHIT!!!! No QB is ready for 2-3 years. Even Flacco and Ryan didn't do anything their rookie years even though they started. They only threw the ball 5-10-15 times per game their rookie seasons. Why is everyone harping on the “he can't start today” aspect about Tebow. I bet he's every bit as “ready” to start his rookie season as any other rookie QB. If anything, he'd probably do better than normal rookie QBs because of his escape ability and running ability.
Unfortunately, our offense will demand 30+ throws per game from our starting QB, so Tebow will have to wait, but Sam Bradford would have had to wait as well. Face it media folks, rookie QB's struggle unless they are extremely limited just like Roethlesburger/Flacco/Ryan were. If you ask any rookie QB to throw the ball 20,30,40 times a game, they'll lose 13 out of 16 games. So Tebow taking a few years to start is really a moot point.

  • ryan

Kerry history is not on your side. As Pete and I have both pointed out QB's almost always need a few years to be prepared for the NFL.

Carson Palmer who was more “NFL ready” than Clausen took a year to sit on the sidelines. Matt Leinart is still sitting on the sidelines.

I keep hearing this silly phrase about Tebow that you are using Kerry called “long term project.” No he isn't. He will get 2-3 years to develop and then be judged just like any other QB. Aaron Rodgers sat on the bench for years, why should Tebow not be afforded a few years on the bench also before we decided.

While I have my doubts if Tebow will ever be anything good, lets stop this nonsense of acting like a QB riding the bench for a couple years is something far outside the norm.

  • Andrew E.

McDaniels values character AND talent. I guarantee you McDaniels thinks Tebow has more talent than Clausen.

  • Big_Pete

Exactly. I believe the only QB to ever really do good his rookie year was Marino. Outside of him, rookie QB's struggle mightily if not completely reigned in like we saw 2 years ago with Flacco and Ryan, and last year with Sanchez. You see/saw many games of SINGLE DIGIT ATTEMPTS from these rookie QBs, and more than not, if they threw more than that magical 15 number, it was a big fat L in the win/loss column.

  • nisse

sounds like a case of the gay for tebow flue

  • nisse

usualy he keeps a low profile here on broncotalk when we win. :D

  • NMBronc

Ben, Ryan, Sanchez, etc. Lately these kids aren't doing to bad as Rooks. Still think Brady wins the start and 64.32% chance he retires the starter in Denver.

  • Big_Pete

The reason they aren't doing too bad is because they are limited in production. They aren't asked to throw the ball more than 10-15 times a game, and often during their rookie years, you'll find that they throw the ball less than 10 times per game.
This is why they don't “suck quite so bad” as rookies. It's simply because they are practically non-factors in the games.
Also, I really have high hopes for Quinn. I loved that we picked him up, and I was/still am hoping that he beats out Orton and is our starter from day 1 till he retires. So where Tebow fits in with that is anyone's guess. Maybe Tebow turns out better than Quinn and we get a high pick for Quinn when it's Tebow's time to start. Who knows.

  • NMBronc

As Kerry would say, I would be happy if a 'Monkey with a banjo', beats out Orton.

Also, pretty sweat we got Olsen in the 6th.

  • steeplebomb

I honestly forget but wasn't there a deal made between you and someone about the performance of the broncos relative to the bears? If the Broncos out-performed the Bears you promised not to post here for a year.

    I think.

  • kerry

no Dee and i had a bet that if the Bears won 6 games or more then Dee would leave permanantly. but i offered for dee to stay regardless

“I wonder if our 1st round pick was Muslim if they would face the same line of questioning.”

Funny you should mention that, not our 1st round pick, but Ryan Harris is a devout follower of Islam. You just never hear about it. I remember there being concern that he was going to lose weight fasting for Ramadan.
