1st and only concert at Red Rocks was Smokin Grooves 1997, senior year, the whole crew ditched school and had each spent our mornings rolling the necessary essentials for such a concert. The line up was sick, A tribe called quest, Busta Rhymes, The Fugees, Cypress Hill, and Ziggy Marley. I pretty much blew my load getting as close to up front for Tribe, Busta joined them on stage for a few "leaders of the new school/tribe" classics. Unfortunately by the time Cypress Hill and Ziggy Marley hit the stage, I was too blitted to remember much. I remember waking up at the wheel about 5 minutes away from my moms condo in Aurora late that night.

That same year I got to watch the Broncos go on there redemption run through the playoffs. I was at the wild card game vs Jacksonville getting redemption for the previous years home field melt down. Then with all the boys got to watch us get redemption for earlier season losses to KC and Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, I ended up graduating high school at semester that year and moved out to California the week before the super bowl, and while I watched that game with bronco fans in LA, it was very sad to listen to all of the crew celebrating over the phone. A very bittersweet day for me.

I too was also in attendance last year at the Meadowlands, and boy would that game have been miserable had we lost, however I rode bus to subway to subway soaking wet all the way home to Brooklyn, feeling nothing but pure joy.

As for concerts

I agree with you on wishing I could have seen the band, I watch the Last Waltz semi-annually. My mother also saw Hendrix twice, and I would have enjoyed that as well. As for what I have seen

Springsteen- 2002 the greatest. (quite jealous of your bonaroo trip)
Elton John/Billy Joel 2003
Muse-ACL 2007these guys are amazing live
Rage Against the Machine, with The Roots '97 Fiddlers Green
DeVotchka- Denver 2007
Lollapalooza 94- Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest
Ben Harper- California 2006

As for worlds colliding, how about my love for Iced Coffee, Great Music, and the Denver Broncos colliding in a small coffee shop in Manhatten with a heavily bearded baristo wearing an Elway throw back that had definitely been worn in ensuing in a half hour discussion of the pros and cons of this years draft preventing anyone else from being served for quite a time. Thanks brother.

Thanks JKK . . . I feel blessed . . . I love music . . . love to play it . . . love to see it performed . . . read my blog at #5 if you missed it . . .

It’s odd also the regret that I feel for having missed a show I could have seen . . .

I was at my uncle’s in upstate N.Y. in Katonah . . . but did not go to Woodstock because of the rain and crappy traffic conditions ( showed on tv) . . . .

I was in Vicenza, Italy and had the opportunity to go to the Munich Music Festival . . . didn’t go because of a party in town and didn’t want to do the few hour drive . . . .
I missed Stephen Stills “Manassas” and Pink Floyd “Welcome To The Machine” . . . .

Although I’ve seen Steely Dan . . . Little Feat . . . and Blue Oyster Cult . . . I’ve never seen some of my favorite bands . . . the Grateful Dead . . . Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks . . . . never seen U2 . . . . Phish . . . . or the Eagles . . . .

The point I’m trying to make to you young guns . . . . If you get the opportunity to see a band that you really love their music . . . . go and see it . . . . if you think you want to go or know you want to go . . . . go and see it . . . don’t create excuses NOT to . . . don’t take no for an answer . . . . go and see it . . . .

Or I can guarantee that thirty or forty years from now . . . . you WILL look back just like
I have and say, “WTF was I thinking,” . . . . . all the Best . . . . . T

Tom, it sounds like you've seen some amazing musicians, that's truly an amazing list. Nothing like knowing your witnessing something that will always stick with you.

Easty,Temple
We could have gone years knowing that we all loved the Broncos and never knew about our 3eb obsession, I myself really enjoy the band and have seen them play a ton. Keep the posts coming here guys, let's try to get more of the people involved, They really are awesome to read.

JT,

Ursa Major is coming out soon. Have you checked out their Red Star EP? It's really good. I totally agree too about Out of the Vein, that is one of my most treasured albums.

East, I'm glad somebody shares my love for 3EB. Out of the Vein is one of the most underrated albums in a long time. They need to record new stuff!

J. Kenneth. K . . . . that one photo has unleashed a thousand words . . . .

I guess it’s time to bio-up . . . . ( maybe this should be a thread in this downtime) . . . .
I’m 56 yrs. old . . . four yrs. at Metropolitan State College and two years at Colorado Tech. University . . . . twenty five yrs. semiconductor process equipment engineer . . . now I’m doing electronic surveillance at a casino in Cripple Creek, CO . . . .

I have been to Red Rocks forty times . . . aside from the shows . . . I actually played there with a friend . . . and by mid afternoon . . . there were two hundred people still having a good time . . . .

The very first show was John Denver . . . the Rocky Mountain High Tour . . . the second was John Denver . . . the Back Home Again Tour . . . .

There was no seating assignment . . . . general admission . . . we’d sit ten rows up and wait ‘till the ticket guys crisscrossed and move down to the first row . . . . got to see both shows for free . . . .

I play guitar/vocals and play harmonica . . . I was playing harp during the afternoon in about the fifteenth row ( Back Home Again) and there was a tap on my shoulder . . . it was John Denver . . . he said, “ you sound great . . . keep everyone happy!” . . . .

He handed me a guitar pick . . . . which I still have . . . John’s t-shirt and jeans were torn and he was getting ready to do a sound check . . . .

The show was one of the most memorable things in my life . . . . so I kept coming back to Red Rocks . . .

Name the band . . . Stephen Stills ( when he stopped the show to tell the silhouettes on the rock’s up above to please be careful ) . . . Marshall Tucker . . . Climax Blues Band . . . Charlie Daniels . . . Bonnie Raitt . . . Rusted Root . . .

Sting . . . . three times . . . and the Soul Cages Tour was just awesome . . . .

But absolutely by far the best show I have seen consistently that will rock you . . . four times that I have been there . . . .

The Allman Brothers Band . . . . this show is in a class by itself . . . . I don’t even know if they still go out on tour . . . but I consider Greg Allman and Dicky Betts two of the best I will have ever seen in my lifetime . . . .

And these are just the shows at Red Rocks . . . .

Chicago ( Carnegie Hall) . . . Joe Walsh and the James Gang ( Carnegie Hall )

I’ve seen Jimi Hendrix at the Fillmore East ( when they handed out hit’s of orange sunshine at the door) . . . . Santana and Grand Funk Railroad ( with Mark Farner’s twenty minute version of “Mean Misstreater”) . . . .

Frank Zappa and the Mother’s of Invention ( Waka-Jawaka – Hot Rat’s) . . . . Yes ( twice . . . once on the “Fragile” tour and once in Italy on the “Close To The Edge Tour,” . . . . along with the original Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull . . . both “Aqualung” and “Thick as a Brick” . . . .

Joe Walsh . . . ZZ Top . . . The Beach Boy’s . . . America . . . . Elvin Bishop . . . Crosby, Still’s, Nash and Young (twice). . . Deep Purple . . . Foghat . . . Cactus . . . Hot Tuna . . .
Tab Benoit ( five times) . . . . Eric Johnson ( at the Rack n’ Roll in Colorado Springs ) . . . Johnny Winters ( twice) . . .

And fortunately I can’t remember the other half . . . .

But I feel blessed . . . . I have seen the best in my lifetime . . . literally . . . and all you young guns out there can only hope to see such entertainment in yours . . . all the best . . .

Thanks for the photo J. . . . . . T

I've been a HUGE Third Eye Blind fan my whole life. I've missed out on tickets to other concerts because they sell in minutes. Just this past year I finally got to see them at Virginia Tech. I had to wake up extra early and wait for them to go on. The tickets went on sale at like 6am, but I was ready. Even though I got my tickets at 6:01 am I still was in row K. Row K however is a lot better than row ZZ.

Anyways, the concert was amazing. Musically, they did not disappoint. The lead singer Stephen Jenkins is one of the most infectious people you will ever meet. By the end of the concert it was almost like you e did with that time. Consistently great from his rookie season through his fourth season, Terrell Davis left me scratchy throated Sunday after Sunday. What a great feeling it were under his hypnosis. Since I've been listening to Third Eye Blind since I was way way way young this was like the culmination of fan-hood. Between being nine years old and listening to them before going to bed as a child to blasting them in my first car at 16. It was a great feeling indeed.
