UPDATE: Be sure to take the poll!

In spirit of the NBA playoffs I offer a quick question for all of those Denver sports fans… who is the real number fifteen? Will we rely on Brandon Marshall or Carmelo Anthony? The debate is up to you all. Is it the kid for central Florida or the kid from Brooklyn? Both of these players have made Denver their home, but who deserves fifteen the most? This is a short post, but it’ll be interesting to hear what you faithful Denver fans believe.

Who's more worthy to represent #15 for Denver?

I’ll go with Carmelo,he has stayed out of trouble for the most part and he has taken his team farther into the playoffs.

  • DHB

I think they can share it just fine. The edge is to Melo, just because there are fewer players in basketball, and he is involved nearly every minute of the game. Marshall for about 10 or 15 plays.

If the nuggs get to the finals and/or win the championship, 15 is all Melo.

Side note, while Elway is the only true 7 in Denver, Billups has done the number proud. If you have not read it, here is the OTL write up on him. I’m very biased, as a Denver kid myself, but it’s nice to see this attitude and true charity from a pro-player regardless of the sport.

god….now we’re really reaching for shit to talk about. If you’re talking reliability then you have to go with Melo, just based on qty of off-field incidents that could affect that team status during a season. I’m not from Denver so maybe my opinion doesn’t really hold any merit but I do know one thing, whether if its on the court or the field, if I see BM coming at me I’m getting out of the way. The guy is a monster.

    B. Marsh, I am a Magic fan. (I live in Central Florida) Moved from Colorado in 1988.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

    Stav,

It’s so true. I’m trying to keep everyone entertain with tidbits here and there while I work on the bigger posts.

    DHB,

Billups is nasty, plain and simple. You make a good point on how he does the number seven proud. Last night I kept on yelling out “LET’S GO CHAUNCEY!” and my girlfriend again and again tried to quiet me because it was all Laker fans at the bar.

  • http://broncotalk.net RVG10

I say Melo. He is an offensive juggernaut and a monster on defense. BMarsh is just an offensive “beast”. I want to see what Marshall could do on defense!

  • Stav

No knock on you Easty, I’m just saying. Its literally a drought. The only thing I have going is my NYY’s have won 9 in a row (NJ boy here).

  • MN Broncos Fan

here is what I want to know. Has the Brandon Marshall thing really been sweapt under the rug?? Or should we expect to see another suspension? What is the latest.

On the debate, I agree with Joe – I would love to say Marsh is the #15 in Denver but Melo has kept his nose clean and led his team to the playoffs….

  • robtink242

i love the broncos and i’m a laker fan. i’d say melo. Melo has serious game. but ask this question after this season of football. cause if point gaurd= QB and melo = bmarsh. its unfair beacause melo has a better “QB”.

  • kerry

Carmello is the only true 15 in Denver. Marshall hasnt even gotten to the playoffs, let alone 5 straight seasons. and Melo has a national championship ring and a gold medal. Mello has the winning hardware whereas the only hardware Marshall keeps wearing is handcuffs.

  • DC

It’s simple numbers, as far as productivity and need by the team. There are 5 players on the nuggs at any one time so 20% of the team is made up of mello oppossed to 11 on the broncos which means marshall represents 9% of the team. They play about the same amount of time. Even though a human factor must be added I still think mello dominates and without mello we would be in trouble. Without brandon we had our biggest blowout of the season last year, even though it was against the raiders.

  • Jon K.

    de BEAST!! is #15
    marsh

  • (stuck in) raiderland

Marshall is the only #15 I give a rats ass about. I didn’t live in Denver long enough to learn to care about the Nuggets.
You guys think this is desperate? We’ve got a long ride ahead ’til August, ladies and gents. Trust me. When we’re debating whether our horse mascot would beat the Colts’ horse mascot in a tug-of-war, you’ll long for the days we were posting about this crap. Like all good addicts, we’ll go there… we say we won’t, but we will. Oh, we will. And we’ll like it.
East, thanks for blowing smoke up my ass. I’ll be dropping off the radar here for two weeks, though– vacation, no internet in sight. But I’ll be seriously jonesing when I get back.
I think an off-season Haiku contest or two would be great, incidentally. Haikus about Bronco withdrawal? Here’s an attempt:

    Thought I missed Elway
    Now any Bronco would do
    Even Jay Cutler!

  • http://broncotalk.net Kyle

This is an awesome idea for a post! What’s up with all the haters?!

Adding a sidebar poll, I’ve got Nuggets fever! (And I would go with Melo, he’s finally on the big stage and he’s showing he is truly one of the NBA’s premiere and most underrated players).

  • http://myspace Anthony S.

Carmelo kicks ass on the court, and Marshal klicks ass on the felid.
both of them are not doin anythin wrong to question their abilities on whether whoes more worthy to wear number 15…
i think they both have enouph right to respresent #15.
both playing for denver, and both kick ass at it!!

  • KMA

Come on!!!!! have we all forgotten about Jim Turner????? #15, hello??? WTF???
    :)
I’m With Melo, he took a step to the next level last night with the way HE took over. Go Nuggets!!!

  • http://mrherculesrockefeller.blogspot.com herc rock

Reaching like Al Davis on draft day, here.

It’s ‘Melo. And It’s not even close.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

Definitley ‘Melo. He actually takes his team into the playoffs, and shows that he is a true leader and a great player. He is not getting arrested all the time. And did I forget to mention that he takes his team to the playoffs? Not to mention a shot at the CHAMPIONSHIP?…

And for a side note, you guys can say all you want, but I still am a Jay Cutler fan. And I watched a video on his first practice with the Chicago Bears. And to speak the truth, I really do hate McDaniel’s for doing that. We had our quarterback spot sucured for a decade. But no, he comes in as a bran-new head coach, and trades away our best offensive player. Watching him practice with the Bears sucked. Knowing that our quarterback situation sucks ass, sucks. And I have talked a to a lot of Bears fans, and every single one of them point out that they could have done so much better on offense if Orton had not overthrown a wide-open WR.

Anyways, I’m just glad to see that at least one Denver team knows what it feels like to be winners. I am still a hardcore Bronco fan. GO BRONCOS!!! GO NUGGETS!!!

  • (stuck in) raiderland

Kyle– we can all acknowledge that it’s a bit desperate to be talking about this AND still enjoy it anyway. Nobody’s hating on East for the post– it’s as good idea as any in the dead of the off-season, sure. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and this one is desperate– but good enough for me.

  • (stuck in) raiderland

P.S.– Just wait until I start posting about soccer (my other love). That’s when you’ll know it’s time to cut me off.

  • (stuck in) raiderland

Incidentally, why is no one mentioning #15 Jacob Peterson, striker for the Colorado Rapids?

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

Soccer? Wait… there’s actually a professional league in america?

  • dmvegasbronco

East, boy talk about a Bronco gap. QB/Passing camp next Tuesday but nothing til 12-15. We are hungary for new from our NEW Broncos and only have speculation to lean on. OK OK

Brandon has Pro Bowl, two very nice seasons, and some off field issues. Carmelo has Gold Medal, All Star, and some off field issues.
You have to go Carmelo with the hope that Brandon helps Broncos to winning 2009 season.

  • (stuck in) raiderland

East! How dare you, sir! How.. dare… you!

  • stav

Soccer…… much like the NHL, a continental United States minor league sport.

  • robtink242

hey in all fairness start from melo’s first 3 seasons and bmarsh first 3. then it would be marshall hands down

  • http://myspace.com/paraleipsis jchase8410

As a Broncos fan, and a Lakers fan…I have to say as of right now, the edge goes to Melo. He plays amazing offense, much like Marshall, but his Defense won game 2 for the Nuggs. Kobe 2 for 6 when guarded by Melo

  • Brian

Got to go with Brandon on this one. Melo has demonstrated that he has the ability to be a difference maker however any one who stands in Brandon’s way gets bit%% slapped, just ask his girlfriend. Bad joke but has there been any word as far as Marshall’s punishment. This is very news worthy and it’d be nice to know whats happening with this situation.
