Great article.

I felt that we payed too steep a price to move up four slots, but my concerns were allayed a bit by hearing Shanny's rationale (stated here: http://origin.denverpost.com/extremes/ci_5776178), I felt a little better that he had a plan. I still believe he would have been available at 21. If not, trade down, and pick up Harris, who would have been a great MLB in a Broncos uni.

I live in Austin and got to watch Tim Crowder play college ball quite a bit. When I saw his name go across as the second round pick, I got very excited. Moss may be a pass rush specialist, but Crowder is more like the old school DEs: dependable, tough, and equally at home against run or pass. I hope things work out for them both, but the Broncos may get more downs out of Crowder as their all-purpose DE in this draft than Moss as a pass rusher. Time will tell.

You guys are right, the jury is still out. I think that Moss will eventually be successful but I am not sure about guys like Marcus Thomas.

i liked the moss pick. a speed rusher from the outside is a must need in the NFL these days. i questioned the moving up part but all in all a good pick. yes the guy had a poor rookie year, so what? he's a rookie. way too early to be putting the BUST tag on him. the number one overall pick mario williams had a poor rookie season and n0body called him a bust. give the rookies time. just because a guy didnt get 15 sacks his rookie year doesnt, by any means, make him a bust or anywhere near a bust. i get in arguments with my buddies alot on this subject. alot them say he has to go to the pro bowl this year or he will be considered a bust. thats not true. if moss comes in and gets a few sacks, helps improve our D-line and makes some plays then he isnt a bust. last time i checked DJ Williams hasnt been to any pro bowls but nobody considers him a bust. a first round pick can be a good player and no bust without going to a pro bowl.

DD, I completely agree with the statement that the jury is still out on Moss (and the other '07 picks). I think that '08 is going to be their make-or-break year. If Moss is held up with injury again this season, I think it's over for him in Denver. I know releasing a first round pick ain't something to take lightly, but Shanahan doesn't mess around with talent that can't get onto the field.

I truly hope that Moss and the rest of our D-line '07 picks step it up this year with our new-old defensive scheme and start to make it happen. Only time will tell.

Stud, that's a good point. I haven't seen any coverage of Moss this off-season, but I would be very interested to see what weight he's at and what the off-season conditioning program can provide him with in terms of added bulk for this year. Hopefully that can also assist him in the injury-avoidance area. :)

I thought the Moss pick was OK, not thrilled, but I understood why we got him. I did see he was starting to figure things out when he got hurt.

One positive from his injury is that he had a whole year to rehabilitate and get stronger, everywhere. He definitely needed to bulk up some to better compete with NFL tackles and to stop the run. I think that the year off gave him time to get physically where he needs to be, now we just need him to mentally catch up this year.

I really never liked Moss at all and hoped Denver wouldn't go there. After Adam Carriker was off the board at #13, I didn't think there was another DE worthy of a first round pick. IMO, Moss or Spencer was certainly not worthy of the 21st pick. With Carriker gone, I had changed my thoughts about the Defensive Line need and was then hoping they would go for MLB Paul Posluszny. When I heard the announcement that a trade with Jacksonville was just made with Denver, I thought "no way" Who could they possibly be moving up for? Several thought went through my mind, but when I heard they picked Moss, the first thought wasn't really a thought but a feeling. It had to be similar to the feeling when you commit Hari Kari and the knife plunges into you: Argh... I slumped in my chair and hung my head.

After two successful 1st rd picks (Williams & Cutler) I felt we were right back to the days of old: Character issues and question marks.

Of course when all of the 07 picks made the team, I was expecting more from all of them. We hardly noticed Moss on the field, because he wasn't a factor in any game. Then the injury came, and I already felt he was a bust. Moss has a chance to come back and prove himself this year, but I won't bet on it. I'm hoping, but you are never quite the same after a broken leg' and Jarvis needs to be much better than "the same".

I believe the character issue is more important than it ever was. Players with strong character have the desire and the grit to excell when the going gets tough. They try harder and refuse failure. These are young men with leadership abilities and strong ethics. I believe the opposite is true with players that have a history of making mistakes. "What, me worry?" attitudes don't last very long. A young man without much character or ethics, will not succeed in the NFL without rare and exceptional talent.
In my opinion, the jury is still out on the Broncos class of 2007. They still have another year to make it. Lets hope they all do.

I was full on livid when we jumped up and got him. I was fully convinced at the time that he would be there at 21, and giving up anything to jump to 17 was too much. His relative lack of production just made me angrier last year, and his trip to the ir didnt help. I understand the transitions into and out of the Bates system, but you expect a lot out of a top 20 pick. He still has a LOT to prove in my eyes in order to justify moving up to get him.

Good luck on those finals Kyle.... Glad I dont have to mess with those any more!!!

Jarvis Moss has said multiple times that the game was just beginning to slow down for him when he got injured. It's a real shame. Hopefully the game stays slow when he returns.

For the record folks, it's finals week for me. Probably my toughest ever, too (I'm told that's how college works - it always gets harder. Whatever, they really need to redesign this whole education thing). So the site is mostly in Jon, Josh, and Earl's more than capable hands this week.

Next up T-Crow!
