This is an odd move. All we've read about for weeks is how the Broncos are going after character, then there's this?! Makes me wonder what the other side of the story is? Are we desperate and thus speaking-out of both sides of our mouths, did this guy experience radical transformation, or did he get caught on a really bad day?

I am very familiar with Danny Baugher because I'm retired in the same neighborhood he grew up in, and got to see him play high school ball for three years as a starter (LB/RB/P/PK). Then he accepted the scholly to my alma matre, the UofArizona Wildcats.

I'm also familiar with the event the evening he got cut by the Patriots. I do want to clarify something about that. Namely: NO charges were brought and the entire matter was promptly dropped/dismissed. Period. No conviction/no anything resulted. The newspapers did not go back and print that of course. And, no fisticuffs broke out as they interpretted. So why should he be guilty until proven innocent?

As I have heard it, the four teams he's worked-out for since (also the Bears 9/07; Bills 01/08; Bengals 02/08) definately looked into the matter before hand. The balance on Danny Baugher's character is very much a positive.

About the "interpretted fight"...Danny is a solid 5'10"/200 pounder, even recruited as a saftey out of hs. His pops also played LB back in the day and his gene array has him over 6'1"/270 pounds plus. A side by side veiw of the two of them in our community reveals two things. One...Danny would not come out on top of a scrape with his old man; two, it is nearly laughable as they clearly are freinds (fish together etc).

Danny was a team captain in HS, a game captain along with Mike Bell for the UofA Wildcats and was elected a team captain in NFL-Europe for the Rhein Fire too. His reputation around here is very positive.

That he is competing for the job with the Broncos is to the team's favor, in my opinion. That's because (amongst other memories of high hang time, well placed punts) I watched him hold Reggie Bush to no returns for two years running against USC, while pinning them deep.

As for the knee injury that came after a helluva run of 39 yards, via Haloti Ngata/Oregon his senior year ...the fact he was wearing a brace still less than a year out influenced the punting initially in NFL. Now two years+ out (the time for full recovery) he's likely stronger than ever. The games I watched on NFL Network of him in Europe and Patriots preseason, looked strong.

I'm now a Broncos fan...again, as I was when with the Buckley Air Nat'l Gaurd in the 70's & 80's.

I'll tell you who this guy is. His foot gave us jaw-dropping moonshots many times here at the Univ. of Arizona. This guy has serious pops in his leg. If he does not win the punting job, I will be surprised.
