Running back Darius Walker didn’t make the cut, but he has the chance to make it up.

Walker, released this weekend as the team cut their roster to 53 players, is among the 2009 Denver Broncos‘ eight practice squad players. Also on the scout team are TE Marquez Branson, CB Tony Carter, G Mitch Erickson, CB D.J. Johnson, ILB Braxton Kelley, DL Everette Pedescleaux, and WR Matthew Willis. All eight spent training camp and preseason with the Broncos.

Ex-Broncos thought to be strong practice squad candidates that didn’t get picked up include 2009 seventh round draft pick C Blake Schlueter, undrafted rookie WR Nate Swift and undrafted rookie LB Lee Robinson.

Among Broncos cuts, only C Kory Lichtensteiger was claimed through waivers, being rewarded to the Minnesota Vikings. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a claim on DE/OLB Tim Crowder but later rescinded it.

Glad to see Walker sticking around. He’ll be available in a RB pinch. Press release with full player bios after the jump.

Willis is a bit of a surprise as I never thought much of him at UCLA even. I was pulling for Swift to get a chance and hopefully he will elsewhere. Robinson as mentioned in the article was also a favorite. I thought he played well enough to make the PS.
Glad to see Pedescleaux and Walker. I would also like to see Johnson develop as I think he has some upside.

  • soxbigdog

Yeah.. I was thinking Swift might make it.. but Willis as a KR/PR probably gave him the edge… surprised that Walker didnt catch on elsewhere.. but glad to have him as insurance

Funny thing is, Swift was at KR/PR just as much, if not more, than Willis.

That one actually really surprised me.
