OrtonNFL.com’s Michael Lombardi is reporting that Kyle Orton will tough out his ankle injury and play Sunday.  Officially, Josh McDaniels wouldn’t commit either way and stated that the Broncos quarterback is questionable for Sunday.

Lombardi is a solid analyst, so I’m going to assume his news-breaking skills are top-notch as well.  Hopefully Orton doesn’t just play, but picks up right where he left off: tossing 70-yard bombs to Brandon Marshall.

Might as well give him the week off. We're going to get slaughtered whether he plays or not.

  • ryry81

What is going on? Why are we looking at Kyle Orton to start on Sunday? If it's already known that Orton will start on Sunday why didn;t he finish yesterday? It's time for a change! We have a very imressive rookie we need to get more work. 6'5″ and a big arm, Brandstater is the best QB on the roster. Payton Hillis isn't even on the pro bowl ballot (due to lack of playing) and why haven't we heard anything from Spencer Larson? He's the best all around player in the league and he hasn't played for quite a while!

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

I don't know why, especially after yesterday, but I just have this totally relaxed feeling, like this game is in the bag. The Broncos are really beating themselves up with compounding mistakes/frustrations and I think they just stop trying so hard/overpursuing, and just “do their jobs.”

Because how I feel is relevant to how they play.

  • herc_rock

Dude, I think someone needs to review your meds.

  • Arvada62

Orten starts, gets all the practice reps (again), Broncos are toast in upcoming Chargers game. Don't get me wrong, I want the Broncos to win, but they aren't going to do it with Orten. Look at the first game with the Chargers, subtract two kick returns for TDs and how much offense did Denver have with Orten then?

And a backup QB as unprepared to step in as was Simms yesterday is as much a reflection on the coach as the player. Simms needs all week, all the reps with the first team offense this week and he will be fine on Sunday. At least he can zing the ball down field w/o making it a “hail Mary” pass (reference to the two off target rainbows he threw to BMarsh yesterday; caught for TDs because BMarsh wasn't covered and could stop and adjust to the under-thrown ball)

  • Arvada62

IIRC, Spencer Larson was leading the blocking on one of Moreno's early “good” rushes.

  • herc_rock

I don't know, man. I hope they can turn it around, but I am not optimistic. Right now, I only have them winning two more games, three tops.

DC was the “turn-it-around” game. Now, I think we're looking at a “downward spiral” into the “toilet” which will result in my “suicide”

  • herc_rock

You can give Simms a hundred weeks of first-team reps and he'll still suck donkey balls.

Neither of Orton's TD's were “Hail mary's” nor “rainbows.” I can't believe people are bashing him for how he played yesterday.

  • vince_mairne

    Kyle,

I'm with you on this feeling!

  • vince_mairne

What I want to know is where is Woody Paige and his article about Simms being the better QB…LOL!!!

  • TheTroglodyte

So which Orton will show up to play?

“The Noodle Armed Neckbeard” who can't throw beyond 10 yards

    or

“The Baby Face Baller” who is injury prone?

  • ryry81

12 td's and 17 int's. Chris will never be Phil.

  • themacmamba

just remember, you probably said the same thing before the season started, in regards to your lowered expectations in games won, but look, to our surprise, we won 6 in a row. I don't think DC was the turn it around game, next week is. We obviously have the tool, we just need to right the ship. Be optimistic as a bronco fan! we know what we can do! :)

  • herc_rock

If we can't get by the dysfunctional horrid mess they've got in the district, I don't like our changes around against a very good SD team with legitimate offensive weapons.

  • herc_rock

    Injury prone? Jesus.

  • herc_rock

John Elway ain't walking through that door.

  • Andpark

Orton sounds like he might play which is great. SD still allowed McNabb to throw 450 and 2 tds. These guys are not as good as people think. We do need this win bad. Orton heal up buddy!

  • ryry81

The only good coming from Orton playing is the 3 draft picks we got with him!

  • ryry81

Closest thing to John Elway we will ever see again left for Chicago last winter.

  • robtink242

the only way we beat the chargers is if we buckle up and open up the offense that showed some good flashes

  • TheTroglodyte

That and we don't have Jay “I love to throw red zone int's” Cutler back there single handedly costing us games.

  • herc_rock

Jake Plummer was closer to John Elway than the Cutlersulker

  • ryry81

sETTING A SINGLE SEASON RECORD FOR PASSING YARDS IN DENVER WITHOUT A RUNNING GAME LAST YEAR?!?!? I BELIEVE CUTLER IS A YOUNG, STRONGER ARMED ELWAY. MCUH BETTER THAN JAKE THE MISTAKE,

  • robtink242

Well Kyle one thing you guys were wrong with is Hillis being the answer. He most definitely would be a great complimentary back. But Moreno is very promising. With the O-line it's more like a transitional year. changing from the ZBS to a power game and a QB thats doesn't have a great pocket presence. But they to are promising. Our receivers are play some good ball. The only thing holding this offense from being explosive is the play at QB. Orton has been inconsistent to say the least. But that it i don't think he out play what he has done. But pending the situation he to can be explosive. So to me the only way this team can improve this team year is the coaching play calling. I personally think McD has to be more flexible and learn to re-invent his play calling during the halves.

  • ryry81

I don't think it's the play calling…It's the execution. Orton can't get the ball down field, Simms can't stay in the pocket, and Moreno isn't openning up like he should. In a few years I believe he will be fine. If you read my earlier post. Brandstater is the key. Big guy big arm and young enough to get into the sytem.

  • MILEHIGH BECAME MILELOW

Owe no put in Tom Brandstater.I hope yel Orten is hurt all year and Criss Simms. The Chargers are going to chew up my Broncos next week.Redskins back ups on running backs tore up the Broncos. Now they face real running backs and Phillip Rivers is going to pick the Broncos apart. All hope is loss for the Broncos all because crappy qb and d-line.

START BRANDSTATER AND GET HIM READY FOR NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!
BRONCOS SESSON IS OVER AFTER THIS LOSS NEXT WEEK.THIS IS GOING TO MAKE PEEPS MAD BUT TRUE.

  • robtink242

Well I've been hope he started back when we opened up against Cincy. I still blame the coaching staff. the could bench a poor playing Orton. They pound the ball with Hillis and the could pressure Orton to get the ball to the play makers. Its simple this is the NFL and the speed of this game waits for no one.

  • ryry81

    HERE HERE!!

  • mysteryman

im with you on this one man we beat the chargers in san diego and now they have to come and play us in mile high if orton is in well beat them again

  • jonkrause

This is good, as long as he does not get hurt worse…

  • broncoinva9986

Seriously did you even watch simms..I was there he was awful and goofing around on the sideline.. Please this practice stuff with him will not help him…ask any bucs fan all they do is whine about how terrible he was. Orton is fine those passes were not off target.. In the NFL quarterbacks throw to spots not receivers that why you see interceptions when guys are heading away from the ball..please don't get ticky tack with orton sorry he was not 18/18 for 250….

  • broncoinva9986

    Richard Quinn????

  • Andpark

Out of pure speculation how would Brandstater start Sunday? What indicators would we look for? To the best of my knowledge Brandstater has been inactive all season? Orton will not be 100% that much is certain so realistically is there any chance Tom B gets in?

If there is any remote chance Simms plays again I hope he gets reps with the first team. McD needs to get prepared for anything come Sun.

  • broncoinva9986

Bradstater might be the future…and he might not be right now…Denver is in 1st place….we are better than San Diego…Orton is our guy for right now…I like Orton he is not perfect but he is a really good quarterback…but not a amazing quarterback…Lets root for Chicago to lose all their games so we can get a high draft pick

  • broncoinva9986

Than give up…please the true broncos fans will be there in the end….We are very fortunate to be 6-3 at the moment..we were not expecting this at all…..Orton will be fine…although Tom is definately better than simms

  • AtomicLeo

Did anyone watch Orton after his injury last year? Wasn't pretty. Since we have another game 4 days after the SD game, I say let Simms play SD and let Orton heal up.

  • TheTroglodyte

He set the single season record in Denver for ints in the red zone too. Despite not having an every down back we were in the middle of the pack for running as well and one of the best team by averages.

  • robtink242

Anyone notice how poorly SD has been playing through the air. We can really lite um up and then pound all over them. Look for Tony and B marsh to shine

  • ryry81

Who do I need to talk too to get Deion Sanders fired from NFL network?
If there was a racist Rich Eisen, he would have been fired a long time ago!!!

  • steeplebomb

Dude…. Dude… Lets assume for a minute that you are right. Cutler's play would obviously have to improve over what it was to be compared to Elway. but assume that it does. He becomes one of the best QB's in the league. What does moaning and whining about it do? What's done is done. Get over it.

Now, look at the current season. Cutler is NOT playing like a great QB. In fact, his problems are becoming highlighted. He can't make intelligent reads of defenses, he can't adjust, he makes stupid, stupid decisions, he's completely ineffective in the redzone. He has had all of these problems both in Denver (great offensive weapons) and Chicago (not so great). Additionally, there were rumors that Cutler has an alcohol problem, which actually makes me feel bad for him.

Either way, what point is there in getting so upset? And don't write in caps. its not like people think you are more intelligent because of it.

  • steeplebomb

First off, why would you EVER hope that ANY player is hurt longer than they have to be. This is entertainment to us buts its a lot more serious to them. Second, you people just assume that Brandstater will be good, or even competent in this system. WHY?!?!?!?!?!?! He's not as good as you think he is. His stats in college weren't that great. His play against second and third stringers in preseason wasn't that great. He's got potential, but not much else. BUT HE'S BIG AND HAS A BIG ARM. So? Ryan Leaf was heralded coming out of college because of his immense physical promise. Jarmarcus Russel was an absolute beast with a ridiculous arm at LSU. Look how they turned out. Being physically gifted doesn't make you a great (or good (or even mediocre)) QB. At this level, it means almost nothing on its own. I'm pissed because this shows that you people will never be happy. Orton was putting up some damn good numbers when he was in but you couldn't care less.

You say that your comment “is going to make the peeps mad but true.” Well, I'm calling you out. I don't think what you said is even close to true. In fact, I think its complete and utter crap that you didn't spend even ten minutes thinking about.

  • broncoinva9986

    Amen!

  • robtink242

I'm not agreeing with Milelow but i also disagree with you on Bradstater. What was Tom Brady stats out if college, or Kurt Warner, or Jake Delhomme or even Tony Romo. Three of these guys went undrafted. Three of these guys went to the super bowl. and between them 7 super bowl appearances and 2 future hall of famers. I sorry you just don't know the potential of these players until they are on the field. You mention Leaf & Russell that were high draft picks. Those guys never maid the transition to the NFL and most high draft picks don't.

From 2000 – 2009 we have drafted Deltha O'neal, Willie Middlebrooks, Ashley Lelie, George Foster, DJ Williams, (05 no first pick, 2nd Pick) Darrent Williams, Jay Cutler, Jarvis Moss, Ryan Clady, Knowshon Moreno and Robert Ayers. From that list how many players due we list as bust. DJ Williams, Darrent Williams, Jay Cutler, Ryan Clady are the only ones to have any value. Moreno and Ayers are going through their Rookie Year.

  • steeplebomb

I like Brandstater too. I think he has the potential to perform in this system very well. I'm just tired of all the DUR PUT BRANDSTATER IN DUR comments. Why would anyone expect him to perform at a high level now, in his rookie year? Chris Simms got demolished and he's got more experience.

This season isn't over yet. Not even close. For the time being, the bottom line is that Orton is by far our best option at quaterback.

  • anthony33

Agree…we don’t really know anything about Brandstater at this point and if Simms was this bad as the #2, you have to know TB is no where ready to go.

Simms pissed me off Sunday after the game when he is out there laughing and yukking in up with the Skins. He just played damn near the worst half of football you could possibly play (a 7 rating) and he’s out there smiling and joking around. I don’t want that as my backup.

Orton is our only hope on Sunday along with a better running game that we saw a glimpse of this past week.

I would dump Simms to inactive and move TB to the back up spot even though he is not ready. Why…because Simms does not care and TB can’t be much worse than a 7 rating, so you might as well see what we have now if Orton can’t go…

  • jbirchbronco

I would like to know who all these “FOOLS” are that are coming in here and lobbying for Brandstater. What in the HELL has he done to deserve a shot at starting? Oh, that's right, he had one good PRE-SEASON game against a bunch of 3rd stringers. You've got to be kidding me!! Robtink242, all the crap you're spewing from that pie hole of yours is just that, CRAP!! There's no way in HELL we'd have any chance of winning with Brandstater at QB. Our best chance of playing well is with Orton, whether you HATERS like it or not!! We're currently tied for 1st in our division and own the tie-breaker over San Diego. This game this week is our season and to start Brandstater or Simms in a game this big is absolutely ludicrous. How about you trolls go back to your caves until you can become real fans!!

  • Eagles.

Don't be stupid, your only shot down the stretch is to sit Orton. If he gets hurt again this week because he is not ready then what? The rest of the season with toss it up quarterbacks. Take this one on the chin and start your backup. You never know how it will end up. This is the NFL and players show up usually when they are expected to flop. Next week bring back your 09' goldenboy and get on with your season. Remember its a job to these guys, if your sick and miss a day does everything go to hell at work without you? NO, it only seems like it would. May need to work a little harder when you get back though to get caught up. Look at things logically. Not like a bunch of raging crybaby fans.
