I'll reserve judgement on the "D" until after next weekend. Those were two really good offenses we all just saw the last two weeks. Don't forget how good the defense looked against the Raiders. That game could have well been a shutout if Mike so wanted. I see both of those teams (SD & NO) making the playoffs, even with the 1-2 starts. There will be no excuse for not stopping KC though. No excuse if our offense doesn't really put it to them too. Shut them down as expected and I'd say the Broncos will be well on their way to a division title... Prediction: 34-10 Denver.

Agree with everything said, but let's not poo-poo the faiduhs. Denver caught them overconfident, game 1. Pure and simple. I guarantee the 2nd game won't be such a pushover, if Denver's D doesn't get fixed.
Hopefully, this next game against KC will allow the D a little bit of a rest, and Champ can show why he's so highly spoke of. Stop Johnson, and I could see Denver scoring "half-a-hundred" on 'em.

Why didn't we see any blitzes from the defense all game long? Brees sat back in the pocket with all day to throw the ball. We are giving up big yardage without blitzing, so what's to lose by sending a couple more guys at the quarterback.

The problem with Dumervil is that all the opponent has to do is double him to take him out of the game. And because we have no one else (right now) on the d-line who is a star, that's all opposing teams need to do.

Pass rush is DEFINITELY the issue right now.

pash rush, pash rush, pash rush, we aint got any.

broncos should really consider blitz blitz blitz and maybe more blitz.

our defense is bad but why not gamble and bring more to the pash rush? linebacker? corners? safties? i rather see our defense burn in flames than dieing a slow death. at least that will prob be more fun to watch.

Richard-

Well put, I guess the most troublesome things going into next off-season are: drafting, sure we can draft more defensive linemen- but we're still waiting for the last swarm to develop. Not really an option, so let's move onto free agency, Albert Haynesworth should be available this off-season, but with the money he's going to need... I'm not sure who Denver's going to rearrange for that one.

This whole situation is flat out disturbing. When will Dumervil's performance start to match his previous years, is Moss really a bust or simply not developed yet and will Marcus Thomas & Tim Crowder start performing at the caliber that they're expected to. On to Dewayne Robertson for a second, he's done well in my opinion, but as I pointed out during the live blog- he is the 9th highest paid player in the NFL.

We have a number of problems to work out. The first is a lack of talent on the D line. Robertson disappeared yesterday, Moss was tying but needs more reps to get it going. Crowder was inactive, and didn't show up for the Chargers game last week. Marcus Thomas seemed to play ok. Peterson was invisible, and Shaw was ?. Engleberger had the strip for Webster's fumble recovery and return, and EB had the only sack of the game.

DJ Williams was a monster and kept things from getting out of hand. Webster(only lost helmet once) played well for the most part, but is still overrunning plays. Boss was much better than last week, due to his ankle injury and lost reps in camp and the first game against Chokeland. Winborn spelled him like last week, but Boss is getting it together.

The DBs are another story. Champ is Champ. Bly is not getting it done right now. I don't know if its scheme or a learning curve with this years Defensive system. McCree played ok and I have no complaints. Manual had a particularly bad game. Paymah was still lost.

The optimist in me says that they are improving and will play better as the season progresses. The goal line stand was pretty good evidence that that is happening.

The pessimist in me says that we need MUCH more production from the Dline or there will be major changes (once again) in the offseason. Linebacking is ok for now give or take a helmet or two.
The backfield is going to require a major infusion of talent in the offseason, Corner and Safety will both need to be addressed.
We have known for months that the first part of the schedule was going to be deifficult, and it has lived up to expectations. It's still way too early to consider a super bowl appearance for this team or any other in the league. Its time to let the euphoria of the Chargers victory go. We dodged a bullet yesterday against the Saints. And even though the Chefs are so bad that they should be demoted to kitchen assistants, its time to focus on getting a W at ErrorHead.

Bottom line
If you want to preasure the quarterback, rush more than three players. This approach is not working.

Well, the succes of the Run-D is a bit cheap. We have been up by huge numbers early in games, thus forcing the offense to throw. And maybe the defense has been good against traditional runningformations, but if the offense apllys some sort of swing pass/toss/pitch to get their back to edge quickly we simply cannot make an open field tackle. This goes also for DJ.

In all else i agree - the defense is all that's keeping this team from a deep, deep playoff-run. I just hope the D pulls an "2007-Giants" or waits 'till the playoffs and go "2006-Indy"!!

Our corners are fine but our safeties and linebackers can't cover anything. Um.... why did we see Paymah on the field again this week?
