In what Mike Shanahan called more of a jog through, the Denver Broncos practiced again this afternoon. Less two-a-days and more one-and-a-half-a-days, the offense and defense even switched sides for a bit, an entertaining turnabout that saw the likes of DE Elvis Dumervil playing quarterback and RB Anthony Alridge playing cornerback.

Held out of the afternoon practice were Champ Bailey, John Lynch, Dewayne Robertson, Tom Nalen, and Ebenezer Ekuban. Other veterans that dressed but saw limited action were Brandon Stokley and Darrell Jackson.

On special teams, UDFA rookie Brett Kern stole most of the snaps from Sam Paulescu, and seemed to do quite well.

Second year defensive end Jarvis Moss said that, despite being listed as a backup on the depth chart, he feels like a starter.

“I feel like a starter. Once the season starts I play equally as much as the guy ahead of me. In this league, guys don’t play the whole game, so I work like a starter.”

Full transcripts of OT Ryan Clady, Moss, and WR Keary Colbert are after the jump.

T RYAN CLADY

On the first practice of training camp
“It’s kind of like the same thing over and over through the OTAs, so [practice] reps over and over help you get better.

“It went well. I think it’s actually a little bit easier just because for linemen [pads are] something to hold onto. It’s not a running back or anything like that. It’s a physical game in the trenches, so it’s a lot easier with pads on.”

On the last 24 hours (signing contract and first training camp practice)
“I was pretty calm until I went to sleep and then I kind of woke up like every hour checking my phone and seeing if anything went down. I was a little nervous toward the end, but it all worked out for the best.”

On what he calls his dance move he performed at the first practice during stretches
“I call it the ‘grown man.’”

On what has been his biggest adjustment as a rookie
“Just learning the plays and adjusting to the speed.”

On whether the reality of being an NFL player has ‘smacked him in the face’
“I think it did after I signed. It kind of smacked me in the face a little bit after that. It’s a job now, so you have to come out to work.”

On how important it was to sign before the first practice
“I wanted to go through install and learn all of the plays, so it was really important.”

On the most noticeable thing about the transition from college to the NFL
“Definitely the speed. Speed and how complex the offense is.”

DE JARVIS MOSS

On being injured last season
“It hurt. It’s time that I will never get back, but hopefully I can do some big things this year and forget about the injury. [The injury] is behind me anyways, the way I feel physically, so that’s really in the past.

“I feel great now. I can do everything. I still get a little sore, but I’m sure within a matter of months that should all be gone as well.”

On whether he feels like a starter
“I feel like a starter. Once the season starts I play equally as much as the guy ahead of me. In this league, guys don’t play the whole game, so I work like a starter.”

On his thoughts about T Ryan Clady
“Clady is a good dude. He is a great player. Already I think he’s a great player and he is going to contribute in a huge way this year for the team.”

WR KEARY COLBERT

On rotating with the first team in practice
“Today was the first day, so we just rotated in when the coach told us. That is how we did it during the mini camp sessions. Obviously, Brandon (Stokley) wasn’t practicing, so it was a little different, but nothing different than any other year.”

On the difference between OTA’s, mini camps, and training camp
“The fact that we are in training camp lets you know that the season is around the corner. Putting on the pads, and getting a little contact. As far as the OTA’s and mini camps, we got to know the teammates, throwing around with the guys. I was familiar in that sense, but at the same time, anytime you get to training camp, it’s mentally the start of a season, a fresh start. Everybody’s goal is obviously to get to the Super Bowl so that is what we are starting to do.”

On the wide receiver competition
“We have a lot of depth this year. A lot of people will play, and a lot of people are going to catch balls, a lot of people do different things. People are talking about competition and are hyping it up, but realistically we have all played in this league, we all know we can play. As far as that goes, we are all here trying to get better, to learn the offense. We are just trying to continue to get familiar with the offense and be ready when the games come on Sunday.”

On the teams confidence level, coming off a losing season
“Because you have a bad year, doesn’t mean you are a bad team, one year, and the next year. I think that we are in a good position, because I think this team is talented, and loaded. We brought in a good group of guys so it adds to what they already had. I think that will help us and get everybody excited for the season and the opportunity that we have with this team, and try and take it forward.”

On the chemistry of the team
“I think it’s real good because you always want to be around positive people. It’s a long season, and you have some ups and downs, and you want to make sure you are around positive people so when you face challenges you don’t go south, and keep an even head about it. That’s the type of guys we have on this team. We have a lot of older guys, guys that have played a lot of football games. You might lose a game, or have a bad game, but the goal is to get to the playoffs and once you get in the playoffs the goal is to win the Super Bowl. I think that will be our focus, and with the locker room we have I don’t think that will be a problem.”
