Folks, Adam Schefter reported this one. During their meeting on friday Brandon Marshall asked owner Pat Bowlen for a trade. Bowlen asked Marshall to consider whether he wants an extension or a trade, and according to PFT, “Marshall is expected to stick to his guns.” Wow. I’m speechless… sort of.

I’m not too mad about this because of all the problems Marshall presents to the team. However I will be furious if he goes to the Bears. If Marshall is traded, at least Denver is guaranteed an increase in original value seeing how he was a 4th round pick. Denver could lose a diva of a QB and a trouble maker of a wideout this offseason. Man the other blogs will definitely say Denver is done for if Marshall leaves. More to come.

What do you think Denver? Should Brandon Marshall be traded?

  • Boisebroncoguy

Wow! I know one thing, I am never buying another jersey. The last 3 I bought were Cutler, Marshall, and Portis.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

I was on NFL.com doing the live chat with Rich Eisen and I asked him the following:

    What’s up with Brandon Marshall?

    Rich Eisen, NFL Network:

Very good question. I’m wondering the same thing. He is clearly not happy about a) his contract b) losing his Pro-Bowl quarterback and c) losing his Pro-Bowl quarterback in a walk year that he probably never thought his team would allow him to get to. All of the above apply and if he has indeed demanded a trade, as reported, then I am all over him like white on rice. Forget Plax. THIS is the guy (with off-field baggage, yes) that I would go get immediately. And he has the hammer with the Broncos. How in the world could they explain the loss of both him AND Cutler in the same offseason?

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

    Oh yeah…

    HERE WE GO AGAIN

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

Here are a few more that keep poping up:

do you think the bears sould pursue plaxico burress?

    Rich Eisen, NFL Network
I think the Bears should pursue Brandon Marshall. ASAP. Give the Broncos all the draft picks they didn’t give them in the Cutler trade.

I’ve heard that the Raiders may try for Brandon Marshall. I think its good! What do you think?

    Rich Eisen, NFL Network
I think Marshall would be fantastic for any team, especially the Raiders. But with the Broncos controlling the situation, that will never EVER happen. And I mean never.

    Is Cutler overrated?

    Rich Eisen, NFL Network
That is a really good question. Every single player or evaluator I’ve spoken to LOVES the way he throws the ball. And believes he has the ability to be a once-in-a-lifetime talent. What he is, for sure, is a guy that you should NOT let go of at age 25 with a couple salary cap friendly years left on his deal. But, he definitely has some wins he needs to book, playoff wins mind you, before we start putting him up there with the top talents in this league with regularity. He’s got his work cut out for him.

I don’t know what to think. I hope this is just media driven.

  • Brian

The reciever always proved to be a heck of a player on the field however he has also proved irresponsibl for his actions off. He also has some potntially career hampering injuries to deal with. I hate to say it, trade him now as we could get someone who wants to be a Bronco that could contribute. Too bad as it seems the love of ones own self over rules to dedication or loyalty to the teamand fellow teammates. I say get rid of his ass and give Clady and Royal a bonus and call it the Marshall Plan. Don’t let the door hit you on the ass and oh yeah, watch out for that Mc Donald’s wrapper.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ben

Were not gunna trade him and even if we do I heard on espn that we were 1 of 3 teams that could land buress

  • Andpark

Man, what a crappy off season. Bowlen set a big precedent when he let Cook/ Cutler bully their way to get a trade and now look what is happening, chaos. I understand why Marshall is upset but this is really out of control. Is McD really that unlikable and untrustworthy? Who knows.

Please refrain from trading him, talk some sense into him and make him work the last year of his contract. Cannot see why it would be good to trade him now.

  • jcampb72

All you McD lovers out there can kiss my A$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

It just doesn’t stop, I said it in my last comments in the other thread. Let’s pick up Plaxico and see if there’s interest in Arizona for Marshall.

  • jcampb72

I’m dumbfounded. I can’t believe this is happening to my team. Hey McDaniels, is there anything you would like to say to the fans of the denver broncos?

  • roshon2411

First Cutler, now Marshall. Is there anyone who wants to play for McDaniels? Denver’s running out of Pro Bowler’s to trade.

  • CJ

WOW!! i say trade his a$$! Anquan Boldin straight up! ahah not likely but i would be pleased

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

“Denver could lose a diva of a QB and a trouble maker of a wideout this offseason”

Or you could just say there two best players…

  • jcampb72

I think Bowlen needs to take his role as owner more seriously. We are starting to become the laughing stock of the NFL.

  • merc22

Marshall for Boldin. They play the same way! Wouldnt miss a beat with boldin

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

    I call shannanigans on McDaniels…

AND if McDaniels gives us the whole “you can’t have a guy like that on your team” speech then I call double shannanigans because you kept Randy Moss on the Patriots.

  • NathanH47

If we trade him, we better get someone that will impact the team as much as he does on the field. If not, Seattle will be pickin top 5 next year with our pick. I haven’t had a huge problem with the changes this off season, or the draft for the most part, but McDaniels probably made a TERRIBLE decision in the Alphonso Smith trade.

Orton’s transition will be much, much more difficult without Marshall. Who’s the #1? Not Royal in McD’s offense, probably Gaffney, which is a considerable down grade.

And to those of you saying Boldin, that doesn’t make any sense because Marshall would want an immediate contract from the team he’d be traded too, and he wants as much money as Boldin at least. Arizona doesn’t want to give it to an upstanding soilder like Boldin, i’m sure they don’t want to give it to a guy that is one F up away from missing a half season.

I think he’s using this as leverage for his contract, and I hope we can work something out with him. If we trade him, we likely will suck this year, and that really pisses me off because next years top 5 is great, and thats likely where we’d be picking if we traded Marshall at this point.

I can’t see any team giving up their defensive superstar for Marshall right now, and it really doesn’t help us that his offseason stuff lowers his trade value. I don’t really want picks for him unless we got a lucrative 1st, along with a barrage of other picks.

If Roy Williams went for a 1st and multiple picks than B-Marsh should garner much more. I would just hate to see us take picks for him when we traded OUR 1st which will be pretty high if Marshall is gone for picks. Mind boggling. Please sign him Bowlen, PLEASE.

  • kerry

hmm. so who wants to bash me now for saying McDaniels is ruining this team?? because in case anyone hasnt noticed because they are in too much of a kool-aid drunken stupor, thast exactly what is happening. i dont buy for one second he is holding out for more money. he knows this is a sinking ship, his numbers will take a serious hit and he wants out.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

How is this exactly McDaniels fault?

Marshall is not just unhappy with the Cutler ordeal, he is mad about the way the Denver training staff handled his injury last season. That doesn’t sound like McDaniels fault to me. Marshall wants the big money and immediately. I doubt they let him go but anything can happen. I don’t doubt that Marshall isn’t considering a trade but a nice little threat for that contract also isn’t out of the question. Hell you can pay any player to play for any team. History has taught us that money makes all relationships better. Even Jay would of high fived McDaniels with a fat contract.

    Mark,
The two best players on the team? I was unaware that Champ Bailey and D.J. Williams had died.

Seriously ask Marshall or Cutler what the playoffs are like and they’ll tell you that CBS does a great job of covering the game. Ask Bailey and he’ll tell you that it’s real hard to pick of Tom Brady in the end zone and run it back for 99 yards.

I seriously don’t get how this one is 100% pinned on McDaniels. Marshall obviously have extreme character flaws, this incident proves that it runs deeper than we thought. It was digusted by the way Cutler treated his teammates with the things he publicly said about leaving, this proves Marshall is the same way. I guess when Eddie Royal said that Brandon and him were like Brothers Marshall didn’t feel the same way. If Marshall leaves I hope they both have the same network.

  • NathanH47

Yea, i agree this can’t be attributed to McD. If anything it’s Bowlen’s for not having a gauge on how much Cutler would react to Shanny being let go, and for not pulling out the check book for Marhall because this is all about money for him.

  • Roy

I love how this is all McDaniels fault. Seeing as how he was in our training room last year, after all. Of course his numbers are going to take a hit, he just had hip surgery. I don’t think this has much to do with his QB is, either. It is yet another case of a spoilet rotten problem child biting the hand that feeds him.

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

@East – You are entitled to believe that Champ and DJ are better than Cutler and Marshall if you want. But I don’t. And just because they have seen the playoffs, doesn’t make them better. If you were starting a team and took Champ and DJ over Cutler and Marshall I would disagree.

Cutler and Marshall are still just kids…

  • KMA

Broncos just signed Brandon LLoyd, from Chicago. Orton’s most productive receiver (not saying much). Does this guy even make the final roster? Does this have anything to do with the B-Marsh deal? Anybody else hearing anything?

  • Matt

Anyone who thinks this is McDaniels’ fault is an absolute moron.

  • Estes2SD

The guy lead the league in dropped passes! How many big fumbles did he have? He belongs somewhere else. By the way, I know it is just the Pro Bowl?!?! But who else was embarrased by the talent Cutler and BMarsh showed in Hawaii? Didn’t Cutler throw a game ending pick and Bmarsh drop a couple touchdown passes? I say take that talent and horrible attitudes to another team.

  • Andpark

This signing today does not look good for Marshall staying. This is crazy.

Champ and DJ are good and playoff experience means something but if we lose both Cutler and Marshall this off season that is quite an amazing turn of events. 2 young pro bowlers gone, are we trying to become the laughing stock of the league. How did this get this bad?

I am trying to stay positive but man I miss Shan a lot today.

    Marshall trade request was predictable

    June 15, 2009 6:20 PM

    Posted by ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson

Truthfully, I’ve been expecting it to come to this since Brandon Marshall didn’t show up for the Denver Broncos’ mandatory minicamp Friday.

The next step was for Marshall to ask for a trade. And that’s what was reported Monday. The Broncos didn’t have a comment on it and Marshall’s agent hasn’t returned a phone call. If it wasn’t true, I’d imagine folks would be jumping to deny it. So far, it’s been quiet.

It makes sense. When players stay away from a team, often a trade request follows.

I think Marshall thinks it’s the next step. He had he has medical trust issues and he wants a pay raise. Marshall’s contract expires after next season. Marshall had hip surgery in March and he won’t be able to practice until training camp starts late next month. Still, he was required to rehabilitate at the camp.

The development is another mistake by Marshall. He doesn’t have any leverage. The Broncos do not want to trade him. The Broncos, which will probably put the franchise tag on Marshall next spring, could tire of him at the end of the season and let him walk, but they wants him to be in Denver.

Marshall has three options: Report to camp and be a team player and go out and have another huge year; he could holdout all season and lose $2 million or he can report and be a problem player. The last two options don’t help him. The first option does. He get paid and paid well if he plays this season if he doesn’t get in any more legal trouble, of course.

Reporting to camp is his only option.

So, a trade request may not be taken seriously by Denver. This thing could continue to spin out of control as did the Jay Cutler fiasco. The difference between this and the Cutler issue is that it was a two-sided fight. Both sides made mistakes.

The Marshall issue is all on him. Denver is not at fault in this situation.

Again, anything can happen, but the likely scenario here is that Marshall holds out for a good chunk of training camp and then he’ll report in time for the start of the season. It may be his only real option.

  • kerry

alright we signed Brandon Lloyd!!! yes!! another free agent loser for this team. it been a few weeks since we signed one of those. im sure the Lloyd/Rod Smith comparisons will be coming shortly. afterall Lloyd was signed by the Broncos so he must be great! all hail McDaniels!!!

  • Roy

You are right about one thing Mark- Cutler and Marshal are still just kids. Petulant, immature, egotistical children. I am really getting sick and tired of watching grown men get paid millions for playing a game and acting like they are entitled. I think they could do with a little perspective by a healthy dose of soup kitchen duty followed by a USO tour to a warzone. Maybe that would give them some perspective.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

    RUMOR: Brandon Marshall to Baltimore for a 1st and a 3rd. /RUMOR

  • MileHigh55

If by chance we trade the second coming of Crybaby Cutler in Crybaby Marshall then I say we just let him sit until the final moment and then trade him away after all the fines he gets he should be leaving penniless.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

PERFECT. Let’s put more draft picks in Mcd’s hands. Not players. That would be stupid.

  • kerry

    Ian:

where did said rumor come from? link?

  • NathanH47

EVERYONE NEEDS TO TAKE A DEEP BREATH.

We haven’t had a hold out in Denver in a while but trade requests are pretty damn common. Philly’s had 3 probowlers ask for trades this offseason, and it hasn’t been a huge deal because it’s common for their franchise. It’s not a huge deal and Marshall has very little leverage. We won’t trade him for nothing, we could pull a Keyshawn on him and let him ride the bench in his contract year(he won’t do that if he’s a competitor.

Denver is calling his bluff right now and will eventually give him a contract if they’re smart, if not, he’ll likely play out his contract unhappy, and than we’ll tag and trade him next year. So everyone just f’ing relax.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

If it were a Brandon Marshall for Boldin trade, I feel like we’d need to include a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

  • NathanH47

Read my 1st post about Boldin, it makes absolutely no sense for the Cards. Or us really because Boldin wants money just like Marshall does, it makes more sense for us to just pay him. This is protocol for a hold out.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money
  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

How can you miss Shanahan? The man who let every amazing DE Denver had go into free agency and signed guys like Sam Adams.

This Brandon Llyod deal was probably going to happen anyways with or without the Marshall deal.

    Mark,
How are they not? D.J. Williams is still a kid, he jus doesn’t act like one. Champ Bailey is a hall of famer. Marshall gets in trouble with he law and Cutler cries when his coach wants to trade him. Bailey was in the same exact position.

Widerecievers are a dime a dozen in the NFL. How many of them “elite” wide receivers have complained and caused problems for their respective teams this offseason? T.O., Plaxico, B-Marsh, Boldin, Braylon Edwards, and Tory Holt to name a few.

Marshall is one step away from an eight game suspension this fall and they should pay him how much? I can’t believe has has the balls to ask for a fat contract after coming out of rehab for a second offseason in a row. There are still rumors that his left hand is numb from nerve damage. Marshall had a whole ESPN special about how terrible of a person he is just a week or so ago, and he asks to get paid or traded. Wow, what character.

Hell if it can happen Denver should trade Marshall along with somehing for Terrell Suggs or Ngata. Suggs has played for Nolan and they are some of the best 3-4 players in the league. The Ravens want to accomodate Joe Flacco badly, let them do it.

  • jcampb72

    Me too

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

Suggs would be freaking sweet. But it will never happen. I think Marshall will be in Denver this season. There’s just not enough compensation.

  • kerry

if Baltimore offered up Haloti Ngata then we would have to pull the trigger on that deal!!

  • kerry

    T-money:

thanks for the link. but its from Mike Florio. lol. thats like asking a tree if its knows about the rumors.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

    Kerry~

I hate the freaking website. All they do is think of random shit and post it. I agree with you.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    kerry,

I feel you on Florio, but he does have some serious connections. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Marshall is a Raven if and only if McDaniels can get a good deal out of it. I can see Mike Nolan just being like “Yeah I’ve coached that guy… that guy… that guy… and that guy.” It will be good to have an inside look if the Ravens are serious about Marshall. Man I hope they love Flacco enough to give up Ngata or Suggs.

  • MileHigh55

http://cbs4denver.com/broncos/nfl.denver.broncos.2.1045781.html going to this link will give you story on Marshall and a video interview with Reggie Rolling on the Rivers.

  • ryan

Yeah and Josh just made a gem of a signing in nabbing Brandon Lloyyd. Now we can all rest easy about this Marshall thing

  • http://www.search-this.com mark

@East – I like Champ and DJ too, but I thought we were just talking talent not boy scout badges. If character is a question then half the guys in the NFL we don’t want…

Why is it so hard to just give him a new contract? How many guys do we sign to this team that just plain suck? Guys that don’t make it through training camp or just take up space. It’s a long list. We give millions to these guys.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    Mark,
Widerecievers a dime a dozen in the NFL. Next years draft class is real deep with them too. Why should Denver pay guy who has lingering health issues and massive character issues?

  • broncoNM

NathanH is right…a trade for boldin doesnt make much sense. One good question i saw was: Who would be our #1 WR? I love our depth at WR but bmarsh is our only true #1… BUT i dont mind the trade rumors. Marshall’s value is high right now and i dont think the FO feels comfortable paying him top Wideout money… he is hurt and is a trainwreck off the field. There are alot of teams looking for WR’s… im all for listening to offers. The giants, bears, ravens, eagles, redskins all have some draft picks and talent on the defensive side of the ball. If we could get a quality DT or LB for marshall im all for it. If we dont like any offers we dont have to trade him. This off season has to end soon… all this is gonna give me a friggin ulser.

  • MileHigh55

A TEAM doesn’t need a #1 receiver a TEAM needs players to play together as a TEAM. On a TEAM 1 player goes no where with out the TEAM. Bye Bye Marshall , I players need not apply in Broncoland where a TEAM is being put together.

  • jcampb72

Ngata would be ok, but I would want a 3rd as well.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

It would probably be Marshall a 3rd and Ngata if Denver is lucky.

  • broncoNM

Im all for team players…But in the NFL you need a #1 WR. Im not saying it has to be marshall but he is the closest we have to a #1. Orton is going to need help keeping possesion and moving the chains… he needs a #1 WR for that. Think of what plax did for eli. It doesnt have to be marshall but if we trade him we will have to find another guy somewhere else because you dont want to put that kind of pressure on royal, stokely or gaffney. Those guys are GREAT but are not there yet.

  • kerry

    East:

Ngata would be awesome to have. a 6’4, 345 pound NT would be perfect.

and yeah Florio may have connections, but he also has a huge bias against the Broncos. and florio is still a jackhole. but i better not talk too bad about his site, he may come lurking here to defend his site against me like John Bena did. lol

  • kerry

here is what makes me laugh, with Marshall Orton is “ALLEGEDLY” gonna be awesome, yet if Marshall goes then people are gonna be worried about Orton. PFFTT. if Orton is so good and McDaniels is such a genius then the Broncos dont need Marshall right?

  • Nicole

    Not again!
Look, everyone is entitled to their opinion as to whether or not he should stay, but there are things going on at Dove Valley (and every other franchise for that matter) that would probably leave us speechless. One of the things to remember is that trading Jay started this “turn of events” and this is why a “seasoned” GM would’ve aided the broncos. Every team has player personnel problems but the players aren’t always traded away. I lived through all this drama and I was hoping that the bronco fans wouldn’t have to repeat the process. you can have a great plan, but you do need a certain level of talent at certain positions.I won’t hold BMarsh’s and Jay’s incidents against them because there are things that happened that we don’t know about. Basically, the flood gate has been opened and it may take a while to close it again.

  • jcampb72

I would never trade bmarsh and a 3rd for Ngata. They pay difference between the two alone wouldn’t be a good trade straight up.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    Kerry,

J’Vonne Parker is bigger than that, I’m not saying he’s good, I’m saying we need a star NT.

I’m more comfortable with Orton behind our offensive line than then recieving corps. If this was Ryan Clady I’d be going nuts.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    jcampb,

B-Marsh for Ngata straight up would be a huge steal. An amazing defensive linemen like Ngata would do wonders for Denver’s talented secondary. Champ Bailey would be able to breathe for once and start making plays again.

  • Andpark

    East_
I miss Shan bringing some sort of stability to this team (good draft picks, bad draft picks, stupid trades and all). He did bring a mediocre QB to 13-3 and the AFC Championship game. I am accepting change but can’t say I don’t miss that guy.

    broncoNM_
Ulcer, I know because I am getting one also.

    MileHigh55_
Yes the Broncos do need a #1 WR. Royal is a badass but not ready to be #1, we will need someone other than Lloyd and Gaffney.

I for one really want Marshall to stay, listen to offers but we need him as much as he needs a big season this year.

  • jcampb72

    J’Vonne is 6’4 325

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

Could have sworn the guy was 6’6.

  • jcampb72

I don’t know how that would be a huge steal. A top 5 linemen thats paid like one for a top 5 WR thats paid like a 5th rounder. That sounds pretty fair to me.

  • NathanH47

jcamp, do you not realize that if we keep B-Marsh or trade him, he’s gonna get paid this summer? Because that bargain contract is the reason for all this fuss.

  • postalmoose

People. relax! Look at the reality here. Shanny left a team full of immature knuckleheads, misfits and low talent guy(especially on defense and ST) and now that Bowlen has decided to make guys accountable with a new coach the wimps are runing away. Marshall for all his talent catching the ball scored six TD’s and is prone to fumble. Not to mention his off the field garbage(13 contacts or arrest by the cops in four years). The TEAM , I repeat the TEAM will be better off without his dumb ass and think if they give him a new contract and he gets arrested again and suspended. Is all that worth it to have him. The Broncos can get some value for him as someone is always willing to give up picks for a goofball like him. How about Dallas? Anyway I applaud the new direction Bowlen is taking this team all the upheaval to me is the result of going from a coach who had lost his mojo to a new young guy who is all about personal accountability. I will take that any day over what was going on before. All we have to do is hang strong and let all this play out. It is going to take a couple of years for Josh McDaniels and Xanders and Bowlen to bring this all together. I BELIEVE IN WHAT THEY ARE DOING!

  • DepressedSF

Guys, I just wanted to say don’t dismiss Brandon Lloyd as loser player. Here in San Fran I had to watch a lot of horrible football, but the only thing worth watching was Lloyd. The guy has amazing hands and would week in and week out make some of the most amazing catches I’ve ever seen. If he’s healthy he’ll be a big asset in the right system.

    Great low risk signing.

  • robtink242

    Postalmoose
one thing i’ve notice is Shanny had control over these KIDS. We are gettin over ourselves again. Kerry that trade to Baltimore is a dream i would love is but i question our coach and GM decsion making. We are in a good position again if we trade him we can get quality in return and if we keep him that values us also.

One thing is forsure our front office went from best to worst in a OFFseason.

  • robtink242

Hey we still can get Peppers if we trade our number one and get Haloti Ngata with BMarsh along with Ares. that would bring major clarity to our DL. but hey i guess we could of trade Cutler for Peppers and recieve a 2nd or 3rd. But hey our GM & Coach combo has to be the worst at clutch times

  • postalmoose

I don’t get how you can say they are the worst in one offseason? Can no one give these guys a chance to show what they can do over the long haul? Remember it was Cutler that asked to be traded and now Brandon wants to go. How is that the coach or front offices fault. And what control did Shanny have over these guys? Brandon got arrested most of those times on Shanny’s watch. How about Travis Henry? He took a lot of risks and they blew up and literally cost the team. I am willing to give these guys chance that is all I am saying!

  • alm034

Trade him while he has some value. I’m tired of this mess.

  • jcampb72

Nathan- I know, the broncos hold all the cards.

  • Matt

alm – he has 0 value right now if anything.

an injured criminal doesn’t get you much.

  • stav

All I know is that after Cutler got traded SOMEONE went on NFL Access and talked about the team, team, team. SOMEONE said how he’s just going to do what Coach McDaniels says and be a leader. SOMEONE basically played the role of of loyal company man. And now? I haven’t posted in a while but this is ridiculous. He has the audacity to point fingers at the training staff regarding his injury issues? That there’s trust issues? How about there’s trust issues with him vs. management and him vs. teammates? His off-field behavior is selfish and puts the team secondary. This is a pure money grab, and if he wants to play this game they should let him ROT, as they should of with Cutler. They have all the power here, and as I said a few weeks ago and as I’m sure has been mentioned a few times already, both he and his agent see the writing on the wall, his stats will be significantly reduced with this new system. The numbers will be spread across the board in a balanced attack, maybe not a dangerous one, but a well-balanced offense with a RUNNING GAME. For someone who drops a ton of passes and has more career ARRESTS than his career high for TD’s in a year, he needs to wake up, he’s in a bad spot here.

On the other side, the NFL is brutal. Contracts are meaningless without the guaranteed money, and if you overperform you do have reason to want to re-negotiate. In his potential walk year (unless it comes down to the CBA adding 2 more for free agency), you could see why he’d want to be locked up, and it many ways it does make sense to lock him up another 5-6 years. That being the case, this is what I’d like to see, a performance based (on and off the field) contract. A base of $4.5 a year – $250k bonuses each for attaining 85+ catches, 1200 yds, 10+ combined TDs, ProBowl appearance, and a $500k bonus if he attains that complete line which means $6mill in total. In the same vein, additional arrests nullify $500K in bonuses. Make him earn his money because he’s never going to see those numbers now. Maybe with this type of contract he’ll actually hold onto the ball. From his past record does he deserve a re-negotiation? I think we all can say yes to that, but a re-negotiation that has several safety nets for the Broncos as this guy can’t stay away from the back of cop cars.

If he wants to play hardball, again let him rot on the bench or at home. Make him suffer for the holdout as we hold all the leverage, let’s finally use it.

  • http://broncotalk.net/2009/06/marshall-asked-bowlen-for-a-trade/#comments jjlowe86

look i think that we will end up gettin the shaft if we let him go mike would not let shit get this out of hand McD need to go back to new engiland

  • Matt

Get this out of hand? Of course not.. He would’ve sat there and been happy of 10 more years of mediocrity.

I’m all for shedding any guys who aren’t on board with McD… even though they claimed they were not more than just a month or two ago.

    Marshall’s a clown.

  • gilbert jauregui

    Ah shit here we again

  • Ari Fox

See, they are changing the whole identity of the team. Not just players, but our identity. My team has always been one that didnt pop up un the news for stupid trade demands and a bunch of drama. Now, thats all that I hear about!!! McDaniels needs to get his shit together cuz I refuse to watch a new england transplant come into our house, family, and history and fumble/bumble his way through a contract. None of Belichicks assistants have had ANY real success and I dont think thats gonna change with this guy. If we lose Marshall too, I want coach fired ASAP!!!! We’re the broncos. We are and always have been above this type of nonsense. Get it together. Fast.

  • kerry

    robtink:

yeah Ngata would be awesome, but havent you heard the news?? McDaniels doesnt believe in actual talent. he believes in his system and not talent. so by tomorrow Marshall will be playing on a different team and we will have gotten some journeymen backup D-line and a long snapper. because its not about talent anymore, its about smart players and the system. look for the entire O-line to be dealt tomorrow for a new ice cream machine for McDaniels office. sprinkles included of course.

  • broncoNM

Ya what could McD be thinking?? Getting smart, good character players who believe in the system. That has yet to work for the patriots and steelers…

  • http://broncotalk.net (dee)

Trade him…. he seems really worried about his hip and our training staff, but didnt seem worried about his ex girlfriends face.

    I’ll take a 1st and 3rd for him.

  • kerry

    broncoNM:
here is a newsflash good character doesnt get you SB titles. talent gets you SB titles. you can have a whole team of boyscouts and it still wont matter.

but unlike the Steelers and Patriots, we are devoid of talent at truely important positions like QB and NT and DE.

  • Anthony

He’s not getting traded. Chad johnson has been trying to get traded out of Cincy for 5 years now. WR’s don’t have the leverage that QB’s do. How about Boldin, he’s asked for a trade as well.

It’s all a ploy, because he was supposed to be a free agent next year, he realized that there will be an uncapped year, which means we will have his rights for 2 more years at a very reasonable price. He also realizes that he may not put up the numbers with Kyle Orton, which will cause him to lose even more money, it’s a business people. On top of that he has a possible long-term suspension for another slip up. So while I’m not defending the guy, I kind of understand the situation. Anyone have any thoughts? How about Marshall and a pick for Anquan Boldin, it’s fun to dream sometimes.

  • http://cdn0.sbnation.com/profile_images/111140/La_La_Mascot.jpg WhidbeyBronco

dee, have you seen her face?
Nice looking out for the guy! If he hit her he’d be IN JAIL!!!!
    Hello?
She hit him! But that’s ok right?
He DOESN’T WANT TO PLAY HERE!
Since when do people NOT WANT TO PLAY FOR THE BRONCOS?!!!!

    Since this year!

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

I wonder what information Rod Smith had that Brandon Marshall needed… We may never know, if a trade for Marshall gives Denver a first round, that in turn would allow Denver to TRADE for a player like Boldin or even an incredibly gifted defensive linemen.

  • robtink242

good charactor the steelers and patriots have some of the meanest straight out dirty front sevens. have you ever saw vince wilfork beat on defenseless players or when james harrison beat up that cardinal player during the SB. This is football, charactor is off the grid iron. thats why we were treated like little boys. Future HOF shannon sharpe constanly insulted the opposing team. Ray Lewis and his crew are gangster. harrison and his boys are commanders. D.J Williams and company and cadets.

  • Olen

How many times did Marshall drop an important pass ? If he stays his attitude will probably be pouty and bitch about not getting enough balls thrown his way . It is hard when you have a team of horses and one is not cooperating in the process . Kobe got along without Shaq . Poor example but , I would hate to think that the team would miss him that much . The Broncos should not do anything , but get the best defensive lineman for him and move on.

  • http://ttmt.com T-Money

You also have to consider that preseason is only 2 months away. Bringing in someone that hasn’t been here can seriously mess with chemistry and it’s no easy task learning an entire play book in 8 weeks.

Personally I think the best option for the Broncos is to call his bluff, fine him, and let it play out. If he wants money out of the Broncos then he can play and earn it like the other 53 men. And when did 2 million dollars become pocket change? Did i fall asleep for the last 10 years?

  • OC Bronco

Anthony said it best until he talked about the Boldin trade and I agree with Whidbey that there is no proof he ever laid a hand on that CRAZY ASS woman.

He is just trying to get paid. And he deserves it. Yes he dropped a lot of passes but he still caught 100+ the past 2 years. Are you kidding me? The dude is sick! He makes our offense WAAAAAY more dangerous. Put a clause in his contract that if he has any suspensions the Broncos recover a portion of the guaranteed money.

Fellow Broncofans – Reserve judgement on Marshall until this plays out. The guy plays hard and you don’t replace his talent. I am also doing the same with Bowlen and McDaniels………

  • Uecker

If Marshall goes to the Bears I will be pissed. We basically traded our two best guys for a couple of turds

  • Tom9798

I agree it’s about money . . . and I knew BM would opt for the next train out of Denver just like Cutler did . . . the big money contract is not going to happen in this town at this time . . .

Asking Pat Bowlen for a trade unless you get the big money now . . . . is like telling Rumpelstiltskin that nothing has changed while you were sleeping the last decade . . .

    It falls on deaf ears . . . .

    Obviously . . . BM is in no negotiating posture . . . all the bad media . . . . teary-eyed woman with an attitude he left month’s ago wanting a ticket to the other side . . . .

Some crap about his miss-diagnosed hip . . . . his gun-slinger QB gets traded to the Bears . . . he’s not going to get the number’s this year . . . . geeeeez life is tough!

    Why not demand a trade? . . . see what shake’s out . . . . Maybe he took Jay’s advice to, “strike while the iron’s hot,” . . . .

    The only thing I truly hope . . . for my sake . . . for your sake . . . and definitely for Kerry’s sake . . . .

    McD better not trade for another Running Back! . . . lol . . . . T

Rb? lol Don’t say it, he might.

  • jcampb72

This is the first time ever that I have ever felt such a strong love hate relationship for my broncos. It makes me want to hibernate.

  • Pat

B-Marsh needs to stop beating up women. Not cool man, not cool

  • broncoNM

    kerry:
thanks for the newsflash…you dont have to sacrifice talent to get players that are smart and believe in the system. You tell me how much marshall’s “talent” will help us when he gets an 8 game suspension. These guys dont have to be boyscouts…but they do have to smart enough not to hit their girlfriend or jump infront of a taxi smacking the window….They have to be smart enough to not let their agent talk them into a hold out/trade.

    robthink:
give me a break…im not talking about 15 yrd personal fouls on the field or talking “trash”. Im talking about constant run-ins with the law that wont even allow him on the field. If character is off the grid you better inform roger goodell because next time marshall has a spat with his girlfriend he wont be on the field for awhile. I understand that these are young guys earning millions and they are not boyscouts but they gotta be smarter than marshall. He is in the news all the time because of his stupidity.

  • Andpark

Totally agree with NM, Boy Scouts is one thing and just being a moron are 2 different things. Marshall, Henry, Clarett are all morons. We can all agree Pollomalu is one of the most aggressive players in the league on the field but he doesn’t hit a chick in the face off the field. Talking shit and being aggressive on the field of course can be a positive thing we aren’t arguing we should be wimps.

I’m not saying Kerry and Rob want us to have a bunch of criminals but I think the team does not need any more complete idiots on it either.

That being said the loss of Marshall would be huge, remember the Giants without Plax? Just being the threat opens up and elongates the field for Royal and Moreno. If we do trade him we will still need a series #1 to fill the void. OC get on writing up that contact!

  • DenverLoyalist

Marshall leaving will define the true position of the Bronco organization, and as a Denver born dc raised and all denver teams fan, I won’t be ill-felt from the trade as much as the Cutler trade, where I feel Cutler shamed his way out of Broncos organization. However, this tough and highly qualified receiver has more credibility than the ‘marshmallow’ that folx will choose to label Brandon Marshall as. Clearly this is the definite and functioning sign of a dudd in the head offices of the Bronco organization, and ownership is in great questions if Marshall is not fought for to be on the team roster.
Yet, I refuse to relinquish loyalty to Broncos and Nuggets, I will ultimately always have aspirations for official labeling of dynasty franchise in footbal, and soon basketball.

  • kerry

i hate posting this because Florio is such a jackhole moron, but here is another thing on Marshall.:

What is going on in Denver? This team, which is famous for being run so well, is an absolute mess. I’m SO glad that the Bengals play them week 1 in Cincy. All but a guaranteed W for the Bengals.

Hey why not? They traded away a franchise QB ! Why not a Top WR? Go Denver! LOLOLOLOL. They laugh at my Raiders? Go figure.

I have to admit as a Pats fan I wish JM the best but I have no idea what he’s doing.
How in the world do you trade the top two guys on your team?

How the hell isn’t this McD, X, and Bowlen’s fault? No one wants to play for this guy. This team is becoming an embarrassment. Our two best players plus our first round pick. Amazing.

East, don’t say anything about DJ or Champ being our best players. Champs 4 years past his prime. And DJ, please…guy averages less than 100 tackles 1.3 sacks and .4 ints a year. He’s a good role player but nowhere close to a franchise LB.

  • kerry

    Craig:

yeah as much as i hate to admit it, this team has become a laughingstock. its absolutely true. its bad when Bengals fans laugh at us. ugh.

oh and i agree that DJ is not a franchise LB. he is a great ATHLETE, but not a great FOOTBALL PLAYER. sorry East. wanna go Cheese? HAHA.

  • roshon2411

I don’t understand why they don’t pay him. We already paying Shannahan millions to stay at home because he couldn’t produce but BM’s produces but he’s not a role model. Cutler was a good role model in Denver but wasn’t a team player. Anyone else confused? Might be more talent on the Colorado Crush if this deal goes down.

Pat Bowlen is starting to join the ranks of William Clay Ford and Mike Brown.

And I have a feeling McDaniels will be in the same conversation as Cam Cameron and Bobby Petrino after this year.

  • Jon Krause`

oh no no no cutler all over again:

“”Yes there was a meeting between Brandon, and Mr. [Pat] Bowlen. There was a request for a trade. Mr. Bowlen has said that ownership will do everything in it’s power to accommodate his wishes,” McGuire said.”" -nfl.com [McGuire is Marshall's agent]

  • NathanH47

Roshon, they will pay him. This is just how hold outs go. See: Every hold out ever year.

Look at Anquan Boldin, he’s asked for a trade like 2 years ago and made a big fuss, but he hasn’t gotten traded and hasn’t gotten a raise, and he’s still played well.

If we don’t get a great offer for him this summer, he’ll play this season, and if he’s still unhappy at the end of the year, we put the franchise tag on him and trade him then. Or he plays, we tag him and work out the contract than. It’s what happens, people are just overreacting here because we’ve had a rough summer.

  • jcampb72

I’m 60 he gets traded 40 he stays.

  • roshon2411

    NathanH47,

Same could of been said about Cutler. If he would have got a new contract he would still be a Bronco. Marshall’s gone… McDaniels wants to have his own team. I’m sure, other Shanny holdovers will follow, Champ, D-Will.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

See you in camp Mr. Marshall-

    http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_12601175

  • jcampb72

Ian- I’m not convinced that means anything. All I read was a bunch of meaningless shiat.

  • kerry

hey Ian, remember that article that said the Broncos are gonna continue to “talk” to Cutler and that Cutler is their “QB” how did that turn out by the way? i dont believe a single word this two faced hack McDaniels says.
