According to ESPN’s Bill Williamson, Jay Cutler is so angry at Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders that he wants out of Denver. The trade talks have allegedly ruined his trust in them. Personally, I’m highly disappointed in Jay Cutler, this is not the action of a team leader. Only hours after the trade talk craze and he wants out just like that.

“The relationship has been tarnished,” the source said. “I think it’s beyond repair.

“It’s like a knife to Jay’s heart,” the source said. “It will be hard for him to get past this.”

McDaniels certainly has his hands full with this one. This is certainly a disappointing day for all Denver fans. Could Jay Cutler really don another jersey in 2009? It’s highly unlikely due to the lack of quality QBs available. In an attempt to put any more personal bias out of this story I’ll just leave the link to his article.

waiting on an adam schefter report

  • http://merlinofchaos.livejournal.com E. Halsey Miles

In years of watching football, one thing I’ve learned.

When different reporters say different things, Schefter is 99.99% of the time closest to the truth. I don’t know what the guy does to get his information, but he is plugged in and he knows everyone and everyone trusts him. Everyone else hears something and makes stuff up as they go, and it seems like it almost always pans out this way.

As usual, I am going to reserve judgment on this situation until the sparks quit flying, but initially I will believe Schefter until someone’s actions prove otherwise.

  • http://merlinofchaos.livejournal.com E. Halsey Miles

If Cutler is not traded, and he stays with the Broncos, can his situation be mended? Cutler took a long pause before answering.

“Anything can be mended,” he said. “I’ll always play with the guys we’ve got. I love playing for those guys. Obviously, Josh and I’s relationship has taken a few steps backward. I don’t play for the coaches anyway, I play for teammates. As long as we keep the guys we’ve got I’ll go out there and play. I love those guys.”

    From a denver post article.

  • champ2203

Everyone keeps saying don’t buy into the media, and it’s not that big a deal, because the trade didn’t go through with Cassel and Cutler is still in Denver. Well to everyone that said those things what do you think now? I’m so pissed off right now and I’m sure I’m not the only broncos fan that is. Cutlers not the only one who lost confidence in Josh McDICKnals. Don’t be dissapointed in Jay for being angry about this. He has every right to be.

  • CJ

I agree cbs4 and many other sites said Brian Dawkins had a 2 year deal and all this stuff i think there just causing drama. I believe Josh Mcdanials is smart enough to talk this all over with Jay and tell him teams contacted them looking for the trade just like schefter said. I wont believe that jay wants out untill schefter says so.

  • kerry

McDaniels should be fired tonight!! Bowlen go have him pack his desk and hand the reigns over to Nolan or Dennison. this hack has already screwed up this franchise. go read the Denver post article everybody. MCDaniels was trying to do the Cassel deal without infoming Cutler or his agent Bus Cook. Mcdaniels was trying to do some sneaky behind the scenes stuff that Xanders wasnt aware of. McDaniels you already have torched the bridge with you and Cutler. go to KC with your little lover Cassel and you daddy Pioli. stupid New England hack!!

  • Jon Krause

    no no no NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

  • steve

huge mistake mcdaniels!! wtf were you thinking, shopping around our best player for a glorified backup. Ridiculous. Cutler is the truth and the future of this team. McD should publicly apologize for shopping cut around, and also explicitly say that now way he will be traded.

Our entire team and system is built around jay cutler, and should center around him for a long time. No coach or other player is as important to this team.

  • BroncosTrevizo

Yes please! Jay Cutler are suck! He not good player…

  • http://broncomadness.com Garrett Barnes

Now none of this would have happened had we kept Shanahan. But I am not going to go into that or else kerry might have a breakdown. This was the biggest mistake McD could have ever made and I am really pissed off at him. I think we give Rick Dennison the reigns and fire McD now. Oh and hire back Jeremy Bates to bribe Cutler to stay. I can’t believe I am already done with McD. But that is how it goes.

  • Patrick

Oh my gosh this is horrible if Mcdaniels shops around for Cutler. Cutler is the future face of this franchise and if we get rid off team this team is gonna go down the drain.

  • http://broncomadness.com Garrett Barnes

BroncosTrervizo, what are you smoking as u write that?

  • http://broncomadness.com Garrett Barnes

oh and kerry just out of curiosity who would u rather have right now, McD or Shanahan???

  • kerry

wow. i reported this very story over an hour ago on this site and all of you told me to calm down and that i was crazy and i was wrong and not speaking in reality. WELL WHO IS RIGHT NOW!!!!!! HUH??!!

  • Roy

I love how everyone starts screaming without reading an article, or taking the time to digest what they’ve read. I am sure that lots of teams get offers for lots of their players. Everyone has a price, and other teams are going to search for it, especially if they covet the player. The current regime has already said they do nt want to trade him, how much more do people want? Keep in mind, many of the people bitching about this are the same ones that consistantly cursed Cutler after our late season losses. No one can please these people. It is so damn funny reading all of this…

  • kerry

    Garrett:

i knew somebody would ask me that eventually. and right now i dont want either. id rather that Dennison was promoted. lol. i dont even wanna think about this. im tired of all this non sense from this team. Shanahan cant build a defense, McDaniels is a snake and tried to trade the franchise QB without telling anyone. Bowlen is probably too drunk to intervene.

  • http://brocotalk.net (dee)

I think they need to have a press conference and have all the parties kiss and make up … Shanahan would not have let any of this garbage leak into the media. McD will learn .. Cutler needs to suck it up and he does have the option to leave at the end of his contract … But we need to have a press conference .. oh and by the way this is not the way the Patriots do business.

  • http://broncomadness.com Garrett Barnes

hahaha. i am with you on this one kerry. McD needs to leave now. Dennison was considered for the coaching job in first place so give him the reigns as an interim and in the meantime set our eyes out for a coach like gruden, dungy, holmgren, or cowher.

  • http://brocotalk.net (dee)

They can’t get rid of Mcdaniels, hes the reason several of the free agents have signed in Denver. Look they need to get back on the same page , I have Cutler’s PMSing … god if he wants McD to suck his **** and say sorry why not just come out and say it , instead of this other bull****. What the broncos did was look over an offer made to them and as per Schfter they refused. This will blow over, but first they need to have a press conference with all parties concerned…. the CURSE OF SHANAHAN begins …

  • http://brocotalk.net (dee)

Cbs4Denver still is saying that Denver is actively shopping Cutler, nice to know they’re on the ball with things

  • http://brocotalk.net (dee)

Is it me , or are the Denver Broncos becoming somewhat of a laughing stock ? First the San Deigo beatings …. Phillips laughing his way past us , then we get rid of the greatest coach Denver has ever had, and now this …. kinda pathetic if you ask me … I hope Shanahan coaches Dallas so I can cheer for them

  • stav

Stupid, stupid, stupid – if Denver initiated the trade talks. Mr. Bowlen, can you say “re-negotiate?”, because now you need to lock up Cutler with good old fashioned multi-million dollars within the next season to #1 “show him he’s the man” as you said, and #2 he’ll be offered quite the contract when he’s a RFA in two years if this isn’t smoothed over asap. I just can’t say how idiotic this is if Denver opened up these talks, can’t be mad if they were proposed this by another team, but this needs to be clarified. I can only agree on Schefter, what he reports is 9 out of 10 times the real story. McD can’t be sooooo stupid to actually believe Cassel is better than Cutler? My wife hates football but is forced to watch Denver games and she was even shocked by this saying why would they even think to do something like this…..guys, my wife knows NOTHING about football and she even thought this was ridiculous if the Broncos actually initiated. Please Footballs Gods in Heaven, please let Schefter be right and that we are not the Donkeys that every Raider and Charger fans calls, please let the only team I’ve rooted, died, and celebrated with not be soooo moronic to try and make such a move. If Denver did initiate, which means McMoron wanted this, then this is true Belichek pedigree – arrogance at its best, without a running game the offense was #2 I believe? Why would we want to break up that chemistry? And please no one bring up the punk/immature Cutler talk, old #7 was quite the punk too when he first showed up.

  • CJ

All of you guys need to watch the video on cbs4 website it made me feel alot better that jay can forgive mcd

  • Anthony33

I am as pissed off as anyone, but starting to calm down and take a wait and see attitude until all the dust settles and the truth comes out. Look at the rants and confusion this moring surrounding Dawkins because some numskull reporter jumped the gun.

I am really hoping it was the Broncos who were contacted and not McD going behind the back of the entire organization. If so, like I stated in the previous string, he should be fired tonight and replaced by Nolan. Dennison is very capable with the offense and perhaps we could lure Bates back from So Cal.

This is FUBR if McD did what is being reported.

Come on Adam, give us the real skinny.

  • http://brocotalk.net (dee)

Maybe Jay will use this as motivation? Maybe this is the kick in the ass he needs ? … I hope so … he can be a little prick sometimes .. NO ONE IS BIGGER THAN THE DENVER BRONCOS! Not MCD or Cutler …. BOWLEN will handle this

  • NathanH

I’m hoping so dee. And I do agree that Bowlen will handle it.

Cutler better not being going anywhere.

  • champ2203

comment number 3 shows a quote from Cutler saying about the relationship being mended. click the link he provided and read the last thing cutler says. Not good. They f”d with him and other players on the team don’t like it either. They best fix this now or we’re going to be watching our back-up QB from last year starting. Who was that again? no not ramsey whose a free agent and got hurt. Who was it again? Oh thats right no one has a clue who it was. I dare anyone to be able to name him without doing some research. There is no one else. Get Jay’s mind right and clear this all up.

  • DepressedSF

It hasn’t been said enough… WTF is McDaniels thinking? He’s 32 years old, he gets his first head coaching job, and the first thing he does is piss off the entire fan base.

  • Bronco Buster

I can only laugh that the new coach hasn’t had this team on the field yet and already he could have screwed this town over. What happened to having Cutler be the next big thing in Denver. And what the heck is going on picking up two lame runnings backs when “the coach” wants more to do with defense. Derrick Ward, sure, if we can get him at a good price. But a guy with bad knees and another that was third on the depth chart in Arizona. Good luck to a football team that won’t hit 8-8 next year at least. Bet you all are wishing Shanny was still here now. Suckers.

  • AHNOLD

CHECK OUT THE CBS4 WEBSITE. THEY WERE NOT EXAGGERATING. CUTLER SAYS SO HIMSELF.

  • NathanH

This isnt even McDaniels doing. Lombardi opened up a bs can of worms, Jay heard about it and like any of us would, got pissed. A BS source “close” to Jay said some BS quotes, and now this thing is being blown out of proportion.

It’ll all blow over by the end of the weekend. Bowlen is to smart and involved of an owner to let this go on.

  • T-Money

    I agree with MikeY55

  • BroncoinVA9986

yes I am waiting for Adam Schefter to report…..but if this is true I do believe that their may be a meeting going on between bowlen and Xanders and Mcdaniels……not a good one…Jay Cutler is the reason we won eight games last year…we could have easily been 5-11…I thought the person they were going to shop was Champ Bailey not Jay Cutler…..

  • DepressedSF

McDaniels could be the first coach in history that all the fans want to fire before he’s even lost a single game.

It reminds me of the Iraq situation. Getting rid of Saddam was fine, but getting rid of anything and everything associated with Saddam is what screwed everything up. McD’s removing all evidence of the previous regime could end in disaster.

  • http://myspace.com/paraleipsis jchase8410

Darryl hackney was the 3rd string QB behind Ramsey….never challenge me! I think this will blow over, but I’m still pissed that this happened…inexperience at it’s finest

  • CJ

absolutely shop champ around Cutler threw for over 4500 yards! MORE THAN ELWAY HAS EVER DONE! do you think denver should trade a guy in the same sentence as elway. If we dont see mcd tomorow kissing some serious ass! then he is dumb.

  • http://www.dbaumgartner.com daveb

Cutler needs to GROW UP…I love his potential, but he is such a baby. How about being a leader instead of a whiner? This probably hasn’t been handled well by either side of the situation, but Cutler is paid big money to lead this team (on and off the field) and I have yet to see that happen. Maybe we should let him go.

  • BroncoinVA9986

CJ has a very very good point
more yards in one season than elway ever had……I bet you McDaniels would trade him

  • Craig

Anybody can offer trades to the Broncos, just because they entertained the trade does not mean they were trying to trade him.

  • T-Money

    daveb-

“Cutler needs to GROW UP…Cutler is paid big money to lead this team (on and off the field)”

you mean the team that almost just stabbed him in the back right? Or the team that, for whatever reason, threw his name out there for a trade even though he’s your 4th year QB, and turning into the face of the franchise?

That wouldn’t piss you off at all? That wouldn’t make you feel like you mean nothing to the team? That you are being replaced by a lesser quality?

He has every right to be hurt, angry, and annoyed. To me it seemed like he sounded betrayed and shell shocked but accepting that if that’s the team wanted to go the “so be it”.

    That’s anything but immaturity.

  • denverfanfromdetroit

fire mcdaniels jay cutler is the second coming of john and he has the ordasity to disrespect him for matt idiot cassel! someone explain why shanahan is not the coach this is proof that mcdaniels hasn’t a clue on how to evaluate talent or people. I blead blue and orange and if cutler is traded you trade me as a fan, on a day i which we get brian dawkins that is being over shadowed by something this dum bowlen you are directly resposible for every stupid thing this new coach does. You need to pay close attention to the sneeky underhandedness.

  • http://www.dbaumgartner.com daveb

    T-Money

Stabbed hi in the back by doing what…their jobs?!? They didn’t trade him, but everyone (including him) acts like they did.

And it would piss me off but I would act like a grown up about it instead of pissing and moaning all over the media. Pick up a phone and call someone instead of acting like a 4 year old. He wasn’t traded but everyone acts like he was. So what if they talked about a trade.

That’s not anything BUT immaturity…it is the very definition of immaturity…acting like his little feelings got hurt. My kids would react better than him.

And I own his jersy and love him being our QB. But he needs to grow up and start acting like a leader.

  • shanarat

You guys are all acting like they wanted to trade Elway. I’m dying over here.

  • Broncoholic

Everyone needs to calm down on this one. Out of all that I’ve read here’s a quote that makes the most sense of this story:

“This story isn’t going to die anytime soon though no one seems to mention that the other two teams that would have been involved in a 3-team deal – New England and Tampa – would have jumped at the details as we know them.

Tampa would have taken Cutler in a heartbeat and New England ended up getting only a 2nd rounder for Cassel. Why turn down the #19 pick? Or the #12 pick?

It doesn’t make sense. The only team that would have said no was the Broncos, and they did. Did they answer the phone? Sure. Did it go any further? Not a chance.

Oh, one more thing, the “source close to the Broncos” that keeps informing the “Broncos Insiders” at the various news outlets needs to seriously shut the hell up!”

Source: Guru at Mile High Report.
    http://www.milehighreport.com/2009/2/28/776038/free-agency-open-thread-la

  • shanarat

McCoach is gonna help up win more than 8 games this year. If that takes trading Cutler, I’m all for it.

  • HottNikks

Hey Garrett- Shanahan sucked butt and his firing was long over due…it wasn’t Shanahan that won those two super bowls it was Elway…look at what Shanahan did after Elway-jack shit! And Dennison is nothing more than a dingle berry hangin from Shanny’s ass!

  • dr.gonzo

It’s ok everyone! Kurt Warner is still a free agent. problem solved hahahahhaah

  • shanarat

I mean, we lost to the Raiders last year and if it wasn’t for that whole field goal thing we would be 1-3 in the last two years against them. Something has got to happen.

  • CJ

I no were over reacting but when guys say they personally would rather find another qb that makes absolutely no sense because there isnt anybody you could possibly find in the draft or in the league that is better and if you did the franchise wouldnt trade them to denver. It makes complete sense to keep Jay. Why would you get rid of a pro bowler with a bright future for the risk of the #1 Pick or what ever detroit was going to deal being a bust wich is greater possibility than cutler going on to 9 more pro bowls and who nos how many super bowl victories.

  • dbroncos

I will be extremely pissed if we trade him and dont get a crap load of draft picks and player in exchange. Obviously no one is “untradeable” but Cutler is as close to that as you get i think.

  • shanarat

you guys do know that fan is short for fanatic. Don’t let your emotions rule your opinions. I like logic.

  • olen

Well friends it is a good bet that when a certain former coach returns to coaching a team there will be an opening for Cutler . Now think about that.

  • shanarat

    out

  • rcsodak

    Laughable.
Kerry, have you even read any of the articles? Where the FO explains what happened? Where X say Cutler is NOT on the trading block?
Good grief! Refrickinlax! You sounding like a 10yr old having a tantrum!

  • Craig P

I don’t get the overreaction here — both Cutler’s and a lot of fans. So Tampa Bay and another team called up the Broncos to propose a trade involving Cutler. Did the Broncos initiate it? NO. Did they follow through on it? No. I love Jay Cutler and think he’s enormously talented but he needs to develop a thicker skin because these kinds of rumors and trade proposals happen every year.

Regardless, though, I hope he and McDaniels can sit and talk about this and get back on the same page because this is not a good way to spend the off season.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

We can OFFICIALLY kill this, I have from TWO people that I know inside the Denver Broncos that everything is cool with Jay Cutler and no, no one was ever, “Actively shopping,” Cutler. There were requests, but nothing ever taken into consideration.

So there you have it my loves, take it from the kid that was there when Adam Shefter was learning how to sign-off =) And was simply working for the lowly Denver Post.

  • DB

Mark my words…this is all a bunch of BS and Cutler, as Denver’s franchise quarterback, will stay in Denver. McDaniels never intended to trade Cutler. He’s a Pro bowl QB that has proven himself in the league to be one of the top QB’s of his era.

If Cutler has his little feelings hurt like a little girl over a proposed trade, then the Bronc’s should get rid of him. What kind of leadership is Cutler showing right now to his team?

  • http://horviltiki.com Horvil Tiki

hey guy I beleef the xanderd the mcdanels when they say they just listen. The cbsdenver vic lombardo seem like he is foul. or he quick to makey real bad informatonal. He say the bronco active shopped. he say they still try to trade the custper. I think this guy seem foul cause some one is not right guy.

  • http://merlinofchaos.livejournal.com E. Halsey Miles

Ian: Thanks. I kind of figured it was a bunch of BS. I bet Bill Williamson got some wind of it and went “SCOOP!” and wrote that story and everyone else had to react.

  • http://broncotalk.net Joe

    Ian-

So Cutler and McD are on the same paige now? And all this is over with and everything can go back to normal?

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

Gee. I go to bed watching videos of Dawkins destroying Terrel Owens, Flattening a Falcon and performing an Angle-Slam on some Redskin. And I wake up to this.

My take, for what its worth is that this is inexperience. Would a seasoned GM and Head Coach have “entertained” the idea? They’d have hung the phone up with a polite no, once they’d stop laughing. But they caught a GM who had probably never taken a call like that before. My bet is, if they could do yesterday again – it would be 100% different.

Is this as bad as Dan Reeves drafting Tommy Maddox?

And one more thing. Anyone but the Bucs, can’t stand the thought of the Glazer’s getting what they want.

  • orangealways

This is a HUGE sign of what complete morons are now in charge. Nice pick Pat, seems the little genius is an absolute ass! Trade Cutler???…for Casell???!!!!! Are you f’n joking? I wouldnt want to be you Pat, you’ve been a great and loyal owner, but this is your waterloo bro, Jay stays, the NE dipstick goes. Make it so, or lose us!

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

And one more thing. Prof X HAD to discuss this with McD. That is what happens when you have a 50:50 partnership with neither of them being more senior. X did not have the authority to give a blanket no. He had to take it to McD (or the other way around). I don’t think this will be the last time something like this happens.

  • Jpweave

    Note to Jay Cutler:

Quit being a pussy it was just business! Go get out on the practice field or in the film room and learn McDaniel’s system and be yourself. Prove yourself, win games, make the pro bowl again, and win in the playoffs and big games.

  • http://www.saintroccokennels.com Steve W

McDaniels made a point of emphasis: “We don’t want to trade Jay. We never did. He’s our quarterback. We’re excited about this season. And excited about what we’re doing here in free agency to improve our team.”

What part of this statement does the media and Jay Cutler not understand. The media is just trying to stir controversy and our young QB took the hook instead of getting his facts straight.

  • Vince_Marine

I agree, the Broncos never WANTED to trade Cutler. All they did was listen, hell who wouldn’t. Detroit is still floating that 1st pick in the draft to us for Culter, who wouldn’t listen to that? What I like from the front office is that they are trying to improve this team and get us back to the Superbowl at all costs. If that means Jay getting traded then so be it. This is a TEAM effort, not the Jay Cutler show. Sack up Jay and get ready for an awesome season!!!

  • Scott

Alot of opions from Denver fans who care. I love it. We are passionate about this team, and I think this is great. That said, Keep your panty’s on people. Use a level head on this one. Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders are smarter than this. I really think that teams like Tampa and Detroit were testing a brand new staff to see if they could pull this off. Why not? Heck, our coach and GM are still in their 30′s. Obviously, they decided to keep Jay and would not shop him. The key word in all the “trade talk language” is entertained. That’s all they did was entertain the offer. ONLY LISTEN TO ADAM SCHEFTER. He was the first to break this, and then all hell broke loose. The guy’s that lit the fire on the situation with all the misinformation and drama were Lombardi and Williamson. These guys want to be the next big thing and will do whatever it takes to make the biggest impact on their own careers. There is a reason Adam Schefter is one of the best in the business for accuracy and fact.

It also does not help that Jay is not showing his poker face and putting this thing to rest. All he had to say was “Trade rumors happen all the time, if I hear something concrete from Bus Cook or Brain Xanders, I will respond at that time.”

Jay needs to learn to keep his feelings in-check and not fly off the handle. Keep in mind, no other player is on the books with a quote, only Cutler.

  • Vince_Marine

    Williamson is a tool!!!

  • stav

Williamson passing around misinformation without any real backup? Nah, that never happens!! He figures that since he’s part of ESPN he better blow up with some crazy scoops, but he’s only riding Schefter’s coat tails. I can only agree, what Schefter says is what I always go by.

  • stav

The only story to go by, if this is true, which is most likely since he broke it, than Cutler needs to calm down and Bowlen/Xanders need to come out and confirm this:

    http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/28/cutler-upset-over-potential-deals-to-detroit-tampa-bay/

  • Colorancher

I agree, somebody needs to let the fans know what the truth is before we lose respect for Mcdaniels and others. You don’t trade a Pro Bowl quarterback. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dakota fan

Man, this seemingly is getting out of control. If McD, Xanders, Bowlen and Cutler don’t settle this thing soon, it’s really going to get ugly.

But since free agency opened, I’ve learned a very valuable lesson about the media: pick a select few trustworthy sources and take all of the other garbage with a grain of salt. I know you all have your favorite football sources on the web, but some of the garbage that’s out there looks like TMZ trying to report on a national security briefing.

Looks like Denver is succumbing to the nature of the NFL these days: pamper and tiptoe around the pouting superstar while he runs his mouth and ruins his own stock to the rest of the NFL. He may be a damn good quarterback, but someone needs to tell Cutler to shut his mouth and play football.

  • Ocrush

okay sure it all seems like water under the bridge, but when its time for cutler to sign his extention or marshall to resign do you really think they wont be thinking about this and decide to just go for the money…This is a trust or lack of trust isssue that never goes away.. Now we know why Shanny was running the show there becasue no one sems to have a clue…

  • Nonya Binness

Someone tell McDaniels that Denver doesn’t want to be the ‘back-up gang’ from New England. Don’t get me wrong. The franchise needed some changes (that’s why McDaniels was hired), but the #2 offense from last year shouldn’t be his first pet project.

If Cutler’s traded, I’m ebaying my season tickets till this jerk’s fired.

  • T-Money

Poor Dawkins. We get he to sing a huge deal and it gets overshadowed by this shit. WELCOME TO DENVER.

  • T-money22

If the story about them trying to trade Cutler is true I can’t understand what they are trying to do. Cutler is a fan favorite and one of our best players. This gets the new coaching staff off to a rough start and just looks stupid. They should be focused on fixing our horrible defense instead. The offense is good and will only get better with Cutler leading it, but the defense is one of the worst in the league. The only thing the organization ever tries to do to fix the defense is sign mediocre players who are years past their prime and we’ve seen how that has worked out.

  • http://laprit@lycos.com AtomicLeo

I don’t get this! Trade a Pro-Bowl QB AND your first round pick. WTF? I would make more sense to me if we landed multiple 1st round picks either this year or next year, but givng away one of your best players and losing picks this year make no sense!

  • kerry

until a press conference is called and Bowlen drags his drunk out and squashes this Bullshit, then there isnt anything that says everything is “COOL” with Cutler and the Broncos. im tired of all these supposed “inside sources” everybody keeps “claiming” that they have. if McDaniels and Xanders wanna keep their jobs they better end all this right now. if Bowlen wants his wallet to stay fat he better end all this shit immediately. this is a disaster of epic proportions. if this was Elway’s job on the line Bowlen would swoop in and stop all this from happening.

  • Tony

I’d to start by saying this is the first time I’ve ever posted a message on a blog. However, the idea that we tried to trade Jay Cutler for Matt Cassel is so concerning I felt compelled to speak out. I’m genuinely struggling to understand how at this moment we could consider trading Jay Cutler for Matt Cassel. As of right now, at best Matt Cassel is a 1yr wonder. Can you say Scott Mitchell, AJ Feely, or Derek Anderson, among many other names? All guys that had one great season filling in for an injured starter only to sign bigger contracts and never return to the same level of play. Granted you could counter w/ Kurt Warner and Tom Brady, but there are many more Scott Mitchell’s than Tom Brady’s. Not too mention as of last month Quarterback was a position we thought we were set at for the next 10yrs w/ a young, strong armed, sometimes judgment challenged quarterback. What changed?

As a life-long Bronco fan it seems our new leadership is off to a shaky start by displaying questionable judgment as evidence by this dust up and the recent free agent signings. Hopefully, it all works out????

  • Angry Bronco girl

McDaniels is getting off to a great start. Cutler is one of THE best quarterbacks in the league and the first breath of hope since Elway retired. Leave him alone and worry about the defense that really sucks. I never thought I’d wish for Shanahan to come back!

  • Richard

God!! The only thing thats missing from this story is the cheesy organ music to acentuate the drama and the detergent commercials between episodes. Calm down. this is just a non story, just as important to the world as what kind of candy the Elways give out at Halloween.

I just wonder how many bullsh## offers Dan Reeves fielded for a John Elway trade in the 80′s? If there was a failure in this situation, it was public relations. McD will learn from this one. And people wonder why Shanny, Reeves and othe Broncos coaches were so tight lipped with the press.

I just have this mental picture of Brian Xanders eating a cheeseburger at his desk when the phone rings. After gulping down a bite, the following conversation takes place:

    “Hello”
“Hey Brian How about trading Jay Cutler for Matt Cassell and A couple of draft choices?”
    “Just a minute”
    As he gets up and walks to McD’s newly painted office he says;
” Hey Josh, wanna trade Jay Cutler for Matt Cassell and a few draft choices?”

    “No way”
    “OK”
    Brian walks back to his office, sits down next to his cold french fries and his new happy meal prize, picks up the receiver and says;

“No thanks, but thanks for calling.”
    CLICK.

And now thanks to a few wannabe junior reporters, we have
    A STORY!!!

The Wannabes call Cutler and blindside him by asking his reation to his impending trade.

“What’? He’s heard nothing, nor has his agent. Why, because there’s
    NO STORY!!!

Cue the organ music and the soap commercials.

  • CJ

What it comes down to if josh and xanders disagree on something like TRading Cutler! They have to confront pat and we all no he will never allow this to happen. the worse thing over this whole deal is that brandon marshall and jay cutler and alot of key players contracts will be up in 1 to 2 years and josh mcdanials just pissed alot of them off. however if denver makes it deep into the play offs they wont complain over a contract

  • nv#1broncofan

All of what has happened is speculation. Nothing has come of it. We all know how things get blown out of proportion by the media. This is definately one of those things. We were not at Dove Valley so we don’t know what took place. If McD did initiate a trade, maybe it’s because Jay can’t get over the firing of Shanny. Jay needs to just suck it up and take it for what it’s worth – media propaganda – if there’s not unrest, than they will create it.

  • Richard

CJ If there is a problem, it is with Cutler talking to the press BEFORE he knew what the real story was. He’s what 25 yrs old? He hasn’t learned that these people are not his friends. He then called brandon marshall, casey weigman, etc. He should have called McD, but understand, he doesn’t know him yet! Other than one or two courtesy calls and a face to face after the pro bowl, they don’t really have a relationship yet. What we have here is a failure to communicate(Strother Martin).

  • Pete

Look, the Bucs and Lions came to us. They CAME TO US.. we didn’t come to them. Do you really think that every year the Colts don’t get a few “we’ll give you this for Manning” trade offers? Do you think the Patriots don’t as well? Of course they do. It’s part of football. If the Broncos went to a team dangling Cutler, that’s a different story, but other teams came to the Broncos, and the Broncos rejected the offers THAT SAME DAY. Holy cow Cutler, GROW UP!!! I’m the biggest Broncos fan I know, and a huge supporter of Cutler’s, but for the love of everything holy, don’t be a whining little gash over other teams wanting you. It doesn’t mean you aren’t safe her. It only means that other teams wanted you and we said no. Grow up. Manning hears the same things every year, so does Brady, it comes with being a great QB. No pull your head out of your butt and get ready for the upcoming season!

  • T-Money

    First… T-Money22, I can’t believe you copied my name.

Second… As Ian pointed out before and you people seemed to miss I’ll make it bold so it sticks out this time… it’s all over.

    Ian Henson:

We can OFFICIALLY kill this, I have from TWO people that I know inside the Denver Broncos that everything is cool with Jay Cutler and no, no one was ever, “Actively shopping,” Cutler. There were requests, but nothing ever taken into consideration.

So there you have it my loves, take it from the kid that was there when Adam Shefter was learning how to sign-off =) And was simply working for the lowly Denver Post.

  • http://broncotalk.net Ian Henson

I’m trying to find out if the Broncos are going to say anything official. I haven’t learned anything new yet. There may be nothing new to learn, I’m hoping that Josh took Jay out for breakfast this morning and they talked about the future.

  • CJ

Great T-Money Ian Henson has been known for accurate reports just as adam schefter

  • Richard

Pete I agree with the They came to us. What should also be restated is that “Neither the Bucs nor the Lions had the rights to Cassell when they called”. And nobody has said anything about New England talking to McD about a trade. God, some people.

  • blueotis2

I agree with Pete, this will be a good test of Cutler’s maturity and character. Can he get past this part of the business in the NFL and go out there and perform. Suck it up Man!

  • Paul

I was supportive of the new leadership, but to trade the new face of the team now is crazy. Cutler is a probowler with a great arm. Something this team has hasn’t had since Elway. What is Bowlen thinking. Proven QB are so hard to find. He has chemistry with Royal, Marsh and Tony. Why mess that up. Cassel had a good year throwing to moss and welker, who couldn’t play with those weapons. Look how bad Eli looked without Buress. Cutler had his year with losig how many RB to injury, he carried this team that had a terrible defense. I really hope Josh repairs this relationship.

  • http://birty.blogspot.com mikebirty

i wonder what part the pats played in this. Did they call up tampa and say, “you know if you get cassell you’ll be able to trade him to denver for a real quarterback.” just to stir the pot

  • T-Money

    CJ-

It’s more comforting to listen to than the 50 people in here beat this thing do death. Not to mention that we are all making it more dramatic then it needs to be.

  • Jason

I live in Lawrence, KS. I have no contact with anyone remotely associated with the Bronco organization. I could be an ESPN ‘source’. They will report anything to get some news. I drop by thier site now and again purely to see what RUMORS are floating, most of which they start.

ESPN = Gossip mag for sports.

  • ryan

I hate the new coach bring back mike. this dude wont make it three months.

  • Jay from the bay

i beleive thaat the best move for the broncos at this point is to bring in a proven QB like Kurt Warner, trade Cutler to Detoit for the # one pick and draft Bradford and mauluaga and move on with improving this team we dont need no babies out there.

  • CJ

    Jay from the bay-

Wow i believe Kurt warner looked good purely becuase of Larry fitzgerald Anquon Boldin Steve Breaston and Lenard Pope All pro bowlers if not potential pro bowlers. If Kurt Goes anywhere other than arizona he will not have the season he had last year. I mean all he did was throw it up and larry would dominate dbs. Jay Cutler is far from being a bust. He will be coming back to denver this year and will have many outstanding seasons to come. Thats if we dont trade him.

Bradford and mauluaga are decent i mean mauluaga has a hamstring injury from running his forty and bradford hasent really blown anybody away with his skill

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

Sam Bradford isn’t even in the draft this year.

  • Colorancher

Warner is too old. You need a young gun to build the team around. Cutler will stay. I do hope we draft Malalugaor Cushing. Studs!!

  • preytell

according to the ch4 web, they’re kissing and making-up today. Bout time !!!

  • fan

trade him to the Browns for Derek Anderson. He has a big arm and does not gripe.

  • http://BroncoTalk.net Mr.East

Linebacker isn’t really a need compared to d-line, so I hope Denver trades up for Raji or down and picks someone else up.

  • Tommy

I’m just pissed that mcd would try to trade away the center of are franchise for an unproven matt cassel. I mean cassel has started one season and was decent but nothing compared to cutler. These events have me questioning mcdaniels and what he’s going to try to do with the franchise. We don’t really need any offensive changes except for some running but mcdaniels should be trying to get some defensive changes.

  • Colorancher

Well if we go 3-4 or hybrid we stll need another good backer, as well as some d-linemen. but good point. Mr.east

  • Jay from the bay

we all agree that defense is the bedrock of a championship team and the linebackers are the heart of the D, the linebackers we have had over the past few years havent shown me squat. That’s why they need to draft the next junior seau from USC ray mauluga and start buiding that bedrock, we need guys who can tackle. and we dont need a cry baby at QB I never heard Elway crying

  • Colin

Jay Cutler is a great physical talent who has done some good things and has great potential yet. However, the facts remain that He hasn’t engineered a winning season for ANY team since High School. Plus, no matter how hard He tries, He just seems to be an insufferable ass. If He can’t shut up and stop both beating his chest and/or whining like a little girl in public, then we should trade him and get a leader on the team who appreciates getting paid ridiculous jack for playing a damn game, being a good teammate and representing the team and community well by at least not embarassing himself. SHUT UP JAY! Quit sniveling, do your part in clearing things up with the new coach like a professional, and move forward.

  • Jay from the bay

Amen, colin you hit the nail on the head this is just what i’m saying it’s a mans game played by great big strong men. who’s gonna follow a cry baby. Man up Jay you can’t lead a group of men to the promise land with tears in your eyes.
