Ryan Torain

UPDATE: McDaniels told reporters after practice that Torain has been released.

It’s been a tumultuous day for Denver Broncos running backs. The team signed RB Marcus Thomas Wednesday, got Lamont Jordan back to practice from injury, and have reportedly decided to start Knowshon Moreno Friday. Now, ESPN’s Bill Williamson reports that the Broncos have lost Ryan Torain for the 2009 preseason, and possibly longer.

Torain, who was wearing a large knee brace during training camp and missed at least one practice, has reportedly strained the PCL in his left knee.

The Broncos have announced no roster moves – all of these reports are secondhand, but the team would have had to adjust their 80-man roster to add Thomas. Since Torain is expected to miss time, and the team added another RB instead of some other position, it isn’t a stretch to speculate that Torain’s is the roster spot the team adjusted. The team has three options if they want to free up Torain’s spot: waive him, place him on Injured Reserve, or place him on the PUP list. The third option would give Torain the opportunity to come back after Week Six of the regular season.

We will update you either way when we know more, but for the time being, you can connect the dots. Torain missing the preseason, and possibly more, is a logical fit. [Big props to gobronx for the note on the PUP list!]

This is proof that Torain is injury Prone i say cut him and not have to pay his medical bills

  • gobronx

Ouch. I like the guy’s skillset but he is just made of porcelain. So this alleged PCL strain is in the right knee. The left knee was the ACL last year. I’d say he can’t catch a break but it’s one after the other since his senior year at ASU. This dude’s career is in jeopardy.

But rather than cut him or IR him, I believe we could put him on the PUP list through game 6 of the regular season. Correct? I would guess they’ll find a way to let him recover if it’s only a PCL strain.

  • Awesome, Austin

If it is just a strain maybe by the end of the preseason he would be playing?

  • Kyle

You’re correct gobronx, and I’m honestly surprised that skipped my mind. That makes the most sense. Editing post, thanks.

  • Kyle

Awesome – right, but the Broncos added a player, and their roster was already full at 80 guys. Can’t add a guy without taking another off. We don’t know who, but it’s likely Torain based on these reports.

  • gobronx

All good Kyle, I was wondering if you knew something I didn’t. Even so, the PUP list for a PCL strain seems a bit unneccessary. By my rough account, that would put him out for over 12 weeks… Seems like excessive rest for a strain. Maybe they just cut him and move him to developmental if he clears waivers? Wonder if he’s eligible still, he hasn’t seen that much PT in the NFL yet.

I’m very curious to see what kind of move the brass made to clear a spot for the new Marcus Thomas.

  • kerry

wow. who called this one huh everybody?? a simple “you were right kerry” will suffice.

  • kerry

can this Marcus Thomas do a backflip too?? because if he can…………..oh boy he is the next Terrell Davis!!

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

Klis just put up a story at the DPO that contradicts Williamson and says it’s his left knee. That makes more sense, so we’re rolling with Klis.

  • scottey

DP posted “waived” so he is done as a Bronco. Man that is a bummer!

  • CJ

should have been Lamont Jordon to

haha, Kerry you were right…and the backflip comment made me laugh too. you’re 2 for 2 today.

  • kerry

    jchase:

ah thank you. i do what i can. a little entertainment is always a good thing dont you think?

  • gobronx

Sad for Ryan and wish him nothing but good fortune in his future endeavors. I hope he can battle through the last three years of injuries and land somewhere in the NFL where he can make a name for himself. All the talent wrapped in a porcelain body…

  • gobronx

My Momma always said to look for the positives in the negatives… Darius Walker should get the shot to show us his stuff now. Let’s go Darius.

  • kerry

    gobronx:

so is Darrius Walker the new Terrell Davis now?

  • http://myspace.com/paraleipsis jchase8410

    Kerry…No, because he can’t do a backflip

  • Mav_PM

Would have been fun to see Terrell backflip before and after the Mile High Salute. And maybe a few times on the way back to the bench.

  • gobronx

Back flip is old news. 300 pounders can do it with ease. The front flip with a twist is the new backflip. Gerald Wilhite aint got nothing on the first Bronco to celebrate with a front flip with a twist…

  • gobronx

    Kerry:

    Knowshon is the new Terrell…

  • Nisse

kerry, the backflip whining will hount you for a long time.

but yes, you where right about torain. anymore inside information about bronco players health issues btw?

“Moreno didn’t just jump on Brandon Stokley’s back to celebrate the slot receiver’s touchdown catch Monday. Moreno pushed off Stokley’s shoulders and leaped completely over his head. ”

this moreno guy is one crazy freak of nature. he MUST be the next Terrell Davis! without a doubt!
