Let out a big sigh of relief, Broncos fans. It looks like Knowshon Moreno is going to be okay.

Mike Florio of PFT is reporting that Moreno’s MRI results Saturday revealed a sprained MCL, a much better verdict than an torn ACL, which would have derailed his rookie season.

Depending on the severity of the sprain, Moreno could be day-to-day or out for a few weeks. ESPN’s Bill Williamson reports that it is a “mild” knee sprain, and Moreno should be ready for the regular season opener September 13th.

Moreno rushed for 18 yards on three carries in his NFL debut Friday night, including a nine-yard run on his first carry in orange and blue. But Kyle Orton threw three interceptions and the Broncos fell to the San Francisco 49ers 16-17 in exhibition play.

Meanwhile, the Broncos’ opponent last night also had a running back taken off the field with a leg injury, but he doesn’t appear to have been as lucky. Florio reports that Niners tailback Thomas Clayton does in fact have an ACL tear.

Wow! Thank you! This made it impossible to sleep easy last night. No matter how bad the sprain is i wouldnt mind him sitting out the remainder of the preseason. I understand i sound like an over protective mom right now but i dont think he has anything to prove in preseason. He did ‘hold out’ and he needs a couple weeks to build strength. Im too excited about a hillis/moreno tandem to have it come crashing down before the season even starts.

  • Awesome, Austin

Ah screw Knowshon anyway…all we needed was Hillis!

Oh I’m totally with you NM on the overprotective mom thing. Call me if you’re going to a friend’s house after school, Knowshon, and eat your damn vegetables.

  • DC

Good to see some pass rush last night….Doom absolutely murdered the back on his sack play, Mcbean out hustled his man, Chris Baker just pushed his man back and made a nice play, and Haggan made a nice move on the right tackle. All in all, a decent performance from the broncos D, I am worried about the tight ends against our d, but we should some promise. Offensively KO needs to get his head out of his arce.

NM and Kyle–I agree. Knowshon needs to take care of himself…we’re gonna need him.

Spencer Larsen’s Dad must of been a carpenter because that fool brings wood!!

Knowshon should be fine for the season opener. Denver Post is reporting (I read this off the bottom of the screen on the nfl chanel) that Knowshon should be out 1-2 weeks. But even if they keep him out the rest of the preseason, it doesnt matter. We all know what he is capable of doing, just watch his college film. And is it just me or does he look a hell of a lot bigger and stronger now than he did in college? When he was walking to the locker room, he looked freakin’ huge. Thats a good thing.

And to talk about Denver’s defense, I’m actually excited about what Nolan is doing. Orton sucked last night and threw 3 picks, and yet the Niners only got 9 points. But than again, it is the Niners. There not very good. But the point is that our D had pressure on the opposing QBs a lot, throughout the entire game. So with 3 more preseason games to come along and practice in, I say come season opener our Defense should not be to bad. We should see a lot of sacks and turnovers this season forced by them. And as far as TE’s go against our D, I bet once Dawkins is in the game with our starters, he will be able to fix that problem himself, or by leading his teammates.

The guy on NFL Network made a good point about this. Backs who come in late get hurt more. I hope he comes back and is ready to go but i think it is worth noting.

I don’t know if playing a rb that’s had less than a week of TC was the smartest thing.

And expecting him READY to play wk1, without TC/PS is beyond assinine

    Rhino . . .

    Spot on about Larsen! . . . . I wish we had a half dozen Spencer Larsen’s playing on offense, defense and Special team’s . . . .

This guy doesn’t bitch and moan about anything and he doesn’t care what position he is playing as long as he get’s to knock the crap out of somebody!

Put him in the backfield with Hillis and just let them go punish people! . . . reminds me of Kiick and Czonca . . . not much finesse . . . just punishment! . . .

Hillis reminds me of John Riggin’s . . . . you might tackle him . . . but you will know the rest of the game that you are not looking forward to the present and next day hurtin’ that you will be feeling . . . .

    Let Moreno heal and build his stamina . . . let Hillis . . . Buck . . . and Jordan go stuff some folks . . . and every now and again . . . let Larsen run the ball and put a hurt on somebody . . . . just cuz’ he enjoy’s it! . . . . T
